      Cpu's supposedly will last 10 years and above unless you go crazy voltage. Any CPU such as i7 920's are still alive and have lived beyond the cringebaby ACCC.

        But it's GPU launch they already launched cpus and they all have igpus on them… Also the igpus on the 7000 series aren't good.

          The iGPU in the 7000 series is designed for basic business, diagnostic and headless type setups (i.e. virtualisation servers).

          The Radeon iGPU in the 5000 series is much more capable but still lags behind dedicated GPUs, but for a media player it would be sufficient.

            @digitalaxon: Yeah the iGPU (RDNA2) in the 7000 series are super basic and for gamers basically only useful for initial PC and driver set up.

            Having said that, the RDNA2 graphics compute units (CU) are individually about 75% faster than the Vega in 5600G - its just that they seem bad because AMD only included 2 CU in the 7000 series, while the 5600G has 7 Vega CU.

        • The Ryzen 7000 iGPU's are 2 CU's for monitor support, the Ryzen 7000G CPU's will be like the Ryzen 6000 mobile RX680M.

        RDNA3 are dedicated graphics cards only and not CPUs. AMD have already announced their Ryzen 7000 series CPU a while back which contain iGPUs.

    • is it for gaming/productivity and what form factor do you want to go with? eg atx, matx, itx? any special requirements?

        I've built 2 PCs with this CPU. You can do gaming with it but not GPU heavy titles. It's perfectly fine on productivity (i.e. Office) and media consumption. Also if you like emulation gaming it's solid.

        For best cost and options go with MATX, Normal PSUs (450W should be more than enough) and normal minitower/desktop cases. No special requirements, it runs at 65W and doesn't generate much heat, normal out of the box cooler is fine.

        If you are going with a used Motherboard however just check it has BIOS flashback and update it to the latest BIOS first. Anything recent (since Ryzen 5000 released) should already have a BIOS that supports this. If you have an old AMD AM4 socket Mobo do check the BIOS update page as AMD did add support for this CPU on older motherboards in the last year.

        ASUS B450M-A II is fine (I use this one). Just note this is limited to PCI-E 3.0 but again for most use cases this is not an issue.

      You really don't need to look far, any B series motherboard will do fine for you. I also have the 5600G chose the cheapest B450 motherboard that existed at the time (Asus B450M-A II) and went with that. The max power draw under normal circumstances in about 50W CPU only, and under full CPU + iGPU load peaks at 80W (you'll never run into this in actual situtaions) so all but the crappiest of all motherboard VRMs should handle it

      tldr; select cheapest B450 motherboard that has your required IO and you're done

  • $169 plus a shipping cost seems to be the going price for a 5600G at lots of places now.

    Its what I paid for one that got delivered today from someone else. I decided that at that price I can add a few more years life to my Asrock Deskmini X300 that I originally built with a 3200G in it.

    I'd like to upgrade to take advantage of NVMe + other advances (PCIe, USB-C) etc, but not in a rush as I'm saving.

    What's the go best CPU w/graphics? Only reason is I like to have that fallback when GPU fails. I like the rep of Zen.

      As a i5/i7 4gen owner who just bought a 5600G (and prefers iGPU as well).

      My thoughts:
      1. I will easily be able to kick my next purchase down to 2025/26.
      2. This will allow me to skip the entire period where DDR5 is expensive, non competitive (vs DDR4) and in a period of fast development. I don't want to be stuck holding worthless slow DDR5 when the time comes to resell.
      3. I can sell off the Intel 4gen/DDR3 now while it still has some residual value. There will only be more and more 4gen to 7gen Dell/HP/Lenovo ex-business units on the used market from now on.
      4. Also avoids the price insanity of LGA1700 motherboards (which won't realistically hit the bottom until November 2023), and the bending issue on LGA1700.

    • The problem of going with one of these 5000 series Ryzen CPUs with THE IGP is that you'll lose out on being able to use PCI-e 4.0. They only support 3.0. Where as if you go with the Ryzen 5600 (non "g" sku) you'll be able to.

        Most people going with CPU and a cheap MB like this is unlikely to ever need or notice speed differences even if it were PCI-e 2.0, let alone 4.0.

          I completely agree, but the poster said they wanted to take advantage of all the new tech advancements in PCI-e, Nvme, USB-C etc. Was just letting them know what they'd be missing out on from their wish-list.

    • Probably best to go for an Intel build if that's the case. Any of their CPU without F in the name has an iGPU.

      AMD CPUs with graphics sacrifice cores/CPU performance compared to other CPU at the same price point since the 5000 series CPUs graphics are quite good to use as a GPU replacement which is really not what you are looking for.

      • So why is Intel able to include iGPU and not suffer performance hits as AMD's seem to?

  • I would buy a 7000 series AMD CPU with the same speed as the older 5800x if they make one using the more efficient manufacturing process now and release a CPU at 50W max power consumption. I find these speed increases with massive power increases a shitty way to move the CPU roadmap forward. I will wait for the 7000 series APU's to see if they have managed to cap power usage with decent enough performance in an ALL IN ONE CPU GPU design.

    • Yes, there are some people who want the latest fastest whatever, even if it uses a kilowatt of power and requires a zillion noisy fans to keep it cool.

      Then there's the rest of us who would be happier with newer technology delivering a bit less than the absolute best performance but using less power and being quieter. And the CPU manufacturers have the products that do that. But they've decided/found that they don't get promoted in the specialist media, they don't get sold in retail stores, and the name manufacturers of PCs are happy to buy all of them they can get to put in business computers to sit unobtrusively and quietly on peoples desks.

      When it comes to the retail market they can't charge premium prices and make big profits unless it boasts absolute best performance. But business computer manufacturers are willing to pay premium prices for parts that let them build compact quiet business computers. And laptops. So that's where they sell them.

      Me, I'll be turning my new Ryzen 5600G down from 65W to 45W in the BIOS. It'll be a bit slower, but its still fast enough for me, and its still faster and quieter than the 3200G running at 65W its replacing.

      • Can you reduce the power usage via bios by under volting a 7600x to a 5600x performance threshold so it uses less power than a 5600x and has the same speed?

          A 4 GHz 65W processor doesn't run at 4 GHz and consume 65W all the time. That'd be catastrophic for battery life in a laptop, and noisy in a desktop. How fast a CPU can run depends on the voltage you give it, but then you've got to keep it cool. So they have p-states. Progressively lower speeds and the correspondingly lower voltage that are enough for them to run at that speed. If your computer isn't working harder the operating system automatically drops them back to the lower p-state that's enough to do the amount of work you need to get done.

          So the easy way for a manufacturer to turn a 65W CPU into a 45W part, they just configure it so the fastest p-state is locked off. It can't reach as high a speed, but it also can't use as much power. The BIOS reads what p-states the CPU is configured for at bootup and tells the driver in the operating system. Its a matter of the motherboard manufacturer to decide whether there's enough customers who want to turn a faster chip into a slower less power consuming quieter one that they offer that feature in the BIOS.

          The BIOS in my motherboard does. And the Ryzen 5600G is enough faster because of improved chip technology and more cores than the 3200G that even with its 65W p-state locked off it is faster.

          Whether a 7 series chip with its fastest p-state disabled would still be faster than a 5 series chip is doubtful because they're made using the same 7 nm technology. And whether motherboard manufacturers think people buying the latest fastest premium product want it is up to them. Maybe later when the 7 series isn't the maximum performance product in the line.

          You can undervolt and underclock any CPU yourself to get the effect, but I understand that usually disables the automatic p-state control, and it runs at that maximum (but slower) speed all the time.

  • It must be over now, I checked this arvo and it was still low and then ummed and ahhhed and came back on now and everywhere seems to be $199, even umart.
