  • Good value for a brand new general use laptop. Typically you will be spending $100-150 more for equivalent specs from other brand laptops otherwise.

Yeah, I am tempted to get one to replace my 10yo 15" and 13" laptops. I don't game on laptops… Just need it for office, web surfing and YouTube on a bigger screen when mobile.

A 2-in-1 would be better but would not be as cheap.

      • +4

I don't generally recommend 2in1 laptops unless you absolutely require a touchscreen. You typically get worse screen quality and less of a life out of the 360 degree hinges compared to regular laptops.

        • +1

          Agree.

But I need a both laptop and a tablet and getting both devices in one makes a lot of sense for me.

I don't specifically need iOS or Android for my tablet use so Windows for both functions is fine. I actually use to use Windows Phone so the tiles UI from Windows 10's start menu would have been perfect… though I can deal with the Win11 start menu.

  • I can’t believe Intel were still pumping out dual core i3s in their 10th gen chips. IMO, this would struggle with everyday tasks

    • +2

for an i3, I can see it. But I bought a Lenovo laptop with i7-7500… was also 2 cores 4 threads.

To be fair, I played the bejeezhus out of Arkham City with it, it wasn't that bad and still going strong today.

I have a i5-7500u ssd laptop, running, word , excel ,outlook, 10+ Firefox tab, 15+ pdf opening at the same time with no froze and speed is above my expectation

  • +10

Quite a slow CPU in 2022, $199 more gets you a HP laptop with a 6 core 5500u and 512GB SSD

    • You should post it as a deal.

    • If the RAM is upgradable then that is a pretty good machine

    • $199 is 40% more money, your best bet for a comparison will be used hardware.

      • +1

40% more money for over 150% increase in performance which leads to a longer lifetime before it becomes slow.

Feel free to post it yourself. There still could be a better deal this was only what I found after googling for 10 seconds.

    • I would need to research too, not a PC Nerd unfortunately.

Thank you for finding this - such a phenomenal deal from HN and really brightens my day after losing 1 hr of sleep.
      I have posted this.

  • If not much more, an R5 5500U laptop with upgradable RAM will cover you for general use for years.

  • still got an old dell lattitude e7440 with an i5 4300u.
    Still usable.
This asus seems to have a better cpu
