962

Frequent flyers will be able to take advantage of thousands more reward seats as Qantas and Jetstar celebrate the reopening of Japan for international travellers following years of COVID restrictions.

Both airlines will make every Economy seat between Australia and Japan available as a Classic Flight Reward over a six-week period from 11 May to 20 June 2023. All Economy seats on Jetstar flights between Australia and Japan between 11 October to 30 November 2022 will also be available as Classic Flight Rewards.

Up to 100,000 reward seats will be available across six routes:

  • Qantas flights between:
    • Sydney and Tokyo (Haneda)
    • Brisbane and Tokyo (Haneda)
    • Melbourne and Tokyo (Haneda)
  • Jetstar flights between:
    • Cairns and Tokyo (Narita)
    • Cairns and Osaka (Kansai)
    • Gold Coast and Tokyo (Narita)

To mark the beginning of the six weeks of reward seats, Qantas will operate two Points Planes between Sydney and Tokyo (Haneda) on 10 May 2023, meaning every seat in every cabin, including Business, can be booked as a Classic Flight Reward.

Qantas will also offer Points Planes between Sydney and Hong Kong on 30 January 2023 when the airline restarts its Hong Kong flights.

The additional Classic Flight Reward seats and Points Planes will be available for booking from 10am today until 13 October 2022. Seats on these flights can also be purchased with cash.

      • Know how it feels. They must be very upset about it.

qantas business class seats all gone.

Melbourne to Tokyo return for two people 126,000 points + $536 (31,000 points per person each way +~$130).

Don't get caught up in sales hype from a shit airline!

    • Is this a bad fare?

      • +1

It's the standard classic rewards price.

    • Definitely get better points to cents value with long haul flights in business class to europe or the americas. But aren't 20-30k pp per leg pretty normal rates for eastern seaboard to Asia? The fees and taxes are unfortunate too - doesn't flying reward on JAL come with 0 fees I seem to remember?

  • Anyone know when Qantas will open up rewards seats to Europe? Looking at flying next July or so and there’s none available at all

    • +1

Hopefully soon as I wasn't expecting them to resume their routes to HK or Japan yet. Really getting screwed by qatar and emirates withholding their rewards stuff from qantas. Though still probably won't bother flying with qantas and just go to Europe through Cathay or TW lol.

  • Is 50k points + $280 return a good deal in your opinion?

    • It ultimately depends how much you value your points. I like the rough 1c per point guide, meaning you can perhaps compare this to a $780 cash fare. That can hopefully help you compare.

      • Thanks! Looking at Skyscanner - it seems like a decent price then. The best I could find was an $800 flight with a layover in Manilla.

  • Hi guys,

    How rare is this deal?

    • +7

      Medium rare

    Is the reward covid? 😅

  • I wish that there were Classic Rewards flights to Bali.

There is a huge unmet demand for seats to Bali.

Like @yaziyo, I value a QFF point as one cent, when comparing cash v classic rewards fares.

So just booked through Qantas and the they cancelled one of my legs as soon as it was booked… so now I have a fare to Japan but none back and on the phone to Qantas….

Any updates on this? If you don't mind me asking, when did you book for?

  • why can't we get this on flights to hawaii too, i'd love a trip there although the aud to usd has been pretty bad lately … :(

  • Is 190k points and $440 a bad deal for PER > Tokyo return? Or is that just standard reward pricing for Business rewards?

    • that might not be reward flight so a bit higher than standard I think, what date do you see biz availability?

      • It was departing Perth 26 May Return 6 June - Business Classic Rewards

  • Can't see any availability for 10 May 2023, unless the entire points plan has already been claimed.

    • I can still see availability, economy class only though.

      • ah yes, can see economy only now on selected days
