              • @Trishool: Of course it's a legit scheme, I know that much. It was established by government to refund GST for visitors. Regardless of whether border agents pick up on your usage of the scheme or not, it does seem wrong, because your intention all along was to bring the product back home where it was in the first place GST-free. That is a textbook rort. Rorts don't have to be illegal to be a rort. Good luck!

                • +4

@Techie4066: Well going off what it says here, it seems to suggest you can bring the item back into the country and keep your TRS claim as long as it doesn't exceed the maximum passenger concession allowance (but doesn't mention anywhere what that limit is):

If you bring goods back into Australia for which a GST refund via the TRS has been claimed, the goods must be declared, and if the value of those goods (combined with any other overseas/duty free purchases) exceeds the passenger concession allowance, any applicable GST and/or duty may need to be paid unless another concession (example, all personal clothing – except furs) is available.

So the way i read it, I'm not rorting the system. I can bring it back without issues, and I'll be curious to see if they make me pay back the GST amount. If they do, no dramas from me.

                  • +1

                    @Trishool:

If you are aged 18 years or over, you can bring up to AUD900 worth of general goods into Australia duty free.
If you are under 18 years of age the limit is AUD450.
If you are a crew member, the limit is AUD450.

You should be paying back the GST refund since the value of the phone is worth more then $900.

                • +2

@Techie4066: It was also established to encourage Australians to buy local goods and still get duty free prices, instead of only bringing in overseas products without the tax. So it's better for local retailers, hence what they're doing is not just legit, it's actually good for the Australian economy.

                • @Techie4066: Lol you're wrong just accept it

            • @Techie4066: It's applicable to Australian residents and tourists. Look it up. Just need the goods and receipt available for inspection.

I can see an IPhone Deal incoming from Optus they have to gain back customers lol just need to hold a little bit longer 😂

  • Give your personal details to Optus.

What could possibly go wrong !

  • If only I could claim TRS on these.

  • Why are there so many deals on Pixel phones?

    • +1

Because it's an awesome way to tie you to their entire ecosystem.

    • Because Goolge has better lawyers than Optus, no need to steal your data they have tricked you to hand them over anyway.

  • The cpu is on par with a14?

  • +1

If terminating the plan immediately, your Pixel 7 Pro essentially costs (($69 x 24)/2) + $69 (prorated) = $828-$897 and on top of that you get a bonus $150 HN gift card

What's the logic behind this again?

    • +6

Total plan for 24 months cost: $69 x 24 = $1656. But Early Termination Cost (ETC) only costs half of the plan cost

Your cancellation fee will be half of your minimum monthly charge (excluding any applicable device charges) x months remaining in your minimum term. If you cancel your mobile plan, you’ll also have to pay all charges incurred up to the end of the payment cycle in which the service was cancelled.

When you sign up to FlOptus, you’re entering into the first month of the plan. If you terminate the plan immediately (ie terminate on the same day that you sign up for the plan), you’d get charge the $69 pro rated amount based on how long you’ve used the plan for that day

So $828 + whatever the pro rated amount is

      • +1

Thanks, hence the cost is "$828-$897" meaning "from $828 to $897".

        • This seems like a good deal, plus the GC makes it $700-$750 brand new!

I can sign under a new number, and cancel same day?

      • +1

I found this comment explaining it, thank you!
I will delete my other comment.

    • -1

But what do you do with a phone worth only a few months of pizza?

  • Any hope for those currently on Optus month to month plans?

  • +12

Jesus Christ, how is this not negged to oblivion? The shiftiest shit store in Australia fronted by a literal con man and backed onto a network that is coming off the back of Australia’s worst hack that leaked a shit load of users details and has caused massive problems for users with having to get all their personal documents changed or by having their identity stolen.

I would not care if this was a free phone and there was a $0 cancellation policy, I am never going to give Gerry Harvey a cent of my cash and the risk to my personal data is way to important to entrust it to a company like Optus.

This is literally the Optus equivalent to Shopback giving out a $3 random voucher after all their data got leaked. Your phone offerings need to be a shit load cheaper if you think I’m going to give you my personal data, Optus. (Fropanity) me, some of you are cheap to buy off.

    • +3

Why? It's the only way to get a new flagship phone significantly discounted, Optus pays for the balance as punishment… Hehehe
(was told by a HN employee it's Optus absorbing the cost - they're desperate)

      • -2

But why worship Gerry and throw more money at him?

        • +2

Oh well, the staff need to be paid

        • +2

Franchised business, he makes his cut from each store regardless if they are doing well or not. Giving money to a HN store isn't giving him a % of it to him. Until a store closes, he is getting his money and I don't want to see people losing their jobs.

          • @FabMan: even this bbs has bots that cancel out all negs. Corrupt like any media outlet.

    • I don't think he'll care !

    • +3

      Did Shopback ever got fined?

      • Yeah, but they just paid with a $3 gift card to some shop that only 5 people use.

    • -2

The general public is just plain stupid and does not think past their noose. If you neg it some media company owner hats you for stopping him from taking bribes!

    • -1

Gerry has enough bots to trick this bbs that he is always right!

    • +1

soooo…. you going to neg it then?

  • Is this deal will be online or instore?

    • +2

In store. Gerry wants you to visit them ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

      • +1

        Thanks OP!

  • Vodafone and Telstra is best
    Optus is shit
I even did noy get a proper network most of the time.

Just port to Vodafone and going well

    • +4

Just travel outside the city, see how that goes hahaha
My free month with Felix has been good but I'll be back with Boost soon.

      • Felix is now 4G with wifi calling and volte all working and personally tested. The only problem now is 3G is talk and text only with no data (roaming on Optus) but if your with Vodafone proper you get data too on 3G (experience this just this week around Bundaberg)

I’m December you will be roaming on Telstra 5G unless the ACCC does something stupid & listens to flopOptus whining!

  • +1

I will wait for iPhone 14 Pro Max with $100 voucher :d

    • Out HN store has heaps of models 12 for a bargain $1486.00

  • A sales guy hinted to me about this deal last week when I almost got onto the s22

  • Is this a better deal than the s22?

    • +1

The phone is definitely better than the S22.

    • The phone is better but the termination cost is higher.

    • +3

Will take pure android over bloatware anyday

      • +2

Lol I take a featured Android over 'pure' Android.

      • Pixel phones do not run pure Android, will need to look for alternative OEMs if you want pure Android.

  • +2

Got one from Google store instead. I'll make a price protection claim with 28 degrees when it drops below $1k next year

  • Google credit is useless.

It's either this for under $800, or I spend 1k and get a new s22 ultra from marketplace. Lots of people selling upgrades they dont want.

    • I know, HN gift cards are at least good to wipe!

  • Will you still get the CCWGTV and the Google Nest Hub? Redemption from Google?

    • +1

Nope cos that ends on 16th while this deal starts on 17th :/

  • +1

    Is there a 256gb option?

  • Anyone able to get upgrade gb storage on similar optus deals in the past?

  • Kinda want to know if anyone has previous experience with Google from last year's P6, I ordered P7P from Google and already got a $300 credit, so if return the phone, will my credit will be gone too?

  • +2

Hardly Normal + Floptus. Match made in hell.

  • +1

I want to understand how 128gb without expandable storage would be enough for good photos and videos. Do they expect users to either use Google drive or onedrive to store photos?

    • +4

To incentivise u to use their storage plans, so yes.

    • +2

What? I am literally taking photos all day and videos for this or that and emailing them around. Had this last phone (64gb Redmi Note 10 Pro) and I am only at about 50% full on memory. And this includes all the apps I use as well.

What the (fropanity) are people filling their phones with where they all carry on like 128gb is considered too small?

      • Kids, sometimes my own.

  • 1: I need to be with either Optus or Telstra for work. (They cover a portion of the bill). Currently with Telstra on $69 so this is no change and I need to get away from Telstra to get any good deals with them in the future
2: I need a new phone and want something like the pixel 7pro 256gb

I don't see many downsides to this deal? If a great Telstra deal on a 12month plan comes up in the next 24 months I'll need to pay an early exit fee.
Given the price history of pixels I don't see it coming down less than this current deal any time soon

Feel free to point out where I'm wrong

  • +1

Extra $50 voucher to put even more money into Harvey's pocket?

    Hell naw!!

Might as well get 10% off google store and get $300 worth of product and sell it off.
Pixel buds pro would be good for resell.

  • Will there be any phone locking issues if this deal is with Optus? ie. could I immediately use another carrier's sim if I cancel the plan?

    • The phone should be unlocked as it is sold by Harvey Norman themselves. You're only signing up to the sim only plan with Optus

    • More latching issues. 1.5 billion people waiting to call you!

    • Phone is unlocked, yes

  • Are we sure that we'll get a $150 gift card as the promotion with the GC, Nest and Chromecast ends on 16th.

    • Yes. The gift card+ nest + Chromecast is being pushed by Google as a pre-order bonus to move stock and get you into their ecosystem.
This deal is a classic Australian TelCo deal, and starts after the pre-order bonus finishes.
(Just pulling together what I've read on this deal and the JB trade-in deal expiring on the 16th)

  • Google still feels the same without the hassle (if you have the 10% Google coupon or student bean)
    * used my google rewards money to buy GOne membership

    $1299 - 129.9 - 116.91 - 300= $752.19
    (Price - 10% Google coupon/student bean - 10% GOne membership - $300 GC)

    HN
    $1299 - 402 - 150= $747
(Price - Cancel Plan - HN GC)

$5.19 diff which you can count towards shopping or your time since you have to go to the HN store.

    • I was thinking the same, but came back to money in the hand verses credit at Google store for something that I may or may not use anytime soon.

      • You do have a whole year to use it - perhaps in time for Pixel 8 or Pixel watch 2? ;)

        • Very good point. Pixel tablet is what I'm more excited about. Not so much the tablet but for Google home/home assistant setup looks very interesting.
But hopefully it will come with some deals when is released. Not being locked in with a voucher at 1 store only is a positive.

    • Hey mate, where did the $300 gift card come from in your calculations?

Also, GOne membership is Google One? Can you just pay for 1 month then cancel this membership?

      Thanks :)

      • The $300 is referring to the Google store credit that Google is giving atm if you buy their Pixel 7 Pro (offer running till the 16/10) which you can use until next year.

Yes, GOne = Google One Membership
Yes, but its advised you keep for 2 months because they only apply credit 30 days after the product has shipped - but you can use your Google Rewards money for this.

      • +1

I think Roksta was referring to the $300 Google Credit (GC)
        If buying directly from Google:

        • Pixel 7 gets you bonus $250 Google Credit
        • Pixel 7 Pro gets you bonus $300 Google Credit
  • +1

Optus leak data through incompetence and little care for the privacy of their client base, and then to try and rebuild their customers, they join forces with Harvey Norman! How tone death can you be?

In reality, I suppose they are a fitting match. One pockets tax payers money during a crisis, and the other rips the nation off through incompetence

    • Did your neg also being revoked?

  • What if you're an existing optus customer? I assume you could keep your number and get the new deal?

    • +1

No, you cannot port in optus number into optus. You can get a new number.

      • Yep you're right. I had to switch to optus prepaid first then sign up on this deal again to keep my existing number. Thanks

  • +1

Optus + Harvey Norman, what a great duo of companies. Add in some QFF points as the cream on top for poorly run companies.

    • To me Alan J. is a very honest man compared to our "enemy"…….

  • Optus, no thanks.

  • 2 year contract = no
    Optus = no.

    The JB hi-fi deal better.

    • This is why you take advantage of early termination of $828 haha

      • It will sell for $400 in 12 months so think it’s only $428 & $150 gift card means it’s even less

        • +2

Nah, in 12 months you wanna use it as trade in to JB - $300 bonus trade in bonus, phone value $300 XD
