          • @stumo: Yes of course.

@BlinkyBill: Most machines without NVMe slots can't boot from NVMe drives - the necessary bits are usually missing from the BIOS.

Thanks for confirming this particular machine is ok đź‘Ť

            • @BlinkyBill: @BlinkyBill: hi mate, can you recommend something similar to work with 2.5 SSD? It seems your item only works with nVME or M2. Do you need to change BIOS for boot? Thanks

              • +2

@zozuc: I don't follow, the z640 already comes with 2.5in SSD, just replace it. To get the nvme (on pcie adaptor) I just installed and it worked.

  • Anyone selling the 2.5 inch 4bay thing at the front of the case??

I have a blank sled i can swap with you + cash. Let me know :)

  • Has anyone tried changing the fans in the 2.5 bay?

    • is it noisy?

      • Very. The reviews of it on Amazon indicate it’s a common problem with them.

People in the previous deal disconnected them. But I’d personally like to the air flow since the case only has two back fans.

        • +1

its got a fan at the front of the case where the GPU holder is, id just disconnect the loud fans on the 4bay 2.5 unit and monitor the temps

had a look on Amazon & Ebay for replacement but not sure if the pins connector match. The ones in the Icy Dock are 3 pins where as the replacement says 2 pins and can't quite tell from the picture.

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/195002300378

leaving them disconnected for the moment.

  • Does DisplayPort -> HDMI provide audio?

I’ve tried DisplayPort -> DVI -> HDMI with no luck. I know DVI doesn’t officially support audio, but it’s always worked for me.

Going to try this, but don’t want to waste my money https://amzn.asia/d/d6Mw6Tq

    • Don’t think HDMI (or even DP) audio is possible. There’s a “stereo” input on the GPU with nothing connected.

      • DVI -> HDMI audio works.

    • I'd be surprised if that doesn't work. I have a Quadro K2200, which is a GTX 750 Ti type card, and here DP to HDMI adapter gives me audio to my TV.

    • Yes DisplayPort carries audio just like HDMI, and the audio works through HDMI adaptors.

Use this cable though - https://www.amazon.com.au/Plugable-DisplayPort-Supports-disp… - because the one you linked doesn't support 4K60.

DVI has no audio capability - so DVI anywhere in the chain will mean no audio at the other end.

      • DVI does unofficially carry audio. I’m using it right now. The ground pins are used.

        • I should have said "DVI doesn't officially have audio capability"…

The audio over DVI is only on some cards and it's none standard. Great if it works, but don't expect it.

  • Got mine today. Does anyone else's have a dodgy fan (bad bearings) in the hard drive enclosure? Undecided if I should disconnect the fan or just return the whole computer. Cooling wise it would be fine with the SSD, but if I were to install a spinning disk it would need the fans.

There are more stocks coming back with voucher "PNOV12" to get AU $412.72 with ebayplus.

  • Showing as in stock but price has gone up.

For all who are gaming on these and are looking for some more performance from the quadro M6000, Have a look at Maxwell BIOS tweaker (available to download from Techpowerup's site).
I increased the core clock to a stable 1329MHZ and VRAM to a stable 3550MHZ (7.1GHZ effective) resulting in noticeably better performance, also raised the temp limit to prevent throttling.

Changing the thermal paste (with Arctic MX-5) didn't really help temperatures but be sure to set a custom fan curve in MSI afterburner.

    • Wow thats a decent overclock. Thanks for the info. I'm running mine in SLI lol, but may as well give this a shot too.

What did you raise the temp limit to?

    • +1

      I used this guide:
      https://www.overclock.net/threads/overclocking-quadro-m6000-…

Got a free circa 12% speed upgrade!
      3D Mark went from 5200 to 5900.

But only on one of my cards. The other 2 cards I have wouldn't take that OC, nowhere near. Hmmm.

    • Turbo unlock on all cores. Is it possible too?

  • +1

I got mine today. It has been dropped on the corner. Pretty flimsy box and wasn't packed well. Literally can't open the case

    • oh no, are you sending it back?

      • +2

Nah was able to bend it back. Works that's the main thing.

    • Got mine today and it won't boot. 5 beeps and no picture. Reseated ram and video card and no change.

  • Was gonna post a 2696 V3 for $21 delivered but whatever. Spent 5 minutes making that post for it to be taken down in 10 seconds.

    • How it works with 2696 V3 for $21 delivery?

        • +1

Looks like a scam, or they forgot to put a zero on the end.

I still bought one though, worth a punt lol.

          • @stumo: Yeah PayPal paid with amex I should be safe lol.

Mine has been shipped apparently. I ask them when will you ship.

Maybe the wife is taking over sales this week lol.

Be sure to video the unboxing

This benchmarks 25k compared to the stock Xeon at about 10k.

            Mooor powowower

They have a lot of 15.05 dollar buck items. Bizzare.

        • +1

Did you receive your CPU yet?

My order sat there doing nothing for 2 weeks then today I got a shipping notification. I wonder what will arrive?

          • @stumo: Yep got shipping notification too. Be sure to do an unboxing video.

            Think it might be dodgy.

ETA is like Jan 13 2023

@stumo: Ok it was a total scam lol.

Time to submit a claim. Auspost.

Thanks for your enquiry about the status of item LH731174252CN. We can clarify this situation for you and advise you of your next steps.

The last two letters in the tracking number you gave us indicate it was sent from China. They're one of the few countries that send us a digital record of the parcel details for customs purposes, so I'm able to confirm that this item was not addressed to yourself and has been delivered as addressed.

The contents description (soda siphon) and weight details (1.5kg) provided by China Post were very different from what you ordered.

We believe this is a fraudulent transaction. We recommend you forward this email to PayPal or your credit card company to dispute the payment and request a full refund. Please also check that the sender has just not provided the incorrect tracking number.

Although this is frustrating news, we hope the information today is helpful. As this will now become a negotiation between you and your payment company, there’s no more practical assistance we can offer, but if you have more questions let us know and your case will automatically reopen so we can assist you further.

            • @Korban Dallas: Thanks for reminding me. I've just checked my order and I'm trying AliExpress disputes process. Will see how that goes.

I paid with PayPal so will use that as a last resort dispute, well CC chargeback will be last resort.

My tracking number clearly shows it was delivered to the wrong state, let alone wrong suburb etc. Interestingly AliExpress tracking shows it as delivered to my address. WTF. No wonder it has a bad rep if even its own processes are corrupt. Fortunately AusPost website shows the actual tracking, not some made up BS.

              • @stumo: Yeah he has been getting the same reviews. All the same issues as us.

AliExpress should be able to cover us. If not PayPal will.

              • @stumo: AliExpress gave me a full refund.

                • @Korban Dallas: Im still waiting. Seller offered to re-send the package. No way I was accepting that so rejected it and asked AliExpress to "step in". Ali suggested full refund. But "seller rejected" that. Like wtf how can the seller "reject" a refund after they have already admitted providing false shipping info.

  • Any suggestions the cheapest place to buy screws for attaching SSDs into the bay trays?

    • not sure where to buy but I had some spare from previous builds which came in handy.

    • +1

You can safely just use tape for SSDs đź‘Ť

      • Don’t think that will be strong enough. Sliding the SSD into the caddy is tight.

        • Vhb tape. You will need a crowbar to remove it. Do not recommend

    • +1

To install into the Icy Dock drive bay? In general there are 2 types of screws with PC. M3 which is the finer one, that's the one you need. The other one is called 6-32, these are a bit larger and you find that one (not with the HP) for example when mounting a graphics card or WIFI PCIe card. You can buy these screws online, in packs of 100 if you like from places such as eBay or AliExpress. If you are in a pinch, ask a computer store. They usually come with cases, so anyone that builds PCs will have them.

  • +2

Got mine today :) Installing updates and some games to give it a good test run. I didn't think you could build more solid than Z440, but this one is even heavier and more solid.

Anyone figured out replacement fans? The Z440 can use a standard 4-pin connector fan, but this one has two fans with a 6-pin cable.

Likely will put in an optical drive instead of that Icy Dock bay, don't like the wire mess it makes. I bought a 2x6-pin to 1x8-pin power adapter seeing this one uses a 1x6-pin to 1x8-pin adapter, might be a bit on the safer side?

    • I also want to remove Icy Dock bay. Is it possible just to use SSD drive to boot without using Icy Dock bay? Do you know what is the item number for plastic black cover if I remove Icy Dock bay? Thanks

      • +2

Yes you can use the SSD without Icy Dock bay. Look at the two 3.5 bays that face towards the case cover. They are labelled 0 and 1. On my machine, bay 0 had a 2.5" adapter installed, so that's what you should use. The boot drive should always be connected to SATA 0.

Then look at the bottom of the case, you should see 2 black SATA cables, labelled 0 and 1 as well. Now unplug and remove the ICY Dock. Also remove that SATA cable harness with 4 SATA ports. Then connect the 2 black SATA cables so that cable 0 goes into SATA port 0 and cable 1 goes into SATA port 1.

I installed a 5.25" SATA optical drive instead of the Icy Dock and it looks much neater now :)

        Hope the explanation makes sense.

        • Hi, it is very clear explanation! I will follow your steps tomorrow. Can you suggest link for 5.25 SATA optical drive? Thanks again for quick response.

          • +2

@zozuc: New most shops have them. PLE for example: https://www.ple.com.au/Products/620803/asus-drw-24d5mt-24x-b… and PC Case Gear: https://www.pccasegear.com/products/33966/lg-gh24nsd1-24x-sa…

You don't need screws as the case is tool less. Then you can also remove those Molex adapters, the ones dangling at the top of the case going into the Icy Dock drive bay. Just cleans up everything and looks neater :)

            • +1

@PhilsComputerLab: Thanks. I try to find blank optical drive cover but your solution is better and looks neater. You are legend mate.

              • +1

@zozuc: @PhilsComputerLab: hi, I manage to change optical drive and it looks neat! I follow your suggestions to connect 2 black SATA cables so that cable 0 goes into SATA port 0 and cable 1 goes into SATA port 1. However, I cannot start computer. It had red light and bip bip. Do I need to change anything in BIOS? I did not install Windows in SSD yet.

  • Probably a long shot but anyone keen on moving theirs on? Would love one for CAD.

    • +2

There are two more left for $336 32GB, M6000 12GB (but without SSD), which is a crazy price if you're going to put a NVME in it anyway!

Really wish the discount voucher worked with PayPal payment rather than zippay.

          • @RSmith: Some people have had luck using the voucher and paying for the entire order using a gift card from Shopback. But risky. I’d check the deal’s comments to see if anyone has recently done it.

  • Anyone able to get csgo working. Button in steam doesn't work.

    • I get 150-300 fps at 1080p with all a default quality settings.

      • Some software must have been causing issues. Did a reinstall.

        4k I am getting around 150 fps

  • +3

Another 54 are back is stock. This looks like it will be the last.

  • Just bought an P3 crucial Nvme drive

    Getting 3,490 mb/s read and 1908 mb/s write

Cloning the drive was a piece of piss and plug and play

  • Stumbled across it while searching for a GPU upgrade for my Z620. The 12GB Quadro and 32GB of RAM at the price were too good to pass up so the Z620 which has served me well for nearly a decade will be going to my other half.

The Z640 Arrived yesterday, so far so good however the right foot rail is missing (another buyer had the same issue from the previous batch) which I found peculiar. Also noticed there is no air duct near the CPU, maybe HP didn't offer them with certain specs but I'll need to confirm. The fans in the Icy-Dock were noisy as hell so I was happy to discover they can easily unplugged.

Installed a Wifi card, ripped out the fiber ethernet and now waiting for my NVMe M2 and PCIe adaptor.
