Crescent 10-Piece 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" Deep Socket Metric Sets $19.98 Each + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Bunnings

230

I noticed these were heavily reduced (assumed) to make way for the new Gearwrench range, but don't have a clearance label - just the regular price tag. Checked the website and prices match so I assume nationwide?

These are 12 point sockets with a lip about 1cm deep to hold the nut captive. Picked up a 1/2" to complete my set. Full price they were around $40-55 IIRC

3/8" and 1/2" drive also available

  • Looks cheap for branded sockets.

  • Anyone seen deep torx sockets?

This is a decent deal, if this is what you need. I would say though that if you are starting out you will still need a ratchet, and the it helps to have a universal joint, some extensions and a breaker bar. Usually a starter set comes with all these. If you want to add the matching ratchet for these it's another 20 bucks, that's 40. Add the rest of the items and you are looking at least another 30 or 40. Also I would prefer 5 point sockets that 12, they are better and getting off worn bolts and have less chance of slipping.

But if you just need some deep sockets to add to your existing tool kit and you have that stuff, this is a decent deal. Probably youd pay 10 bucks more than this for the ceapsst thing you could find and these should be half decent

    • Couldn't agree more mate. And to avoid slipping there's nothing quite like a set with 5 points.

      the mythical 5 point hexagon

  • Can these be used for car plugs?

    • +3

Yes and no. Depend on how special is your car plugs and the hole it's going into. My bim as example, only "thin wall" 14mm deep socket can access to the spark plug. You might also need the magnetic one, to hold your plugs properly or they just fall straight to the hole and damage their head, which is very sensitive part.
