AMD Ryzen 5 5600 CPU $233.10 ($227.92 with eBay Plus) Delivered @ Shopping Express Clearance eBay

380
OCT202210OCT202212

iseeyou1312 kindly pointed out that this CPU is on sale for a good price with eBay Plus and very close to the recent Afterpay deal. Compared to the more expensive 5600X there's little difference between the two making this an excellent choice for gaming at a lower price.

Plus AMD are still producing and supporting these Zen 3 CPUs so if you're building on a budget it's probably not necessary for most people to upgrade to the more expensive 7xxx series.

What is a good motherboard to pair with?

    • +1

MSI MPG B650 Gaming Plus was my pick

      • +2

        Do you mean B550?

        • Yes sorry

I watch/read a lot of cpu reviews recently for gaming PC, there are 3 very good budget gaming cpu
    i3 12100f ~$159
    This 5600
    i5 12400f ~$269
From cheapest to best performance. There are better cpu than these three cpu for gaming, but I won’t consider them in a budget gaming pc.

      lol intel

      • +2

Intels had the best budget cpus for a while now..

        • +1

          Yep.

Unfortunately the decent lower-end motherboards for Intel cost around $40-50 more compared to the equivalent boards for AMD in Australia. Various Aussie YouTube board reviewers have discussed this issue

          Fanboys gonna fanboy tho.

Currently 5600 is cheaper and just as good. Also what Intel buyers don't consider is the power usage. To get max performance, the 12400f has to use almost double the power. More power = higher temps = more cost over time = more money on a bigger cooler or higher temps which might reduce lifespan. Ryzen have better budget gaming cpus.

            @SaulGoodFan: Average Power consumption https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-ryzen-5-5600-and-ry…
            12100 53w
            5600 64w
            12400 76w

Here is benchmark for 5600x(more expensive and slightly faster than 5600) and 12400f. 12400f is obviously faster.
Still make sense that i3 12100f is the cheapest budget gaming cpu. 5600 faster and slightly more expensive to buy and run. 12400f fastest in 3 and slightly more expensive to buy and run than 5600. Anything better and more expensive cpu shouldn’t be considered in budget gaming PC. I have just ordered all parts few days ago and has been delivered 6/8 parts after watch/read reviews/benchmark for few weeks. These 3 cpu are all pretty good for gaming pc, choose any based on your budget or platform. Top gaming PC can choose something like amd 7000 series, intel 13 gen, 12900 or 5800x3d. I don’t usually check those parts except these few weeks, correct me if I am wrong.

              • @SaulGoodFan: It is faster than 5600x, and the power consumption not much different from your link too? Don’t need to look at so many charts from your link, just check the average power consumption from tomshardware

                • @stevelo: Look at the turbo boost maximum draw. It's just ridiculous on the Intel side and causes earlier throttling than desired.

                  • @Techie4066: Yeah, but in average still not much different. Some test 12400f even less power needed.
My 5600 just delivered yesterday, it is definitely one of the best budget gaming cpu. I didn’t choose 12400f because it is more expensive and my daughter monitor is 4K 60hz, doesn’t really need faster cpu at 60fps. But for someone who gaming at 1440p 144hz, 12400f is better.

                    • @stevelo: You have a budget gaming CPU - you want it to perform well at its limit because that is often where it'll be sitting. The 5600 is far and away the best choice factoring in efficiency (which is not so competitive in other new gen products).

How about next tier up woth 12700, 13600, 5800x3d

      • +1

I can't remember the top cpu for gaming PC (i was building budget-mid gaming pc), but i think 12900 or 5800x3d (amd 7000 serier and new intel 13th gen could be similar or even better) should be one of the top gaming cpu. But i5 12400f should be good enough for gaming PC under $2500, it is better spend more on GPU for greater fps improvement in gaming. If you need your pc for productivity it's another story.
Here is one of the comparison in gaming 1080p and 1440p (the different even less in 4k) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-i5rsQlwl2c

      • +2

5800x3d if you need to push ridiculous high frames. I'm on a 3600 and with my gpu/monitor set up there's no point because I can't run high enough frames (75fps@ 3440x1440 / 4k@60fps) so my 3600 is content for now.

Im an amd fan rocking a 5600x, but at this moment i gotta say the 12th gen i5 is a better buy.

  • +1

Same price as computer alliance https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/175271560242

  • Stupid question, if I have a 5900X and play Fortnite competitive 1080p should I sell it and go for the 5800X3D? I've heard it pushes the limits on 1080p games? I only game, no productivity. Motherboard is X570 Aorus Master.

Not looking at upgrading to DDR5 anytime soon, at least for another year or two but I'll definitely be getting the 4090 and selling the 3090 Aorus Master.

    • +2

I’m gonna say no. The performance would be similar and definitely not worth to pay the price for a new one

    • Waste $600 for ~30-40 more fps. Nah.
Your build will last for like the next 4-5 years given you only play competitive games
