AMD Ryzen 5 5600 CPU $229 + Delivery ($0 MEL/WA C&C) @ PLE

650

Good price for the 5600. The 7000 series is priced much higher, so not sure if 5000s will drop in price due to the new series.

Usually ~230 based on Ozbargain price history.

        • +1

          Usually ~230

          So save $1 ???

          Why bother…

          • +2

            @jv: Exactly.

        • +6

Based on previous sales. Not the normal price.

          • +11

@Clear: This is OzBargain. Previous sales are the normal price.

          • -1

@Clear: If its always on sale for 230, then a new product comes in and supersedes it, that "sale" price is the actual adjusted retail price. (to remove the superseded stock)

Source: I am a retail manager.

            • +2

@Ahbal: Except it's not always on sale.

Source: I am a retail manager.

              Proof?

                Been even cheaper.

Just take the L and move on…its a deal post.

At PLE? You can't link other stores and say their price is PLE's normal price. That's not how it works. A retail manager would know that.

                  Source: Not a retail manager.

                  • +3

                    @Clear: ????

Did you not see how many different retailers have been selling them at or below 230?

                    Must be trolling lmao

This is PLE's normal price as per the link. It has been on sale for ~$230ish a few times at PLE, but that's not their normal price. Linking other stores to try and say that's their normal price is not how it works.

@Clear: The product has been superseded….i.e. discontinued..

The previous "sale price" it used to go to, basically becomes the new "retail price" or "clearance price" at a certain point - or even further reduced.

                        • @Ahbal: Production hasn't stopped.

                          • +1

@Clear: hmm, thought it did, as that's what usually happens, either way, I think the 230 price range is well established for this cpu at this stage.

                      • +4

@Clear: That is how they want you think you “save $70” and give them your money.
And $230 seems to be the normal price to me.

                        • @toommy: There's a difference between what PLE's normal price is and what everyone else's normal price is. I'd say a regular PLE customers would be smarter than the average Joe who gets price jacked crap from PCCG.

            • +2

@Ahbal: It's not superseded, AMD is planning to produce/sell Zen 3 for the rest of 2022 and 2023.

              • +3

@iseeyou1312: Fair, didn't know they still planned to produce them in significant numbers(been out for 2 years now).

As above, I still maintain that given the launch of the new product, i.e. 7600x, that the 5600 and co will have their prices at the lower brackets we have been seeing.

                • +1

@Ahbal: I really think we'd need to see the release of the 7600 or 7600x3d and b660 mobos/ddr5 would need to be a lot cheaper before something like the 5600 faces downward price pressure from Zen 4. At around $230 it's already quite a bargain for gaming compared to what else is available.

Plus, Philip Lowe is doing his absolute best to tank the dollar and increase inflation, so even if prices dropped overseas, Aussies r fukt.

        • +3

It's been a standard $239 all most stores (PLE included) for quite a number of weeks now.

      • +1

        Saved you a click.

Thanks, I'm trying to conserve keystrokes.

    • +1

5600 has been cheaper, $229 delivered is good price (not great) as most other shops selling $239 (some with free shipping) atm. I bought one from Amazon Au for the same price few weeks ago.

  • +7

The 5600 seems to be the best value cpu available currently.

This has free delivery as well, at least for me in suburban melbourne. Even so, it's only like $10-15 lower than at some other stores.

  • +1

Not a bargain per se but if you have Kogan credit card points burning a hole in your pocket it's $239 from JW via Kogan (+$12 delivery -$5 first time app discount in my case). I've been struggling to find something worthwhile to use a pandemic's worth of points on and this was the least bad deal I've found for my needs. YMMV

  • +14

It's $227.92 delivered for Ebay Plus members.

    • ur a legend

        Why the downvote tho?

I'm pretty sure i've always seen it at the price

7000 series a rip off as of now lol. Either go Intel with a DDR4 version of their motherboard or just go with Ryzen 5000 series. Great price for a 5600.

    • +2

Though I'd agree the prices at the moment are trying to extract the maximum cash from punters, and will fall in a few months (probably with the 3D cache version's release), you have to remember that DDR4 is EoL and both AMD and Intel won't see new chips on the motherboard past this gen.

AM5 will see new CPUs up to Zen 6 at least - its a more strategic buy.

I'd still wait till after Xmas mind, and probably aim at a 3D cache version of the 7700X on a B650e motherboard after the gouging has ended..

  • Mwaves has it for 239 if people prefer there

Good price but not a great price

    • Free postage on entire order atm if you buy a cpu. Most oders are $7.99 but if buying a case or monitor, the price goes up.

  • Should i upgrade from a 3600 ? or save the money to upgrade to a rtx 3080 or rtx 4000 series from my 5700xt?

    • +3

For gaming performance you'll almost always get a much higher performance uplift upgrading GPU instead of CPU. If you're doing non-gaming stuff then you might want to look at something with >6C/12T.

      • +3

The 5700X is 8C/16T. Is only 100hz behind a 5800X and uses way less power and is cheaper too. That's what i'm rocking atm (5700x with 6700xt) and don't plan on upgrading for a long time. GPU is the way to go for extra fps

    • It'd be difficult to notice that CPU upgrade.

And GPU prices might fall a lot in the next month or two now that miners have finally started dumping, so saving some money for that could get you a solid upgrade.

  • I watch/read a lot of cpu reviews recently for gaming PC, there are 3 very good budget gaming cpu 12100f, 5500, 12400f from cheapest to best performance (in budget range). There are better cpu than these three cpu for gaming, but I won’t consider them in a budget gaming pc.

    • are those i3 cpu's?

      • +1

        12100f is i3
        12400f is i5
        5500 is ryzen 5

  • i3 12100f ~$159
this 5600 ~$229 (i missed type 5500 which was wrong)
    i5 12400f ~$269

The model doesn't really matter, it's the fps it can output with the same GPU. Generally, the bottleneck usually on GPU.

    • Also, you can get Modern Warfare 2 free with 12400f which is worth $120, so if you were planning to buy it it makes the 12400f $150 which is amazing

  • Bought 6 months ago for 285. Not a bad price.

  • What would be a best bang for buck Motherboard for this cpu? (cheaper bang for buck not more expensive)

    • The guys at Hardware Unboxed did a review of motherboards a while back, and the MSI B550-A PRO was about the best value for the more budget-conscious buyer.

      It's priced around $160. https://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=MSI+B550-A+PRO

You can get cheaper boards, but they generally have poorer thermals, so you may end up spending more on cooling or risk shorter board life. Heat issues may also limit upgrading to hotter running CPUs down the track.

      • +1

Great board but the wifi version has been troublesome so keep that in mind

        • Hey, thanks for the heads-up on that.

Do you (or anyone) have any other suggestions for boards to look into around that price? Asking because the Hardware Unboxed review I mentioned, while extensive, is a little dated now and there may be other offerings. Thanks.

          • +1

@surethang: If you want wifi with it, mag 550m mortar version is currently 195 and it’s one of the best b550 board you can get. If you don’t the ASUS prime and Msi pro that is mentioned above are both great budget choices

    • You can often find am4 boards for sub 100. i got the gigabyte aurora b550m for $110.

      • did you mean Aorus or Aurora? and do you have a link for that item, thanks.

    • I love my MSI B450 Mortar max. I think it's about 90 bucks right now. Mid range brand name board at a budget price.

  • Price jumped to $249. Just as I was going to buy one…
