          • @capslock janitor: I believe funds are taken straight away from GC (at least it was the case, when I tried last time).

            • +1

@RichardL: Taken straight away but showing pending so you can cancel and get refunded anytime before the item ships.

    • +1

I was charged like 2am this morning and it hasn't been marked as shipped only "arriving 21-22 November".

      • I was charged around 4am, and said "Arriving today between 11am & 11pm"

  • +2

Wasn't going to get it, but preordered at that price.

  • +1

    bought it, thanks op

  • +1

Kept my Gerry Harvey order but also ordered this.

Used a gift card so prefer to get from there. If it becomes clear Gerry will give me the run around I'll cancel HN, otherwise I'll stick with Gerry and cancel Amazon as date gets closer.

Amazon is usually a much smoother transaction so I'd definitely get from them if not for the gift card.

  • -4

    Is this for pc?

    • +13

Yeah mate, just need a Switch emulator.

    • +3

Only for the Switch, Google Stadia and the G3 iMac.

  • Hard not to resist pre-ordering it at that price.

Now I'm wondering if I should cancel my Amazon pre-order for the double pack - seems crazy to pay $128 for that when I can probably get by with this for $48…. my only thought is if I play the Violet single copy whether it is worth keeping the double pack, hiding it away and selling it many years down the track - thoughts on whether the limited edition is worth the investment? Crazy what you see old Pokemon games change hands for but I am highly doubting Pokemon Switch games will ever sell for as much as the old Gameboy Color or DS variants….

EDIT - And now Scarlet is $48 so I have pre-ordered that one too….

Decisions decisions, do I just cancel the double pack or not now? I am only a casual pokemon fan so having 3 orders in seems a bit crazy….

    • Is the dual pack limited edition? I would have thought keeping the single version with steelbook would be more limited and have a better long term value

      • Not sure how limited it is. It had been out of stock for a while on Amazon so I didn't want to cancel my order but notice it is also back in stock now but still at $128.

Wondering if this is more stock or just stock going back in the system from people cancelling and buying these cheaper single version copies.

        • Noticed the dual version comes with the steelbook so may be worth keeping long term. But I'm hoping for a cheaper price than $128 as plenty of shops have it and I don't think it will sell out

        • +2

i cancelled mine, not worth the extra $30 imo. i have the X/Y steelbook because i got it as a gift but have no idea what to do with it

          • @edumacation: I know X/Y may have been one of the unpopular gens, but even that steelbook is sure to be worth a pretty penny considering its about a decade old.

        • Hmmm I'm in the same position. Do I save the 30 odd bucks and get the 2 individual packs or stick with the double pack (I do like steelbooks…) But ehhhh. Not sure I care enough to have the dual pack for 30 extra..

I'd actually rather buy locally (Gamesmen is up the road from me) but at like 160 for dual pack and 68 for steelbooks individually it's hard to justify.

EDIT: Bah, in my lack of decision one went out of stock (Violet)… Guess that answers my question. Should've just pre ordered both and decided later. Better hand in my OZB card.

EDIT again! Back in stock! Ordered both. Will decide later which to keep :D

          • @ReaperX22: did the same! let me know what you decided :-D

        • anyone noticed that the steelbook looks different between the dual version and single version (with JB)?

          • @Magicmagic: Yep, that dual steelbook is exclusive to that pack, whilst the single steelbooks are a pre-order bonus for the separate games.

Scarlet $48 now Pokémon Scarlet - Nintendo Switch https://amzn.asia/d/8VwaeTb

    • difference?

      • just redirects back to AU amazon, no difference.

      • Amazon initially only price matched Violet, then OP updated the post to include Scarlet after my comment

  • Nice, bought one of each

  • Ordered both, thanks OP.

  • Pretty great deal for a new Pokémon game. Also stacked $5 credit on top from the previous $50 gift card deal (where you got $5 credit on your next purchase if you bought a $50 gift card). So, got it for $43 after applying the credit.

  • +2

    Xmas Sorted!!! Thanks OP!

  • where's the steelbook edition of pre-order?

  • Ordered but may cancel sim is getting switch for Xmas but is Mario daft have a few Mario games laid aside already but the price of these pulled me in.
He will be close to 7yrs old when he gets it I’m just not sure if his type of games.
What type of games are these? Lots of game play?

    • It’s Pokémon. Turn-based monster-collecting RPG. Very kid-friendly.

    • Well, there's only one way to find out! Pokemon was a big part of my childhood. I wouldn't recommend buying both though, as they are basically the same game.

      • Most purchased both why? I did as thought two different games why would they take out two games the same?

My son is Mario daft so not sure what he would think of this but daughter might like it

        • They do it with all of the Pokemon games, I don't know why. There are some different Pokemon between the 2 and apparently some difference in clothing. I wasn't particularly interested in getting the game, so I just got Violet (because I like purple). Having said that I don't think you'd have trouble selling one for $50 later on, even used, or you can cancel your preorder any time until it ships.

        • +2

Why do they sell two games that are basically the same with minor differences?

Money/Tradition/Encouraging trading of Pokemon (just like sports cards) between players. However, most players don't bother with trading.

Why do some people buy both games?

Well, that way they can trade the few edition exclusive Pokemon between themselves (roughly 5% of the total Pokemon, including the one on the box cover). Or possibly the even more likely scenario… collecting, heaps of people love collecting everything Pokemon, heck it is basically what the game is about.

In terms of gameplay, both Scarlet & Violet are practically identical, so for most people, one edition is definitely enough. If your son and/or daughter likes the game so much that they want to play more, then an edition from a previous generation of Pokemon would be a much better buy, compared to getting both from the same generation. (Scarlet & Violet = Generation 9)

That's actually how I ended up playing the game for the first time, my friend got both games from the same generation as a gift, then realised it's basically the same thing and gave one to me.

Reading the comments here may make you believe otherwise, but buying both games from the same generation is definitely the minority.

    • My 6yo is all in on Pokemon but thats largely due to the influence of his 10yo brother.

I introduced the 10yo to Pokemon when he was 4 as i expected he would appreciate the detail around type effectiveness etc.. He has always been addicted to memorising things. Periodic table/foreign alphabets etc.. If your young one appreciates that sort of stuff they will be super keen.

  • Wow, haven't played a release since Sun/Moon (or Let's Go I guess) but at $48 and free delivery its hard to turn down.

May cancel if there are leaks that it sucks but I'll see how we go.

    • Sun/Moon was the worst pokemon game in the franchise imo.

      • The mixup of the bosses was a real improvement. Giving them the ability to summon allies gave them a much-needed action-economy advantage. The Ultra beasts had cool designs too.

The cutscene density was pretty bad, but Sword/Shield gave it a run for its money.

      • +1

You clearly didn't play Sword/Shield. At least Sun/Moon had a decent plot.

        • Yeah i avoided that due to how bad it looked. My gf played it at the time and it looked so shallow and linear.

Actually Sun/Moon was the last pokemon game i played… Enough to turn me off the franchise. First game was Pokemon blue in 1999.

I'll give Arceus a go eventually and see. Hopefully this game is an improvement too.

  • +2

Scarlet purchased on Amazon and going to cancel HN order. Not today Gerry!

  • +1

Do any switch games come sealed?

    • Sometimes but usually not.

    • First run Switch games (i.e. new releases) are generally not sealed.

Later down the line, you're more likely to pick up a sealed copy.

  • +4

Looks like Violet just went OOS

  • Scarlet will be gone soon too!

  • +1

    Got both nice

  • Back in stock.. go go go

Now to cancel my Harvey Norman orders.

  • +1

Thanks OP! Have two kids and was scratching my head on which to get (assuming it was $69). Bought both since it's essentially getting a second copy for $27. Will stop all the talk about spoilers and fighting so money well spent in my book!

  • +1

Says Violet is OOS but I could still add to cart and purchase when clicking "See All Buying Options"

  • +1

Dont have a switch but pre-ordered…time to re-buy one I guess

  • It looks like there is a limit of 1 copy of each game per account.

  • Scarlet now $48 on amazon

  • Called in Gerry's store and they cancelled it.

  • +4

HN chat is being slammed with cancellations according to the rep I was chatting with.

    • +8

Ha. Good! Amazon isn't the hero, but Gerry is definitely the villain!

  • Worth getting both?

    • +4

Not unless you want to give one to someone.

      They’re the same game.

  • +1

Preordered both even though I already have a preorder in for Violet with JB Hi-Fi with the bonus steelbook. Is it really worth the extra for the steelbook? :/

Edit: Just realised I had the dual pack preordered on Amazon as well…

    • +1

Nice collectable, especially if it doesn't cost you extra. Was able to get jb to price match both before the cut off. So 2 free steelbooks. In addition, can collect the game on the day of release. Amazon, in the past for me anyway, dispatches on the day of release so I didnt get it until Monday.

      • +1

It's lucky you managed to get JB to price match, I haven't had much luck getting them to price match preorders previously :(

  • I wish I could pay for this today. Hate how amazon charge you the day before shipping ready or not.

    • You kinda can with gift card. It subtracts it from the balance and shows it as pending if you look at your gift card balance history.

  • This one is just normal game and comes with normal case? Or is it steelbook version and comes with DLC, like the JB one?

    • +1

      No steelbook or dlc items

    • What's the DLC?

      • +1

It's some in-game healing items: Fresh Water x5, Soda Pop x5, Lemonade x5

  • +3

Wiglet; Pokemon designs are getting stupider and stupider… must get one.

  • +1

Bought both copies… Bellibolt is the cutest

  • +4

Remember folks, if you order through Amazon, you'll probably receive it on the Monday 21st or Tues 22nd

    • +1

Even though it says "Estimated delivery (day it's released)"? I've never pre-ordered from Amazon

      • Yep. I'm just speaking from my own experiences. Ymmv

      • I've only done two preorders on amazon (Arceus & Snap) and both were delivered on release day when that option was paid for.

        • I got Animal Crossing New Horizons one day before release date but Arceus came late because I pre ordered late.

    • Always get my pre-orders on release day (albeit once it was delivered at 10pm on the day lol)

    • I got No Man's Sky on release day, my Amazon orders are always delivered by Amazon though, may be different if your orders get delivered by another carrier.

  • +2

    Scarlet gone?

    • +1

I just checked. Clicked see all buying options and was able to do the $48 pre order there.

      • Thank you!

  • -2

That $13 for express delivery to get it on release day though is a bit "how ya goin"…

  • +1

If you click "See more buying options" you can still buy Scarlet.

    • Just did that as well

  • +2

Great to see so many fellow Pokemon trainers on Ozb :D

  • +6

These games look like old mobile phone level garbage, if they weren’t “Pokémon” games and you had only watched the trailer I doubt most people would be preordering it.

    • +1

Is this why it is dropping below $50 mark even before launch

    • +1

Pretty much, every gen is a reskin, but the game is fundamentally the same in 99% of aspects.

      • +1

Yeah, I've been out for several generations (apart from the Let's Go version, haven't played since GBA), and while there's promises that the game is very open world, non-linear, there are other reports that the game doesn't scale with you.

So if you go to traditionally the 8th gym, you would be absolutely destroyed. It's like they tried to change a bit, but they literally don't know how to go the full yard.

        • I Can't really be surprised at this point, it's a pokemon game, if anything, you know what you're gonna get at least. anyone expecting anything substantially new from a mainline pokemon game is dreaming.

A fresh coat of paint does wonders for hiding the old.

  • Looks like both are back in stock

  • Preordered both as it’s cheaper than the bundle. Shame it doesn’t include the steel book as a collectors item.

  • +1

Well I went from wait and see at release to ordering both at that price… Thanks for the post.

  • Canceled my order with HN and ordered from Amazon. Live chat said the store will contact me via email to provide me with an update.

  • How many hours is the story for the game (rough estimate)? I'd like to buy it for my young nephews but I don't think they would play the game for longer than 15-20 hours

    • +1

Most pokemon games are about 30 hours for main story
