Edit: Just received it and tested both joysticks, they're not 8 way

I have two of these and they have been great. I actually prefer using them instead of the pro controller.

    • -2

do you mean the old wii u pro controllers?

    • +4

      Do they work with pc

      • +5

Yes it does. For the best experience install [DS4Windows] (https://ds4-windows.com/) instead of using steam to edit the controller settings.

    • The rest of my family as well. I'm the odd one out. I use a PS4 controller connected to the 8bitdo adapter.

    • +1

That's insane, what do you like about it better than pro controller?

Can you turn on the switch with the power button on this controller like with pro?

      • +1

I personally didn't like these controllers, the joysticks only register 8 directions, so if you're moving a character (as an example) it's very "rigid".
Imagine running in a circle using WASD keys on the keyboard.
HOWEVER, for 20 bucks, it's definitely decent.

    • +4

I've got two of these and their a solid controller to give to your best friend or nephews when they come over and visit but the Pro-controller is a much better controller… for me the triggers on these don't feel as good as the pro controller.

  • +3

I have almost same controllers that just the colours of the analog sticks are the opposite and named Epiza. Maybe 2021 model?
I paid $19.99 each from Amazon 4 months ago. I'm very happy with them.

I think they are from same factory in china.

  • +2

These have lots of different names but same product. They sometimes have like a glitch that keeps pressing the joystick to the left when not touching them. They also aren't as responsive sometimes.
Source: I have 2 and have returned 2 before, it is a known issue that it doesn't work 100% of the time

  • I have one it's perfect

  • +1

I got two of them works great 👍🏽

  • +2

Is the left analog stick actually analog or just a digital pad with an analog looking stick?

    • I have this product and its a normal joystick. this controller is amazing value as a second controller.

    • +5

The joysticks only register 8 directions, so if you're moving a character (as an example) it's very "rigid".

    • I tested mine in the controller test screen on my switch. They're analog, but they tend to stay in each of the 8 direction positions for longer than they should (while slowly rotating the stick), which makes it feel a bit like it's only 8 position.

    White one is only $22.68.

And it's only 69c more. Nice!

  • Will this work with Nvidia Shield pro to play games?

    • I would like to know this too

    • I picked up one for my son last time it was up.
Worked with Chromecast with google tv wirelessly so quite possibly

  • +2

Don't forget if you have any other not-too-old consoles, you can just buy an adapter for this price (around $20) that lets you use other proper 1st party genuine controllers on Switch (and switch pro controller on your other consoles/PC).

So you don't have to buy multiple extra controllers for each.

  • +2

Only tested once by mine works ok on PC, but getting lag with chromecast with google tv.

  • Can i use it wid apple tv?

  • This or 8bit pro ?

    • +2

If you got spare cash then 8bit pro any day

      • 8BitDo Pro or the Nintendo Pro controller?

      • Thanks. I'm going to get one. It pairs with the switch oled without any problem?

    • How much do you really care? if i was using this controller as my main, I might consider forking out for a nicer one. Although at that price ($63 for the 8bit), id be asking myself why i'm not just spending the extra $15 to get the Nintendo Pro controller.

I got the generic one in this deal because it was always going to be a second controller.

  • Have one, works great and battery lasts forever.

  • +2

Have one, it's great but two minor gripes:
    1. Rumble is not HD and is a touch aggressive, so always have to turn it down/off - which is easy enough to do on the controller itself
    2. Develops crazy lag after a while and have to reset it using the pin, probably once a month. Instantly re-pairs. Inconvenient but not show stopping.

  • +3

Wasn't there a similar looking one that was tested apparently the analog stick is an 8 way dpad?

    • +2
    • +2

Thanks for that, that's bad! Always get Pro!

    • +1

I saw that review, but figured the overwhelming number of users not complaining meant it was a QA issue, bad batch or it doesn't matter in the majority of games people are playing?

I can confirm at least MY controller is 360. I can control both joysticks going all the way around eg. 1 o'clock, 2 o'clock etc.

      • The video appears to go around, but 'locks' at certain positions due to the 8 way joystick. Do you have a pro controller to compare against?

        • It locks at N, S, E, W directions like a commenter said below, but when I rotate between two of those there's no locking.

    • I commented somewhere else, but my testing shows they're analog but have a tendency to snap into position to any if the 8 directions. So I would say they're analog but not linear with the stick position.

      • more like analog but with some sort of interpolation between the 8 positions

  • How to make it work with PS4 or xbox series s ?

  • I believe the pre coupon price counts toward $39 spend delivery.

  • Arrrggg bought for 28.66 yesterday.. Hate myself

    • Buy this one and return the other for free?? Simple really

    • +2

Hit up Amazon customer support, they should be able to refund the difference

      • Thanks will do 👍🏻

  • Great price thanks!

  • Silly question, how do we get two of these?

  • +1

I bought 2 a year or so ago. Unpaired constantly and re-pairing was a bit of a struggle and not 100pc. The skeptic in me thinks Nintendo don't like these too much and updates the connections often.

    YMMV.

  • Can you only buy one at this price?

  • I’ve bought three of these from AliExpress. Work great on Retropie, Switch, Windows and macOS

    • +1

Cool good to know, I ordered one yesterday at $28 but will grab another at this price if it works on all those systems.

  • will this work in a tesla?

    • No, not wirelessly with Bluetooth. See Ali link below.

  • +1
    • +3

Have to pay GST on that

  • Can it work on an Shield pro too?

  • +5

Review looks like saying this controller only has 8-way joysticks, instead of "360° Omnidirectional joystick:
    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/customer-reviews/R28546KT5G7WOL…

  • Would this pair with a tablet to play emulator games?

  • +5

This doesn't look like a great experience. See this amazon review:

    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/aw/review/B09F32RYVB/R28546KT5G…

Instead, if you have any other console controllers from PS3/Xbox360 onwards, consider this adapter for a similar price:
Mayflash Magic-NS Wireless Controller Adapter for Nintendo Switch

8Bit Do make one as well, but it's got an extra frame of input lag compared with the Mayflash.

    • +1

Also 8bitdo does not support wired controller, and has to do special button combo to pair dualsense or dualshock4

    • +1

Will test it like the video and return it if it is only 8-way

      • +1

What's the issue with it being 8 way? Seems almost the same as 360?

        • +1

Just less accurate, and if you play FPS, your aim will sometime jumpy.
But some people have no problem with it, I think.

But I guess you got what you paid.

    • +1

How does it compare to this one?
      https://www.amazon.com.au/MAYFLASH-Bluetooth-Raspberry-Compa…

How's the input lag? I remember reading somewhere that the polling rate on the switch dock is really slow

      • +1

How does it compare to this one?

Someone else will have to comment. I've only tested the one I posted and the 8bit-do. And this one isn't in the spreadsheet i was looking where the community have measured them a lot of controllers and adapters.

How's the input lag? I remember reading somewhere that the polling rate on the switch dock is really slow

Yeah, it is. The switch can only do 125ms usb polling, so you'll have UP TO 8ms of lag after pressing the button, or about half a frame at 60fps with any USB controller or USB adapter.

On the other hand, if you use a wired controller with a mayflash adapter, you get a consistent input lag, which isn't susceptible to interference.
Personally I prefer this, I'm more bothered by the variability than the average latency.

        • +3

          thanks. bought one!
          i love my DS4 controller :)

            i love my DS4 controller :)

            +1 Same here.
Dual Shock 4 is my favorite controller (and I have a huge controller collection lol).

            • +1

@idonotknowwhy: My mayflash came today and is working a treat. Using DS4 on the switch is so good!

    • +2

Got the 8Bitdo one. Works great with the PS 4 controller. I play PC, PS4 and Switch games, and I can't stand the A button being on the right. At least with this, I can always have A or accept button on the bottom for all for all platforms.

      • +1

can't stand the A button being on the right

I hate going between Xbox/360+Dreamcast and then Switch/WiiU for this reason.

  • Can’t seem to get the turbo button to work…

  • Does this work with iPad?

  • Does this work with Apple TV??

  • Received mine from this deal and the joystick is not limited to 8 directions. I had a play in the calibration screen and it goes smoothly around the circle.

Edit: smooth may be a bit strong, as the joycons go smoothly all the way around, while the generic stops in the 4 main directions, but it goes all the way around between them.

  • +1

Bought one for $23 recently. Absolutely destroyed the wife and kids at mario kart. 100% recommend

  • Recieved mine and it's actually insane quality for $20. Love the turbo feature very useful for splatoon 3 😂

  • Thanks OP, been waiting for these to be discounted again. I kept missing out previously.

  • Can this work as a wireless controller in Windows? I've got it connected via Bluetooth but I can't get it to actually do anything…

    • You can't use it instead of a mouse, did you try to open a game that has controller support?

      • Yep! Various games including Forza.

        What I have found:

        • In bluetooth mode, Windows 11 detects it as a "wireless gamepad" but the nothing actually works
        • In wired mode (connected to the PC using the USB-C cable), Windows 11 detects it as an Xbox 360 controller. It works like this :)

I was hoping to use it wirelessly via bluetooth, but no luck so far!

        • I just tested mine, I see what you mean. I think this will only work cabled on PC.

  • +1

I received mine today… and tested it out playing some games.

The D-pad is not as good as pro controller, it feels a bit sticky when playing tetris 99.

I also tried playing mario kart, works great for this, it is responsive, feels very similar to pro controller. The turning almost seems too sharp since the joystick locks onto NSEW (it is very obvious when you calibrate the joystick).

I'm happy with it for the price I paid.

You cannot turn on the switch with home button.

    • EDIT: you can actually turn on switch with the home button. Just need to press it once. I usually hold home on pro controller.

  • Ended up returning it because my left joystick seems to jam. Also on the calibration screen the joystick does not go around smoothly in a circle - it seems to hover around NSEW before jumping to the desired position.
