Cheapest nbn While Away for Prolonged Period

Need to work overseas for at least 2 months, whats the best way to pay the least for NBN while still keeping it for IoT devices like CCTV?

Any provider that allow "freeze" or "hybernate" period?

don't mind a 12mb speed with 2gb data quota if it's going to reduce my NBN significantly…

Australia post will do it for $40/mo . Flip does it for $34/month

  • 12/1 $59 on Aussie Broadband
    25/10 $69 on Aussie Broadband

Small price really. I'd go something a bit more reliable so you don't have issues if you want to view your CCTV.

1 Month Free Unlimited nbn (New & Relocating Customers, Save up to $149; Includes 250/25 and 1000/50 Mbps) @ Aussie Broadband.

Launtel allow you to pause your nbn, charge by the day and have a 1 week free trial.

  • Use your Mobile carrier's data? (aka 5G)

Launtel lets you pause the service through their portal, with no reconnect/disconnect charges. Your credit will remain there until you come back and unpause.

  • Hmm, you could use a belong sim in a smart modem but unsure if you will have problems with the CCTV access. Maybe dodo $10 for first month and go from there to save a dime

  • But more telecom is the cheapest besides flip I think at present, Telstra stopped doing their $1 for 2 months promos https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/727108

  • thanks guys. lots of good idea. unfortunately i am using deco m5 router/modem.. so i couldn't use mobile data. unless someone can suggest an ingenuous way…. :D

Optus 4G Wi-Fi Modem for $34. The Modem is locked, but it has a 28-day plan that you can use for the first month.

Once the plan has expired, you can just top it up again with a bit more data for the second month for $30 dollars. But this works out to $64 for 2 months, meaning it's not much cheaper than going for an NBN plan.

Launtel does exactly what you need

  • Well with Optus one can put there NBN plan on hold, im sure applies to other providers, I think was up ro 8 months obviously no internet while on hold but then maybe take a cheap simcard plan in the meantime with shaped unlimited data, usually speed shaped to 1.5mbps but seems fine for streaming services not sure will hold for CCTV streaming 🤔
