+ $150 HN Gift Card

Better than the JB deal if you have a $0 valued/no device to trade in or don’t want the additional Google accessories

If terminating the plan immediately, your Pixel 7 Pro essentially costs (($69 x 24)/2) + $69 (prorated) = $828-$897 and on top of that you get a bonus $150 HN gift card

  • You will also get free personal-data backup in Russia or Eastern Europe

  • @payless69 u good bro?

    • After every free coffee tasting at HN life is good!

  • Is the phone locked to optus?

    • Nope

  • So the OPTUS $69 plan is 500gb and the HN Optus plan is 80gb - feeling a bit cheated on the plan side if I don’t cancel and run!

No way to get more data?

  • Anybody who has terminated a contract - do you get a tax invoice for the final payment?

    • It will appear on your final bill.

      • I cancelled two days ago but my final bill is still $0?

        • How do you check if you have received your final bill? I can’t access the account from the Samsung S22 that was cancelled. Only plan/account that I can see is the Samsung A8 tab

          • @BargainsGrabber: Go to optus website, sign in, after signing it it says my name, account number and cancelled next to it. To the right there's payment summary where it tells me the amount due is $0.
            It does say
"Your account has been cancelled. You’ll be able to access your account for a limited time to download your bills." but it doesn't show the amount

  • Interested. How strong is the screen? I see it has rounded edges.

I drop my phone quite often.

Does anyone know if Optus and HN are putting a deal for Samsung Fold?

  • Anyone know if the deal is avail for the pixel 7?

  • What does the receipt lool like for ETC (early termination cost)? Would this be claimable for salary sacrifice?

  • +3

Why is there no advertisement from either (albeit terrible) company? If I go in first thing Monday will they even know what I'm talking about?

Also surely Optus will be the safest network moving forward….am I wrong?

    • +3

Same question. Keen to do it on Monday but I am not sure what to tell them…

  • Once you cancel, and you have to pay X amount…I assume you can pay with pre-paid credit cards?

There's a deal in 4 days, so that'd be an extra $50-70 saving.

    • you mean coles one 10% Mastercard deal ??

      • Yup

        • even i want to know, if it.can be used. that early termination fee, we pay to HN or straight to Optus ??

  • What about the 256GB model, anything good?

    • +3

I asked today. You can pay the difference, around $150

      • Thank you.

  • What’s stopping Harvey Norman wanting their gift card back if you cancel on day 1/2

    • +1

How are they gonna call you to return the gift card when you've already cancelled your plan? ahaha

  • Port in to telstra at JB by tomorrow, get $300 gift card for porting onto a 12month plan, $300 bonus credit for trading in your phone, $100 gift card and a Google nest hub and chromecast.
I'll be heading to jb tomorrow

    • So this deal? lol

Is the $300 for porting into Telstra 12 months plan Telstra or JB thing?

      • Yeah, my bad, couldn't find that
So it's porting into telstra through jb for a $300 jb gift card

  • +3

Went into Harvey Norman today to have a look at the pixel 7 pro, and asked about this deal. Said it wasnt starting until monday but did it for me anyway. got the pro and the 150 gift card.

    • When are you planning on cancelling?

      • +1

not going to, prefer to pay the phone of than pay it all up front, as a bonus they screwed up and gave me the bonus nest and chromecast so cant complain.

        • Yeah that makes sense paying it off than upfront, but if you paid it upfront wouldn't you save also half of your money as opposed to paying it off over 24 months?

          • @ramona: $1600+ total

            Let's say phone is $750

            $850/24 is $35 a month.

It's actually pretty decent value plan, I think I pay more on Vodafone.

            Just Optus sucks!

I think this is actually the best deal, it works out very cheap for your Sim.

Phone is $1299? So that's $350 for 24 months plan, plus $150 voucher.

          • +1

@ramona: Am paying 69 per month with telstra anyway so no real difference to me. Get a new phone and gift card.

            • @Sam515151: Exactly

I think I pay $35-45 a month, and now that I think about it why would I buy a phone outright when they give you the Sim monthly package so cheap!

24 months sounds long, but I kept my phone for 4-5 years.

So upgrading every 2 years is fine!

              • @[Deactivated]: better get insurance then or is it included for 24 months?

I'd recommend getting a 365 day boost sim with the bonus data offers, cheap as chips when on sale.

                • @G-rig: It's included
                  It's an 80GB plan.

                  • @[Deactivated]: yes, just an option if you were cancelling the optus plan and paying half of device off straight away.

Was the 7 (non-pro) also half of price to cancel.

Assume you're going to get one tomorrow at HN after all this?

                    • @G-rig: Worth trying to see if HN will give you this deal today since you can also get bonus Nest and Chromecast on top of the $150 GC.

                      • @CodeXD: Nah already sorted, got one Thurs JB .
Think that was a mistake giving someone the Google stuff as well there.

                        • @G-rig: What do you mean giving someone the google stuff?

                          • @CodeXD: Didn't think the bonus google stuff was got the HN deal, just the JB one.

                            • @G-rig: I am more confused than before. But I'll say lol if it means no further replies.

                      • @CodeXD: They wouldn't do it for me today in Hobart

                      • @CodeXD: Working today til 6 :/

                    • @G-rig: Probably

I was thinking of getting those discounted MasterCard's first!

Not sure how long this deal lasts!

                      • @[Deactivated]: 28 degrees GC sold out yesterday.. forgot about it but already got and using the phone.

                        • @G-rig: No, these ones are available in a few days at Woolworths I think

                          How's the phone?

Doesn't make sense to buy this outright, may aswell stick to the plan. It's cheaper than the $40-$45 I pay but I prefer Vodafone ahhh

                          • @[Deactivated]: Pretty decent similar to other pixels, all easy transfer, plug one into the other.. just have to log into apps. Haven't tested the camera too much, pretty slippery without a case (arriving tomorrow hopefully), but have started using it.

Sounds like you're getting it for the best deal possible ;)

There was nothing wrong with the pixel 5, but may as well get something for it now, and 5y of guaranteed updates.

                            • @G-rig: I'm still on Pixel 2 XL.

Yeah, I either keep the plan or I pay it out and use 3 X MasterCards which will save an extra $54 :/ lol

                              • @[Deactivated]: Sounds like you just need a new phone haha.
Sold refurbished 3xl that was great before the 5.. just the battery shit

    • Which store?

      • +1

This was at harvey norman noarlunga in SA.

        • Is this part of the deal? It makes it even a little more sweet!

    • Thanks for your content man, I just got mine in QV mall Melbourne CBD

  • Sorry never cancel mobile plan before, for warranty after cancelling the plan do we go to Optus or HN or Google?

    • HN.

      • Thanks

  • I've checked the HN at Carindale and Garden City and both have said the $150 gift card only applies if you purchase the phone outright.

    • well the deal isnt supposed to start until tomorrow, they just said they would do if for me on Saturday and process it on Monday, so maybe try again tomorrow.

  • +2

No luck for HN in Fsychwick.
I tried asking if I could hop onto this deal today but they said I’ll have to wait for tomorrow

  • Can anyone confirm that the ETC is indeed $828 if i cancel straight away? I asked for the t&c or contract before signing up but they don’t have it nor have information about it. I didn’t process through because if its similar like JB plan, the ETC will include the value of gift card. Example JB $99 plan include $800 giftcard which you need to pay back if you cancel early.

  • +2

Just ported in today and picked up the P7Pro 256gb.
Would recommend against trying to get this deal today and instead wait until tomorrow - had to wait around and get manager approval, bought something else for a dollar so they could create an invoice, and will process the plan payment tomorrow on their end.
No amount of negotiation would let them charge the $150 upgrade fee to the $150GC, so I paid the money and have a gift card as well. Handing in my OzB membership card.

(They also were wise to accidentally giving away the nest hub bundle for a deal that starts a day later. And didn't have any pixel 7 pro cases/screen protectors/accessories in store)

    • Store was HN Capalaba.

    • Thats great, could you upload the receipt to help other to try? I asked HN broadway, they can’t upgrade storage and can’t give google nest and chromecast

      • Definitely can't give the Google nest and Chromecast. The store manager said they shouldn't be doing it that day as the deal starts tomorrow.
The upgrade is definitely able to be done from tomorrow onwards - but only 256gb, the 512gb option is not on their matrix of models for that deal.

    • yeah they wised up to the nest hub bundle as i was at the counter getting the gift card, but they let me have it anyway.

      • Can you see your contract and how much is the ETC?

        • +1

its 828 for the 69$ plan.

          • @Sam515151:

            • $150 GC

Is the Chromecast etc definitely included?

  • This or the s22 deal ? Going to get new number and pay for ETC any suggestions ?
    Thanks

  • I spoke to in-store salespeople today. One explained the 12-month payout, another (more senior) was adamant I'd be required to pay out the full $1656, although his explanation was a bit broken ("I'd have to pay out the plan" even though in writing the plan has a max $828 early termination cost?).
I'll try another store tomorrow, which might be a better idea because the deal will be officially live, but I would be keen to have confirmation if someone else has successfully signed up with a confirmed $828 cost!

    • +1

You don't need to speak to the spud from Harvey Norman. Cancellation is done threw optus once out of the store

      • +3

Whilst I understand that, having not done such a cancellation before I thought it prudent, for the sake of $828, to ask the question since the word I was being fed whilst attempting to sign up was contrary to what I expected.

Not sure who negged or why based on simply asking the question…

Anyways, I'll try again tomorrow and hopefully get a straight answer.

        • +2

I was told that HN dribble and waffle from some counter guy, that I'd have to keep it for minimum two months, then was told 3 months. Then he said I'd have to return it to store. I just nodded and paid and smiled and said nicely, see ya mate, and went to car and cancelled whilst sitting in car out side of store.
I wouldn't bother with listening to most of what they say, at least the store I was in, was dodgy as all.
Kicking myself I didn't pay with discounted e-gift cards to save another $24 instead of paying them the full amount.
(S22/256 was $400 over the cost of the free S21/128)
Optus online chat was a bit slow to get connected, but then no issue at all once I got through to a CSR. They're obviously inundated with people asking about the data leak continuously…(insert Optus expletives)

  • +1

I just got this deal and cancelled straight away it cost $828

    • Did you get $150 GC too?

  • Surprised no-ones mentioned this in this thread - maybe it was in one of the others and I have missed it.

The cancellation fee is $828 maximum if you cancel right now. Why not keep it for a year then?

    The T&C state:
The maximum cancellation fee is described in the table at the start of this summary and will reduce each month of your contract term.

    You have two options:
Option 1 - Cancel now and put $828 and lose all the benefits of the $69 plan
    or
Option 2 - Keep new/port number for a year with all the benefits and leave (when the cancellation fee is free)
    ie. $828 - (12 * 69) = $0
(Maximum cancelation fee - monthly payments per year = Total you will pay to cancel after a year)

Just makes more sense for me to cancel after a year for emergencies or just extra data.

    • Your months left divide by 2 * 69.

So if you stay for a year and then cancel, you pay 6 x 69 = $414.

      • No you wont according to the T&C's - because the "maximum cancellation fee" is $828 - since you paid that throughout the year its free for you to cancel.
(This is what an Optus rep was advising me as well) Not sure if this is being read wrong.

        • So from what you're saying the maximum cancellation fee is inclusive of what you have already paid? So if you paid over 12 months $828 then decide to cancel you won't have to pay any other fee? Are you sure that's right? Sounds too good to be true

          • @ramona: That's what I was told by the Optus Billing Team Rep when I asked. I am just confirming with another rep based on the comments here. I will report back shortly.

            • +1

@Roksta: Apologies mate - it seems the first Optus guy I was dealing with has read it wrong. The comments here are spot on.
Really appreciate helping me understand this.

    • Bro, you got it totally wrong.

      • It's a 24 month plan not 12 month.
      • Cancellation fee = remaining month * half of plan fee.
      • At the end of one year, cancellation fee = 12 * (0.5*69) = $414.
      • By your logic, at 1 year point, you will pay $828 + $414 = $1242
      • You are absolutely right! The first point was the kicker in this convo.
Thanks for helping figure this out :)

  • Is this now active? Not showing on their site.

    • +2

This is a store-only offer. You will have to go in and ask.
I just finished up with mine. The uneducated ones will ask you to return the $150 GC at HN and to get them to assist in the cancellation.
However, just tell them that's not the case from HN's perspective and that you are dealing with them about the cancellation of the current SIM-only plan. That was enough for my dude to confirm the cancellation.

      • Definitely no Google freebies I guess?

        $828 - $150 GC is solid value.

The plan itself is good value tho, considering I pay $40 P/M for Vodafone and it's only 40GB. I just don't want to be with Optus.

When does this deal end? I wanna grab Coles Mastercard in 2 days. Should save another $50-$70

Brings it down to around $630 after discounts.

        • You could jump on this deal now, then pay the ETC later when you have your prepaid mastercard.

          • @yummypinacolada: What's the point? I doubt it runs for one day only.

There's no HN near me, I have to drive 40 mins!

But you make a solid point anyways. I might not find any $250 GC at acolds tho, but it just sweetens the deals. I guess I pay Optus over the phone, not HN anyways.

            • @[Deactivated]: just wondering, who do we pay ETC, HN or Optus , if optus, can pay by those coles mastercard deal ??

              • @Harsh Deep: Can you share what is Coles MasterCard deal. I am not able to find it.

              • @Harsh Deep: I assume we pay Optus when cancelling the plan?

No one has confirmed, but once you walk out of HN I doubt you deal with them again.

  • As an existing Optus customer, does anyone know a way I can take advantage of this deal while keeping the plan? At the moment the only way I can think of is to open a new plan and cancel it, but then I'm on my existing plan anyway.

Anyone had any luck swapping numbers between plans on the same carrier? Ideally I get my current number on the new plan. Very frustrating that with all that's happened they do absolutely nothing for their existing customers… loyalty is dead.
