    Good find!

    Same clearance with the iPhone 13 Pro 512GB $1799 and 1TB $1999

    • reckon you should make a separate deal for those!

    • +2

Is that even a good price for last gen iPhones? Seems a bit pricey

      • Yeah not great tbh. But the price on the mini tho, not bad considering there's no 14 mini :((

  • +1

can try a price beat at officeworks though it does say clearance so likely will get rejected - quickest way call 1300 OFFICE

    • it's very hard to find stores with stock

  • now, that's a crazy price

  • Can these be jailbroken?

    • +10

problem is the ios that's installed

    • +1

Jail breaking isn’t a thing any more on apple for may reasons but mostly because all the things you needed unlocking for are now implemented in iOS.

The other is advanced encryption is now not just a software level (that was the jailbreak flaw) but also hardware level with ID, screen and battery all contributing to iOS security.

      • can you install modded/cracked apps without jail breaking?

I haven't been in the scene since iPod Touch (1st generation)

        • +3

You can but it's PITA resigning every few days/week

        • +3

can you install modded/cracked apps without jail breaking

Yes, if you have access to the Apple Enterprise Developer program.

  • Can apple store price match?

    • Apple store said they only price match upto 10% off their price.

      Bad comment

  • I can get this or iPhone 14 pro (128GB) for $1689.99 at Costco?

    • +17

      Good for you!

      • Which should I go for?

        • -1

Both fantastic phones, the OP is an iPhone 13 mini though - 14 pro is vastly different.

        • 128 GB is not enough. Especially, you are to take photos and videos with the 14 pro. And the size of both devices is drastically different. Go with what suit you ergonomically.

          • +1

@toyboy: I think 128GB not being enough is totally subjective depending on your use. I use Google cloud for everything so I basically only need room for Apps & nothing else. I don't play games etc so its mainly just social media apps, banking apps etc. Out of the 256GB I have on my iPhone, I only use about 30GB of it and it likely won't grow much beyond that as additional pics/vids go straight to Google Cloud and are deleted from the phone once they're backed up to it

          • +2

@toyboy: unless you pay for iCloud then 128 is more than enough, and all the photos are on all the devices. $4 a month is well worth it for me

        • +2

          Which should I go for?

14 pro if you can afford it…

          • +3

@jv: Well I’m leaning towards pro 14. Will be using it as my main camera for upcoming trip. Plus I can claim TRS.

I was think 128GB because I have iCloud subscription already so will I even need the extra storage?

            • @first in line:

Will be using it as my main camera for upcoming trip.

Well you've answered your own question then…

Camera on 14 is significantly better than the 12.

You'll also get 2 more years of iOS support.

              • +1

@jv: Worth noting it’s the 13 in OP not the 12 and that uses more or less the exact same chip as the 14 (non pro) so might not be any difference in length of iOS support, which itself isn’t necessarily based on years since release/last sold. Maybe an extra year in the 14 pro, maybe not.

        • +2

          landline

        • +3

Whilst I agree with other people’s posts, your choice may come down to the size of phone you want. The reason I went back to iphones after more than a decade away was the mini size of iPhone 12 mini. I dislike using phone two handed and so the mini size was enough to bring me back. I got a smaller storage option and iCloud (after years using Onedrive) and couldn’t be happier.

          • @tolchok: yeh this is the real reason why I jumped on the first mini. I really liked my old iphone 5S
and being able to put a phone into mens jeans without looking like an appendage

    • Get this one, skip this and wait til next year to trade in for the iphone 15,

  • +1

    How bad is the battery?

    • -1

Get the normal version. Its better and not any much bigger than mini, and if pro is too expensive for ya.

      • +1

Bought a Pro Max previously and returned it, the battery was not really great, but the phone's weight tho…

        • +1

Wow, then mini is going to be worst based on your experience.

        • +2

Yep iPhones are heavy. The new ones are lighter, but still heavy compared to the average android. It seems to grant higher durability though.

      • +2

Gonna have to argue that its way bigger but also heavier than the mini.

      • +3

Get the normal version. Its better and not any much bigger than mini

I disagree, the regular version is much bigger than the mini:

        https://m-cdn.phonearena.com/images/reviews/238401-image/iPh…

      • +1

The normal one is heaps bigger actually. I have a mini and its probably a bit small. It fits in any pocket and become unnoticeable though!

    • +1

Battery is very good in my opinion. Unless you play a lot of games during the day, otherwise I'd say it should be more than enough for most people. I've been using mine for half a year, no complaint.

  • Had the 12 until it broke and went back to Telstra, anyone with a 13 mini have feedback on battery and cameras?

    Also recommends on colours?

    • +3

Used it for a month. Battery holds pretty well for day to day use and lasts for the full day for normal use (excluding games etc). But was very hard to use such a small screen after getting used to of larger screens. So finally gave up and moved to 13 Pro which is perfect balance in terms of screen size and convenience of use.
But thats a personal preference, otherwise 13 mini is a great phone if you are ok to use small screen.

    • +1

13 mini battery is quite limited. The screen is too small.

      • +1

I have the 12 mini 256gb and the batt is a 86% and I use it for long periods and then drop it on the charger. The 12 pro max was charge once a day, use all day and have 20-30% batt left at bedtime.

I’ll replace the batt on the mini when it gets to 80% and keep until the iPhone 15 with USB. Love the pocket size and same power & functionality but yeah, keep chargers close but it’s not the sea breaker for such a pocket friendly size!

The SE3 is going to be the MINI replacement when it’s released. If priced like the SE 1/2 then $800AU it’s going to be very popular for iPhone budget friendly buyers into the future

        • Current SE is a 3rd gen. If the next gen is the mini form factor, I do hope they keep the screen as OLED

    • +2

Camera is good, I personally love the size (coming from 11). Battery life you do need to be mindful of usage, particularly if out all day. I use a battery pack in that scenario which does diminish some of the size benefits (but only if I know I’ll be out for more than 10 hours and not near a charger)

    • +2

Been using this model for half a year now, battery is great. Smaller screen means smaller power consumption, unless you are playing a lot of intensive games during the day, otherwise I don't see any problems. The camera is decent with the fish eye lens in addition to conventional one.

    • +4

Cameras are great but there is only ultrawide and standard, so no optical zoom. Battery life is ok unless you're on your phone a lot. I've never run mine out in a day, according to my phone my average screen on time is 2h30m and I usually have about 50% battery when I go to bed.

I would say it has maybe 5 hours screen on time then for average use. The iphone 13mini has a much better battery life than the 12mini if that is what you had before.

Like people have said before the screen is smaller, still larger than the SE, but with a physically smaller phone. The thing is I would say it's a great phone if you really want a small phone, otherwise the standard size would suit the average person better.

  • Thought about it for my dad… but hes getting old and a small screen probably not going to help…

    • There is always the accessibility settings for older folks. Increase the font size should help. Smaller devices should be good for them in terms of portability.

    • Same here but both parent eyes not that good, hence need a bigger screen, so at least normal 13 but pro is just too expensive …

      • How about the 14 Plus? Probably around the same price as the regular 13 Pro.

  • Still running a 7 Plus, is this similar in screen size? Sister has a 13 Pro Max and it felt quite large and a little weighty

    • I changed from 7 Plus to 13 mini about half year ago. The screen size is a lot smaller but also a lot sharper with the latest technology. You will feel weird at first with the small screen size, but soon will get used to it. I like the portability of my 13 mini, but maybe not for anybody. Try to check this out first in the store, see if you are comfortable holding it.

      • +1

The mini is great for a casual out and about user. The only downside is when you are home sitting on the couch as it’s just too small

        • +1

It needs pairing with an iPad for couch use for the best experience. It’s fine, but when you no longer need the size and you have two hands free bigger is an improvement.

  • Very very very tempting especially the 512gb config.

  • Looks like I am going to cancel my Amazon order now… https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/724832

    Go Harvey go I guess?

    • -1

For 50 odd dollars and ease of return I'd go Amazon
      (profanity) gerry

      • +1

Problem is, my Amazon order has been backordered since September, yes you are right, 2 months! And I actually ordered the 256gb, and it is more expensive than Harvey's $999 @ 512gb. So no brainer to me. Going to pick it up later today, its confirmed.

    • Yeah, I did likewise earlier today, sensible decision I think under the circumstances.

$949 for the 13 mini 256GB (22% off $1219 RRP) vs $916 ($944 Amazon sale price - 3% discounted gift card) for the 128GB model still on backorder from Amazon was close enough for me, and better than the previous best deal for the 256GB of $1005 ($1036 - 3%), particularly since Amazon hasn’t replenished stocks since the 14 series came out 1.5 months ago and OW, JB, etc. also seem to have run dry.

I was just a bit miffed that Macquarie Marketplace no longer seems to have HN 3% discount gift cards available, since paying only $921 would’ve made it even sweeter. Macquarie still shows HN on their website and I was able to find HN cards on MM by searching, but kept getting an error when I tried to pay.

No other obvious discounts/cashbacks available AFAIK (HN doesn’t even seem to earn any QF/VA FF point via their respective shopping portals), but faffing around any longer would’ve been silly given how mini-scule stock of these models appears to be at retailers other than Apple.

      • Well, after the glitch I experienced yesterday, the HN gift card is visible on MM once again in the Macquarie Bank app, though I haven’t tested payment (no longer require the card). Diddled me out of $30 :(

  • Awesome! Way cheaper than my 12 mini 256GB from a year ago.

  • +1

$999 for a 512 gb iPhone seems like a very good deal even if this is a year old.

Pretty sure my iPhone 8 256 gb cost me something like ~$1369 when new or something.

  • +1

I just got the 512gb pink - thanks so much op!
I'm selling my 14 pro brick for this (as crazy as it sounds i regretted my upgrade from the mini and now have a way to go back and not be out of pocket)

    • Really? So not always the bigger the better?

      • yep! I got the 14 Pro for $800 ($1000 off vodafone deal at Apple) so I will hopefully sett it for around $1,500 and be OK

Its a lovely phone, but I got caught up in the hype of the new phone marketing - camera is same as per the 13 line, battery seems a bit worse than my husbands 13 pro - and its very heavy

Looking forward to picking up the 13 mini shortly and having a light feel phone again - as a bonus its 512Gb while my 14 pro is 256!

    • Do you have a screenshot of the Harvey Norman price? Or possible a copy of a receipt with the $999 price? It would help a lot if you could upload or DM it to me

  • +3

Pulled the trigger. Finally daring to switch from Android.

    • I'm contemplating the same. Reckon I can continue on using google services and not be forced to switch to Apple cloud? e.g. Google Photos, Drive, Sheets etc.

      • +2

You don’t have to use iCloud. I’ve been using iPhones for the last 8 years and still use google photos

      • +2

The only thing I use iCloud for is to backup the phone config itself, everything else you can just use Google fine.

    • -1

      Have 2 phones

    • +1

Do you have a screenshot of the Harvey Norman price? Or possible a copy of a receipt with the $999 price? It would help a lot if you could upload or DM it to me

  • Thanks OP. Ordered a Red 512gb

  • Grabbed a white 512gb and expecting the order to get cancelled by Harvey Norman. I'll keep my hopes up for now.

    • why would they cancel? received email says mine is ready for pickup.

      • They cancelled me before on a good deal switch game and just said there is no stock.

        • +2

Don't bee too nervers , you will get yours this time :)

        • +3

just got pick-up ready confirmation from HN so you should be good too!

      • Do you have a screenshot of the Harvey Norman price for the 512GB model? Or possible a copy of a receipt with the $999 price? It would help a lot if you could upload or DM it to me

    • They cancelled and refunded me as 9:17am the next day, called it baby!

      • That's ridiculous. They should have ordered one in for you.

      • That blows/sucks! I wasn’t counting my mini either until I got the email yesterday it had shipped (wasn’t available to pick up nearby)—the case shipped very quickly but the phone itself was stuck on ‘Processing’ for much of the day, so I was getting concerned HN might’ve oversold in the OzB rush.

        • Click and collect would be the safest way.

          • @cloudie9: That’s always my preference but it wasn’t in stock anywhere near me unfortunately.

      • Did they confirm your order before cancelling or was it being reviewed by their online security team?

The latter seems like a rues to be honest.

  • +1

HODL till Type-C since iPhone 8. Now I get used to Android actually…

    • +2

But this is the last mini series… so no point HODL… unless you don't care the mini.

      • +1

There will be a new iPhone SE to replace it soon enough

        • Rumours are the next SE will use the XR body for the design. Maybe after the XR body they’ll switch to the Mini body.

          • @Ghost47: 6" screen on the XR.

I can't see them putting more than a 5" screen on the SE because normal iphone is 6" screen

Think they can fit 5" screen on the current iphone SE (which is a 4.7" screen), it just needs 1080p

They got bad sales for SE 2022 because people expected a little bit more of an update than just the CPU.

SE 2022 at $700 is a bit of a disappointment.

            When is next SE? 2024?

          • @Ghost47: It's already being falsified IIRC
