Bought 2x$500 ultimate teen card, no points whatsoever……Staff advise me to wait for 14 days

  • +1

Is it me or they are really targeting people that assume to receive the 20x points but they did not….

Reason I think this is because they ran a similar promo in October (why they running again that soon??) where people had to also call up for missing points

    • -1

this sounds like a scam if we have to have an effort calling them and waiting 14 business days ( 3 weeks ) just to receive the points. I think their system only add the points for each $100 gc or below. For $100 above, they need to add it manually which is crazy

  • bought 2x$500 to use at office works and they wouldnt work, ended up going to jb hifi and worked fine.

    • Bought 2x$500 what card?

      Worked for me at OW

      • ultimate gift for home, blue one

        • Interesting…. I bought the same one on Saturday, and it worked at Officeworks about 20 minutes later.

Check out this post by WookieMonster

Make sure you get the Visa version and not the EFTPOS.

        • Ok then you got the old version… That won't work. You need the new one that's the credit card version with cvv

          • @Poor Ass: Mine had thr cvv on the back, even when i scanned the qr code it came up with officeworks.

            • +1

@david6509: There are a number of potential reasons you were not able to purchase at Officeworks:

              • The Officeworks staff member was trying to redeem them as though someone was presenting the barcode of an Officeworks gift cards (which will not work).

              • The Officeworks staff member keyed in the wrong amount to redeem from the card.

              • The EFTPOS terminal you were at is not in the whitelist of EFTPOS terminals in Blackhawk Network’s systems. The way in which Ultimate gift cards work (for instore purchases, anyway) is that they use unique identifiers in the EFTPOS terminal to determine whether you are at an eligible location. If Officeworks forgot to tell Blackhawk Network about the EFTPOS terminal you were using, Blackhawk Network will think that EFTPOS terminal was not at an Officeworks location and and therefore decline the transaction.

              • The gift card’s balance was not actually available for use when you were at Officeworks, but by the time you went to JB Hi-Fi, the balance was available for use.

              • @WookieMonster: Checked the balance on the gift cards before i had left home. The amount on the eftpos machine was showing as $500 but as soon as i would swipe it would ask for the pin with no option to pick credit. This officeworks store has only been open for a couple months so maybe they dont have the correct eftpos machines.

                • @david6509: Instore Saving, online Credit?

                  • @Neoika: Never had the option to pick. As soon as i would swipe the card it would ask for the pin.

                • @david6509: Did you enter the PIN when prompted by the EFTPOS terminal? If you didn’t, you should have.

Officeworks’ EFTPOS terminals actually check the card networks supported by your card as soon as you swipe it, as this information is encoded in the magstripe. If the Officeworks EFTPOS terminal sees you are using a card that only supports Visa (or Mastercard or AMEX), it will never ask you to select Credit, as it is pointless to ask whether you want to use Savings or Cheque (i.e. the EFTPOS network, which is not supported by your card). In other words, the EFTPOS terminal will automatically choose Credit for you as soon as you swipe the card.

The same thing happens at Coles, Kmart, Target, Woolworths and BIG W, as well as businesses using EFTPOS terminals supplied by Tyro. As soon as you swipe a card only supporting Visa (or Mastercard), the EFTPOS terminal will automatically choose Credit for you and either ask for a PIN/signature or immediately attempt to redeem funds from your card.

However, this does not happen at some other businesses (e.g. JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys), because their EFTPOS terminals have not been programmed to detect the supported card networks on your card as soon as you swipe it.

And if you were wondering what would happen at Officeworks (or Coles or Woolworths or BIG W, etc) if you swiped a card only supporting the EFTPOS network, you would only be able to choose between Savings and Cheque. You would not see an option for Credit, as the card you just swiped would not support Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, etc.

                  • @WookieMonster: Yes entered the pin and had the message invalid transaction. Officeworks staff couldnt explain it, tried both cards and same message. Only thing they could say is to call the gift card company.

                    • @david6509: Hmmm when the EFTPOS terminal says INVALID TRANSACTION, that should be due to the gift card issuer declining the transaction, not Officeworks.

The most likely explanation is probably still that the issuer did not recognise the EFTPOS terminal you were using as an Officeworks EFTPOS terminal, but there could be other reasons the issuer declined the transaction on the two cards. Using a different EFTPOS terminal in the store may solve the problem, but who knows!

  • My Disney Plus subscription is coming up for renewal as see I missed the gift card promo for that from the other week. Does anyone know if any retailers on these cards sell a Disney+ plus card, so I can by one of these Ultimate cards and purchase the Disney subscription in store.

This has to be worst experience.

Bought 2 kids cards and 1 of them didn't work at advertised retailer.

Woolworths is saying "Not their responsibility after sold".

  • +1

Just bought 2x 500 Teen cards this morning and the points haven't shown up yet. A bit nervous when reading above comments.

  • Can i use my everyday rewards dollars to buy these gift cards?

    • +2

      Nope.

      • If you are purchasing just a gift card in a transaction at Woolworths, there will not be an option to redeem Everyday Rewards Dollars on the payment screen.

      • If you are purchasing a gift card and items eligible to be paid for using Everyday Rewards Dollars (e.g. groceries), at Woolworths, there will be an option to redeem Everyday Rewards Dollars on the payment screen, but you will only be able to redeem enough Everyday Rewards Dollars to cover the cost of the eligible items. For example, if you are wanting to purchase a $30 Ultimate gift card and $22 worth of groceries in the same transaction and you have $60 in Everyday Rewards Dollars, you will only be able to redeem up to $20 worth of Everyday Rewards Dollars, as that would (mostly) cover the cost of the eligible items.

      • There used to be a loophole where if your Eveyday Rewards Dollars balance went over the limit (currently $4,000), the checkout would redeem Everyday Rewards Dollars, even if you were purchasing a gift card. However, it looks like that loophole was closed a year ago.

Thanks for clarifying. On the other thread of apple gift cards, someone said that it’s the best time to make use of everyday rewards dollars bcos of all the fraudulent activities . So i tried to buy few ultimate gift cards at local woolies but couldn’t pay with the reward dollars.

  • I'm struggling to find any mention of the offer on Woolworths or Ultimate Gift Card websites but the offer mentions it lasting until tomorrow. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

    • Have you checked the weekly catalogue that ends tomorrow? It should be advertised on the bottom of page 36.

  • To the above poster regarding transaction not going through. Same thing was happening to me. They advised me that I need to register the card online first before I can use. (Ultimate gift card).

  • Bought 3x $50 and 1x $500 (variable that I fully loaded)

Only got 3k points in my account, so based on previous comments I'm going to take a punt and say they're struggling with the variable loads

  • LMAO all the managers go home at 5pm can't authorise any transactions over $2k

    • Add to that the rules by different stores:

      • No more than $1000/person/day
      • Limit of $500/card/transaction
      • Hmmm, could be worse.

One Woolworths duty manager told me during a 30x Apple gift card deal that they would only sell each customer $300 worth of Apple gift cards each day, because “I cannot understand what people would want to spend more than $300 Apple gift cards on. $300 is a lot of music.”

At a different Woolworths store, one of the staff member cannot approve a purchase of $500 worth of gift cards! They have to call over their supervisor and get them to approve such a purchase…

        • +1

Wow. So just because they don't know their products they start making wrong assumptions.

      • yeah sick of these shitty people making up rules as they go

clearly says 10 cards max per transactions per day

I was about to check out $5000 worth (10x$500) got to paying at front counter and then ohhhh it can only let me do $2000 and the managers have all gone home so i can only do $2000 removes 6 cards from my order and then went you can do another transaction up to $2000 and I was like and get no POINTS no thank you!……. while few days before I went to self checkout and painfully had to watch the poor self checkout assistant do 6x$500 one by one cards with her barcode authority but got $3000 approved easy she ain't no manager. You mean to tell me self checkout assistant has more power than front counter???

Variable load cards at Woolies are an epic fail when you are doing a big one

        • I had one tell me that I could do multiple transactions per day up to two (ie. 4x $500, 4x $500, 2x $500). Obviously I only did the one and cut my loss.

          • @t25: Good choice

They dun giv a fuk if you miss out on points

  • i went to woolies. But none of their Teens / Kids cards have the officework logo. But the website claims that it works for it. Can someone pls explain?

    • The physical gift card packaging is outdated.

The packaging for the Ultimate Teens and Kids I spotted at my local Woolworths earlier today were printed in September 2021 and February 2022. However, at the time that packaging was printed, Officeworks was not a participating retailer in the Ultimate gift card scheme. Officeworks was only added as a participating retailer at the end of September 2022 at the same time as a whole heap of new retailers were added to the Ultimate gift card scheme (and rebel, BCF and Supercheap Auto started being removed).

I would rely on the Ultimate gift card website as the source of truth for participating retailers. A rep from Blackhawk Network (the Ultimate gift card owner/issuer) recently confirmed this.1

If it helps, I redeemed an Ultimate Teens gift card at Officeworks two days ago and had no issues at all. The Ultimate Teens gift card packaging did not have the Officeworks logo on it.

You should only rely on the physical gift card packaging for participating retailers if you are interested in rebel, BCF and Supercheap Auto. The reason is that those three retailers are slowly being phased out. If you have a physical Ultimate gift card with rebel, BCF and/or Supercheap Auto shown on the packaging, you can still use it at rebel, BCF and/or Supercheap Auto.

      1. If you are wondering why the rep received many downvotes, it is due to them somehow forgetting to mention that JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys were on the Ultimate Thanks and Ultimate Baby & Mum gift cards before Blackhawk Network quietly removed them.

      • +1

Thanks. Judging from this thread, it seems like ppl have to chase up the 20x points. :( For me, i might have to decide if it is worth the effort. also could be a chance that officework would be out of stock for the item when i walk in. Online transaction doesn't allow for more than one giftcard, sadly.

Called WW Rewards line spending an hour waiting to catch someone and still told me to wait 14 business days? I would stay away from WW's variable value gift cards later. Such a bugger while Coles will have the points the next day.

    • for future reference, does the problem only occur for the variable ones?

      • Yes, fixed amount ones should be fine.

  • I just got my 20000 points for 2 x $500 card today and didn’t contact Woolworths.

    • I just received today too! Yay!

      • You guys are lucky. I still have some missing points from the promo. Day 2,3,6,7 still outstanding (350,000 points). Day 1 and 4 have been credited (90,000 points) the lowest of the all the transactions.

        • Did you buy $17.5k worth of cards?

Good luck as they are unlikely to give you points for that many cards.

          • @Ash-Say: Yeah. It was $22k actually. Bought the home card to spend them at JB Hifi fitting out an office. (Think macs, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, sandwich press, toaster, coffee machine, etc)

Why would I not get the points for that many cards? Each transaction was ten cards at most, usually consisting of $500 variable cards.

Unless I’ve missed it there was no mention of points limit.
