Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 LTE 40mm $299, LTE 44mm $349, Classic Silver LTE $499 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

330

JB running some specials for their Galaxy Watch 4 LTE range.

40mm Silver LTE @ $299: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-galaxy-watch4-40m…
40mm Black LTE @ $299: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-galaxy-watch4-40m…
44mm Black LTE @ $349: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-galaxy-watch4-44m…
46mm Classic Silver LTE @ $499: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-galaxy-watch4-cla…

I have purchased a 42mm Classic Silver LTE version from MobileCiti which seems to be always at a lower price (which claims to be official AU stock with AU Samsung Warranty) compared to other retailers @ $398:
https://www.mobileciti.com.au/samsung-galaxy-watch-4-classic…
1 day after receiving this watch, I noticed that the battery depleted 40% within 4.5 hours of standby in Bluetooth mode only - no fitness tracking, location tracking turned off, cellular turned off, wifi turned off, HR set to every 10 mins (not continuous).
I haven't even installed any app so far.
This means a full charge will last less than 10 hours with the slightest usage.
This is not usable.
Therefore I have requested a refund - let's see how I go.

In summary, the personal advise is: if you want the convenience of running your watch without the companion phone for whatever reason so you are considering the LTE version - please avoid the smaller size watches since the batttery is not usable. The 44mm/46mm will be a better choice.

"I noticed that the battery depleted 40% within 4.5 hours of standby in Bluetooth mode only"

Damn, that's pretty bad. I wonder if it's the LTE modem draining juice? You should checkout a Garmin watch, all the smart watch stuff, such as messages, phone call alerts, NFC payments etc, without the colour screen though. Lasts about 1 month give or take.

I've been using this over 10 months now.
The battery is much better than that. It lasts more than a day. Every mornining it shows around 20% battery left. So, while taking a shower and prepare to go to work, I put it on the charger.

Mine is 44mm / Bluetooth on / not using always display on mode.

Bought it at 290 that time with special discount. No regret at all.

I have the 46mm Classic LTE and it lasts all day. I tend to not have LTE on all the time (use mobile WIFI), but I'm really impressed with it.

I’ll get one of these “smart” watches someday when the battery could last 2 weeks with one single charge.

    • It's hard if you want a smart watch with Google Assistant /siri

It exist already just on different OS. Main issue currently wearOS is the biggest obstacle.

Huawei's watches seem to have great battery life

the GT3 Pro can do close to that, it's on my wrist rn. best health metric measurements for a non-apple watch, I don't know how it can last so long either but it took me 12 days to bring it down to 20%?

cons are that it's huawei, and that QoL services like maps, spotify, and NFC payments don't exist on it atm.

it's just a really good health metric measurer

      also looks good fwiw

Might check whether you got AoD turn off or not since thats one of the biggest battery drain on samsung watch.

Yep I had the AOD on….but having that AOD was one of the main reasons why I like the look of the galaxy watch 4 classic range :(
Otherwise, I agree with checkingthisout, Garmin or even Amazfit/Xiaomi will be a much better choice if battery life is the highest priority.
In contrast, the Apple watch series 7 with AOD turned on lasts about 18 hours between charges, which is acceptable since at least it gets me through a full day.

Gave up on smart watches after using this model. Hear the Pixel Watch is even worse for battery life.

Just gone back to wearing normal watches, that you don't charge, every, freaking, day.

Turning off features to save battery isn't a feature.

Tech needs to come a long way imo. And FWIW, they are grossly overpriced for new models imo.

  • Get the 5 pro battery life is 3 days + for me

  • if anyone's into health metrics more than the features, the galaxy watch 4 has almost the same (if not the same) perf as the galaxy watch 5, so this is a pretty good deal IMO

  • Heard that the LTE versions tends to drain battery and runs hot.

    • Yes, I have the 44mm and the battery lasts less than 1 day when is LTE is turned on for me, so now I only turn LTE on when I need to use data. Also whenever you do something data intensive on LTE (like watch video) the watch overheats in 1 minute and you need to wait 2 minutes while it cools down, but the watch isn't even warm to the touch, so I think the "overheating" warning is garbage.

      • Can you still access data with the LTE turned off but near a Wifi connection and using Wifi instead?

  • Anyone using LTE with any MNVO ?

Agree. Just prepared to charge every night (or evening and morning if you want sleep tracking)

Useless. Its all because human unable to find new battery technology since dinosaurs age.
Still the old lithium… they created new chip says 10% battery efficient yeah right but adding features better screen and all that 10% gone
