I received this email but it shows a 404 page upon clicked on

    • Same here

      • Haha thought it was just me. getting the 404.

    • Same. Thought it was a phishing email

    • ditto

  • Got the email today, but click through then shows 404 Page not found under the Paypal webpage frame (not a complete empty page). Not sure if the page is just not ready for me.

  • +13

I got “pay $2500 for wrongthink”.
    Delete.

  • Got the $20 Coles voucher. Seems there was a 10% off liquor too that stacked.

  • I received this email a few days ago and then again today, both times i clicked the link i got 404 page

  • I also got a 404 error page when I clicked the link from my email

  • I got the $20 off $100 spend.
Copied the code from email and added at checkout under 'promo code' at Coles online and it works fine

  • definitely legit because i got similar emails last year to accounts i hardly ever use. haven't got around to activating it yet…

  • Has anyone got the $10 to work? Seems everyone gets a 404?

  • I got the email twice, once last week and one yesterday. Both links are 404

  • +4

Good ploy… give the plebs 10 bucks… then take 2500.

  • What's the email link? I'm wondering if it's not account specific since you have to sign in separately

  • It’s a scam according to PayPal

I had the same 404 error like many of you.

I had an online chat with PayPal.

“ Hi xxxxxxxxxxxx, Upon review of the screenshot, I can say that this is definitely a scam. The email address used to send it to you is not one of our official email addresses.

Kindly delete it right away and if in case that you may have provided your log in details, kindly reset your password so that we can ensure that no can access your account.

Thank you for contacting PayPal and for being a valued customer. You may close the conversation by selecting End Message”

    • Then what is one of their official email addresses? It was sent from PayPal @ emails.paypal.com

  • I sent them screenshots and sent them
the email address it came from -
    [email protected]

I have limited technical knowledge and was confused as that looked legitimate and it also used my full name.

They came back and we’re clear it wasn’t them as they had zero record.

  • near the bottom of the email, it has:

How do I know this is not a fake email?
Emails from PayPal will always address you by your first name and last name. Fake or "phishing" emails tend to have generic greetings such as "Dear PayPal member". If unsure, forward the suspicious email to [email protected] and we'll let you know if it's really coming from us or not.

but it does have my full name at the top…?

  • Yes I even mentioned the full name thing to them

“ Yes I’m very cautious re emails, it’s definitely seems to be from PayPal - it uses a PayPal email and uses my full name (please see screen shot attached)”

and it definitely links to the paypal site and not some forgery. i suspect it's a promo they sent out by mistake and wiped out the landing page linked to in the email.

    Agreed

The email definitely came from PayPal. The GMail header check shows the following:

    SPF: PASS with IP 13.110.227.117
    DKIM: 'PASS' with domain emails.paypal.com
    DMARC: 'PASS'

It was legitimately sent from PayPal but whether they meant to send it and to who is another question. Clearly there isn't anything recorded on the accounts that received the emails for the CS reps to see so they just say it is a scam.

Maybe the marketing department notices that they had zero response to their campaign and does some more testing next time.

  • Picked up my order today. Due to an item being OOS I was only charged $30 in total as they still passed on the full $27 discount that was calculated on my original $100 order. Sweet!

    • but did you pay with paypal?

      • Yeah, "You've paid $29.89" from my PP

        • oh! you're talking about the coles $20 off voucher, not the paypal $10 in the OP.

          • @tdw: Yeah sorry, some of us got that instead of the $10 one.

  • Got the email but get 404 message when clicking on it. Sigh
