You must really be needing 1TB of storage to spend this much on a phone

    • +3

You must be rich to spend 2.3k on a c phone when the last 2 generations can meet 95% off your needs already.

      • TBH, iPhone hasn't really changed since iPhone X. Only things changed are like faster processor and better cameras (that are still lagging behind Android cameras substantially). Laughably, the compute on a regular phone device probably peaked the limit back then too - unless Apple opens it up to do other things like desktop modes or true multitasking (which it still lacks), then there's no point.

        • -2

another amazing insight from a one-use-wonder android fan

          • @mlakmlak: Lol. No. But I can guarantee I can do many more things on my Android than your garbage iPhone.

        • +1

IMO, this is a pretty bias post if i've ever seen one. Just to point some things out on this specifically, most phones have iterative updates, but in Apple's case they have the fastest processors in mobile phones at the moment, and have had for quite some time, the A16 vs SD8G1 the A16 comes out front, not only in single and multi threaded performance but also power efficiency. The SD8G1 has some connectivity options above the A16 but nothing worth while.

As for camera's the statement that Iphone cameras are lagging behind Android cameras substantially is "Laughable", Iphones have had some of the best cameras on smartphones since the Iphone X, and currently almost lead the pack, if you check DXO Marks rankings which do very in-depth reviews (https://www.dxomark.com/smartphones/).

@"desktop modes or true multitasking (which it still lacks)", i feel this is a very niche market and is along the lines of "nice to haves, but not important", Android users have long since been fighting the battle of "non removal battery", "no SD card slot", "cant connect my phone to a pc and use it as an external storage device", now it looks like "no niche desktop ability" is a thing. It would be nice to have and SD card slot, especially if you use your camera a lot, but most high end Android phones are no longer include removal batteries and sd cards(s21/s22) because they want you to give them more money.

Before people think i'm biased towards Apple, i'll happily say, i hate their lightning connector stuck at USB2.0 speeds, their lack of using the phone as pnp external storage(which i'll prolly never use anyway), lack of LDAP audio support, which they would use USB-C(Europe Bill possibly changing this), high prices for storage tiers, lack of standard 24months manufacturer warranty. Privacy concerns with iCloud hash image scanning.

But there are other things i do really like about Apple as well, like how secure FACEID technology is, the user interface experience, how on a network the phone automatically detects printers and can print to them, the idea of AirDrop is really good within the Apply eco-system (yes i know some ndroid apps essentially can be setup to do the same), Apple IOS device update support and security patches are far longer EOL than any Android Partner.

the A16 vs SD8G1 the A16 comes out front, not only in single and multi threaded performance

@Trishool: Hi Trischool, looked over the video, that looks like a "real world, app opening test", which looks like it tests how a user would open multiple apps in the same way, i personally dont believe this is a real representation of how power or effective the SOC's are themselves as not all mobile apps are developed the same across both OS platforms.

In the context of my reply, i'd rather point people to specific reviews of the SOC's:

              https://www.notebookcheck.net/Apple-A16-Bionic-hammers-the-S…

              https://www.tomsguide.com/features/iphone-14-benchmarks#:~:t….

              • @Aarent: Didnt neg you, but I disagree. I've seen my partner, mother and other friends and relatives have multiple apps open in the background, and run them. The SD SoC performed very well against the A16 and gave it a solid run for its money, Qualcomm have worked hard to keep pace with Apple's best. What would be other real world tests though? Benchmarks are really not telling a great story imo on real world use cases, where most people are using messaging apps, browsers, youtube, social media, banking apps, navigation and listening to music, with a bit of gaming on the side. The other thing to factor in, is that in the video, the Samsung device is pushing more PPI on its display than the iPhone, so its even more impressive. While the video transcoding tests are interesting, I dont really look to them to wonder about performance, as the amount of people I've seen actually do that, ever, is zero. Great to see that Apple can tear through a video and process it a few seconds faster, but it really doesnt paint the complete picture or a common use case (from my experience). Beyond all that, at the end of the day, most phones, even mid rangers (Im personally using a S9+ and up until 6 months ago, was still using my Nexus 6P) do 95% of stuff you want them to do with no issues. I had to give up on my Nexus 6P due to battery life, otherwise it was great for gaming and pretty much EVERYTHING I wanted it to do. The rest is just splitting hairs, which Apple love to spin into marketing fluff to help enhance their enchantment shows for those that believe Apple is God.

          • @Aarent: "Laughable" (cameras) because it's taken them years to try and catch up to some levels of technical qualities of Android cameras and yeah, every Apple Fanboy thinks its revolutionary. They're still behind on the latest sensors, telescopic zooms and a myriad of other features out of Android flagship phones.

Regarding Dxomark - that's one source I wouldn't even trust. They've been caught out on so many occasions as "paid for comment" by certain organisations that want to pump up their status.

@desktop modes - this is literally the way to go for the future as phones are becoming desktop replacements. I say this because the latest SD chips are probably comparable to an 8th gen i5 in terms of raw processing, hence why it is definitely viable in being used that way. While I can agree that the Bionic is another step above this, the point I have been trying to make is that there isn't many if at all apps that will use all that compute power on the iphone.
Yeah, you can do some light video processing/rendering on it. That's about how far you can go. On the Android, you can literally use it like a computer in desktop modes for much more usage of the CPU. Not only that, the open nature of Android allows for better emulators - PS2, Saturn, Gamecube/Wii, Switch, x86 Windows.. which does use the SoC to its full potential.

Apple themselves have pretty much limited the device to its full potential. You can literally stick something that's 1000x faster into an iphone and at the end of the day, it's still limited by iOS and what Apple locks you down to do.

        • -2

Yeah, lol. The vast majority don't really care about those features. If there was more appeal, Android's market share would grow rather than shrink.

The better camera on Android is pretty much an outright lie - https://www.dxomark.com/smartphones/ if you want to argue a point, keep it grounded in reality. When you talk lower tiers of Android, no most users aren't going to go through multiple reviews and comparisons.

At the end of the day, it's a zero sum game listing the extra features. They exist and consumers largely reject them.

If you like your phone, good for your you.

    • +1

You've never made a bunch of short film clips with inputs from multiple iPhones, GoPros & DJI devices?

      • +4

No, and neither have 95+% of the people that buy these phones.

        • -1

And If someone posted a $300 saving on your Atto I wouldn't care either, but good for you.

          • -1

@mlakmlak: Probably just use those saving to buy some pink kitty headphones. UwU

I have Z flip 3 with 256gb storage, can add up to a 2tb micro sd.
I paid $959.99. It folds in half. So it has a differentiating factor to an extent. I still feel that it's exorbitant. 4gb ram compared to 8gb in the flip 3 Even the flip 4 has 8 or 12gb and its still cheaper, and has better camera specs and better battery life and has better screen resolution and has hdr+ that turns off pixels for pure black.
$2300 for a phone is really ridiculous. Especially considering there aren't jaw dropping improvements. It says 28 hours of playback time, but real world reviews put that closer to 6.5 hours if you put the device in flight mode and battery saving mode.
I know it's cheaper in terms of rrp, but definitely not a bargain in terms of specs and functionality for the price.

    • +4

Nah man that’s a very biased take. The camera on the flip 3 and 4 is absolute garbage compared to the 13 pro max. I agree with the rest.

      • +7

Your comment tells me that i cannot take you seriously.

        • -5

Tom's guide says that even last year's iPhone's with the A15 Bionic are still more powerful than any Android, the new iPhones with A16 Bionic just widen the lead even further https://www.tomsguide.com/features/iphone-14-benchmarks

          • +1

@AustriaBargain: "Ladies and gentlemen, for the 17th year in a row the future of phones has arrived. Quite frankly, Bionic A16 will put all my previous generations to shame"

      • +2

Comparatively.. what are you going to use the compute for on an iPhone when the entire ecosystem is locked down to… like make phone calls and run some apps. You can't even possibly leverage most of the compute power in there unless you actually use it to do something complex - like desktop modes plugging it into a monitor, or playing some high end emulator or virtualisation of OSes or even to have true multitasking of running multiple apps at the same time.

The whole "My latest Bionic is 50% more powerful than previous generations" is total BS when you really can't do anything more with that 50% extra.

        • "640k ought to be enough for anyone"

    • -2

You are comparing your Camry to what? Lol. Man seriously, whatever innovations you have with your Android, it is still CAMRY class with its league. Okay? In short, most people don’t find it appealing AT ALL.

I just can’t understand why this android Boys keep justifying their phone. ALL THE TIME.

      • Privileged. let every android fanboy bow to you then because you know, you smell like roses when you own an iPhone right?

      • the arrogance of this fella

    • +9

Just buy whatever you can afford and satisfy your needs. There is no need to justify your purchase.

      • -3

        I agree.

Everytime there is a post like this, the android boys never stop bashing the apple fanbois.

I think everyone should read ca6leguy's comment above and accept it.

        it's just a phone mate.

        • -3

They're not Android fan bois. They're supermarket phone users and people who want to be different.

They probably can't take a 5 minute walk down the street without going into fits of rage when they see luxury cars.

      • Exactly. We should be commenting on whether a deal is a bargain or not.

        • -1

The issue is. This iphone is not a deal at 2k.
You mis the whole point of the counter argument. Unless phones rake a giany leap forward in technology, these prices are never a bargain so people will always argue.

    • Z Flip3 does not have Expandable Storage

      • Z Flip3 256GB user
    • What muppetry talk is coming out of your mouth.
It doesnt have expandable storage and the camera is ridiculously inferior to the iphone

  • +1

Not really a great discount/deal when the iPhone 14 pro max 1tb is only $200 more at Costco https://www.costco.com.au/Computers-Tablets-Mobile-Phones/Mo…

    • +4

That's for the pro, not the pro max.

      • Ok I'll retract my vote, thought it was the max

  • +4

You can buy this phone and discuss its purchase as an example of how consumerism is making a climate apocalypse inevitable.

    • +2

I’m not supporting the price tag if this phone or supporting any other phone in particular.

But your statement holds good for any phone being purchased these days.

    • +1

You can pick pretty much any disposable consumer product and out use it as an example of how consumerism is making a climate apocalypse inevitable.

    • If this replaces a laptop or desktop then that's kajillions of tonnes of material that doesn't need to be mined each year, because people are using a smaller device.

  • +1

Better off buying a nice tablet for reading or watching things on the move for this price

  • +2

Super pro max pro with pro max for super pro pro max.

I think Apple marketing has lost its way like a lot of other manufacturers.

    • 😃 i know aye..?

    • Have they though? They're number 1 in Australia by quite a large margin with growing market share.

I would tend to agree regarding the phone market. If my phone was to die now, there's nothing really compelling.

  • How is this possibly a deal… $2300 for not only a phone, but a previous gen phone.

    • -1

how is this possibly a deal

Is there a better price around for an iPhone 13 Pro Max 1TB?

      • There are better things to purchase with that money. Unless you are a millionaire, an apple fan boy, or claiming on tax.

        • Who am I to tell people how to spend their own money?

  • +5

HODL. At this price range, you might as well spend a bit more on iPhone 14 Pro Max.

  • At this price its even worth retrieving if you lose it on a Roller Coaster

  • +1

Jesus H Christ, that's a lot of money for an old phone.

  • +2

    A bloated fossil?
Even the local HN has models 11 just a few cents cheaper if you sign up 24 mo on O P T U S lol

iPhone 14 Pro Programmed To Reject Repair by our very own Hugh Jeffreys
i know this deal is for the 13.. but still, come on…
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2WhU77ihw8

    • interesting. I guess the general users wont care about repairing it themselves.

If you're gonna want to take macro photos - then you need the 13 Pro or higher.

    • Yep. Apple has chip locked every hardware on the iphones.

  • +2

Does it work 4 times better than a$800 phone?

    • It's an iPhone. Enough said ;p

    • +1

It lands where expected when considering diminishing returns.

    • Some aspects it will - others it probably wont.
Depends on what the features customer wants and needs.

    • 4 times as usable :P

    • +1

Depends on the user. It will work more than 4 times better when used by a pro user. Similarly, a $5k camera will not work better than a $1k camera if you don't know how to push it to the limit.

      • +1

Be careful. The same guys are on camera posts saying mobile phone cameras give better pictures.

  • I'll stick with iPhone for the following reason

    1. The user experience is much more enhanced than Andriod (I've had both) - even if android is more customisable.
    2. I want it for the camera

But I won't be buying the 1TB storage model. 256GB is my sweet spot.

    • Good choice. But you are spending around $2k for a phone which gives you only 256gb SD. Kn top of that you have to pay for a charger and earphones, then pay extra icloud storage?

Tell me if this is not robbery?

      • but if i never go over 256GB - why should I spend more?

meh, it is what it is. I prefer the iphone user experience over android any day. Plus I only renew every 3-4 years.
this year, I want better cameras

        • -1

It's still a rip off. But you gonna buy it anyways 🙂
