A bit extra on top of the basic kits available from bunnings , feels about the normal price it should be - e.g. for $35 https://www.bunnings.com.au/craftright-75-piece-carry-case-t…

    • oh this is nice! thanks for the info.

    • +2

Not sure about the amazon one's quality. but Craftright's tools quality are not good. I have some.

      • +1

I have a few different tools and they are perfectly OK.. they are used for the one job (not everday for tradies) so decent is good enough.

Craftright are the cheapest brand available in bunnings. They are excellent bang for buck for home DIY imo.. much like ozito power tools..

The cost savings more than make up for premium offerings imo.

If i was a tradie i would not use them though……

Must we pretend such utter crap is a deal? Its discounted crap sure but its obviously dog shit.

    • +9

Doesn’t matter, sadly… people will upvote (and buy) just because it’s a discount.

    • +9

Wrong. Purchased..I can confirm it contains ZERO canine turds.

      • +3

Thank goodness for that, I was hesitating.

        • +2

          You're welcome.

    • -1

Depends on how often person uses the tools. To buy a Wera set for a 60 year old female who is never going to use them seems a bit of a waste…

    • +7

Absolutely agree. My daughter was given a smaller version of this (but in pink!) for her 10th birthday. The hammer, which looks identical, fell apart after a couple of uses.

It is slightly above Christmas cracker gift level in terms of quality, but only just.

      • I've used a hammer like the one in this kit (friends place) and the hammer head literally snapped off on a strike, and flung back to the side of my head…

        • Ha, funny you say that… I was about to type that I've seen lots of these hammers with the head snapped off in recycling centers.

    • +7

      79pcs of landfill

  • +1

No socket wrench. I need one to clean the breville coffee grinder, apparently.

    • Power tool may get the job done faster.

  • +11

    https://www.kmart.com.au/product/129-piece-tool-set-43015863…?
Is probably a better deal as you get sockets and wrenches

    • +3

vice grips FTW. I hate it when tool kits dont have one, one of the most useful tools around the house. Good for DIY dentistry too.

  • +4

nice to see they've included a hammer and a saw for pc assembly purposes …

    • Hammer is essential

      • +1

Dont you all use a hammer when putting in your cpu in the socket?

        • +1

Yes, otherwise the cheese slice takes up too much room on the socket

      • +2

These hammers also have a handy force limiting function. If you try to hit too hard, the head falls off.

        • +2

Note to serial killer self. Dont buy this hammer.

          • @xoom: Are you Dahmers long lost mystery child?

            • @CauseNEffect: I cannot confirm nor deny that.

              • @xoom: Do your neighbours report a bad smell coming from your residence?

Do you blame this is on, meat gone bad?

                • @CauseNEffect: Im not at liberty to discuss what is in my freezer.

    • +1

You need an allen key and tweasers for PC building.

      • It's a CPU, you're not icing a cake.

    • Cutting hard line water tubing will require a saw, and hammer can be useful for knocking out sections of metal of the case.

Guys c'mon please buy proper quality tools. Yes it'll cost you a bit more initially but it'll save you years of frustration later!

    • +1

I agree with this. I had cheap crap tools that I was always replacing for a long time and was always frustrated until I got myself some good priced tools. The difference is night and day. I spent just as much on crap tools as I did on the good stuff

    • You're wasting your breath.

The same call-out is ignored for plastic-fantastic espresso machines from Sunbeam, Breville, DeLonghi (et al) on OzBargain.

      • Not everyone wants to spend thousands on an espresso machine. Not a fair comparison.

        • Not everyone wants to spend thousands on hand tools. It's an objectively fair comparison.

Recommendations on what to get then for basics to keep at home? I assume at least a screwdriver set, ratchet set, electric drill

    • Any recommendations? I am not familiar with the brands but would love a low-end quality set instead of rubbish like this

      • I'm a DIY guy who uses tools regularly for handyman jobs and I'm happy with a set of small/medium/large screwdrivers from Woolworths that looked like this for maybe $8 or so - https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/249602/hom…

I use both flat and philips(cross) head screwdrivers so different sizes are needed for different screws

but yeah - craptastic kits of easy-break tinker toy tools tend to be a WOFTAM

Thanks. Bought one and now I can build households.

    • Damn. Thats what i been missing trying to build a household.

    • My step dad built a house with not much more than this. I don't think he had owner builder licence either. Dunno if Council would pass it though if you did that these days.

      • Unlikely. Councils are very particular with what they approve these days.

        • +2

Very true, that is why everyone builds without approval.

      • Not just these days, if council finds out your dad built a house without permit, he will be in a world of headache.

        • I remembered we had a house before where the original owner built a covered backporch which was not permitted by the council. They made us tear it down. Luckily we were going to anyway since we were converting it to a sunroom.

  • +1

any recommendations on a useful tool kit for the car?

  • +2

This looks like the perfect thing to gift my wife so she doesn't keep borrowing my tools!

    • you don't want your woman handling your toolkit … ?

      • Hah, she uses things and doesn't put them back afterwards. I end up with junk all over the place.

  • +2

Can’t wait to hammer in one nail and the hammer will be bent backwards.

  • nope.

  • +3

Whos upvoting this? not a single comment from one..

    • +1

Haha. These are the OzB stats we need.

    • Hello there.

  • +1

    Got to Bunnings and buy

    Estwing Hammer
    Wiha screwdrivers
    NWS pliers
    Bahco wrench and saw
    Irwin clamps
    Kincrome toolbox, bits and keys
Empire spirit level and tape measure

    Thank me later plebs.

    • Thank me later plebs.

I can imagine someone from the SnapOn Tools forums laughing at your list, proposing a $6K list of equivalent items from here and signing-off exactly the same way.

      • Snap on is the tupperware equivalent of tools.

        • An interesting parallel universe example!

I actually have some 40+ year old hand-me-down Tupperware that's never missed a beat. When one of the lids cracked a couple of years ago, split I decided to contact Tupperware to see what would happen. It was the middle of the pandemic and they simply asked me to leave the broken part on the doorstep on a particular day. Sometime during the day, the local Tupperware rep swung past, collected it, and left a brand new replacement in its place.

I've never owned SnapOn gear myself, but I have a family member who uses them for his two automotive workshops. If anything even fails - or even starts to fail (eg excessive play in a pair of cutter or pliers) - then you just call the local rep and the truck turns up, sometimes the same day, with a replacement.

  • For those interested, the Amazon picture is deceiving - the top portion is the same as the bottom portion (i.e. you're not getting all of the tools in the photo, they are just showing you the same tools in a different layout, one with the box open and one with the box closed). Also $50 seems to be really overpriced for a mismatched selection of generic bottom of the barrel tools.

  • Could get better junk from kmart for half the price, screwdrivers look the same as kmart ones that will break within a few days of use, this would be a good kids starter kit but nothing more.
