    FYI … the 5th gen will reportedly work as wifi extenders with eero wifi routers … 4th gen will not.

      Actually they announced that 4th gen will get that functionality as well. But still note this is only a perk if you plant to, or already have an eero mesh system.

    The 5th gen seems to have removed the 3.5mm aux line out, if that matters to people.

    Waiting for the big brother version (non dot echo). Set it up with firestick as home theatre and sound is amazing. Had it for $53 in big W last Xmas.

      better than siri but slightly worse than google assistant in my experience, although these are convenient to have around the home when you don't have your phone or you just want to use some smart home functions. I like using mine as a Bluetooth speaker (you can also just play music directly by asking it to), sounds pretty okay!

      It's just kinda handy being in a room and being able to just talk to the tech. We control lights with them and ask them quick questions about whatever. Sure your phone will do all that but it's super convenient not having to have your handset within range and still have the thing do whatever you need it to. When my wife bought one I honestly thought it was just a gimmick, but we use them pretty regularly it turns out. Handy.

          100% on board with @tens. I have a Google Home and it talks to me all the time when I'm watching TV. It mishears the trigger words so I know it's always doing its thing. Kinda creepy but also super useful.

    The kids use the echo dot 3 everyday. Alexa is fun. She tells jokes. Can sprout out random facts. Plays music (kids kick me out when I’m listening to Spotify that’s how I know). Tells what the weather will be like today and really handy to set a timer.

    I did not know this but this is very cool.

    Say, “Hey Alexa, let’s play hide and seek”
