There's no way Shopback didn't know this… I think I read somewhere that they take a cut of the sold gift cards when this happens…

    • +7

It wouldn't make any sense if Shopback didn't take a cut out of any deals/promos/cash back listed on their site. Why would you advertise someone else's business for free?

  • +1

    $38.1 got scammed.

  • Shame. Press F for $100. I'm glad I didn't have the 30 off 200 offer at the time.

It would be great if Shopback could sort something out. I doubt Shopback knew anything. This probably goes back to Deliveroo wanting to boost clients by selling heavily discounted gift cards.

This is the reality of a food delivery and competition. Uber and others have basically been subsidising this lifestyle.

    • Yeah, Uber is subsidising it by pinching my GC money. Money taken by not being able to access it is not as bad as some people but anyway you look at it it is still considered robbery since I raised the issue with them and they had done nothing despite it being black and white.

  • I can't believe people are trying to charge back with their credit card already, it hasn't even been 24 hours. Give ShopBack some time to formulate a response to this shitfeast.

Jobs have been lost and drivers who have already worked won't be getting paid. Meanwhile people here are trying to profit by withdrawing their $25 cashback and asking for their $100 back. Jesus.

    • +5

There is time limit to lodge a credit card charge back depends on the bank. Also some victims ordered the gift cards last month or earlier not just from this recent promo so depends on the situation, waiting too long might means forfeiting their hard earned money.

    • Won't somebody think of the children!

    • Drivers are getting 4 weeks pay as compensation. People here only hope are credit card companies and shopback.

  • Insolvent trading in this case? I can't believe director didn't know the company was solvent 10 days ago when they heavily discounted the gift card.

    • You mean "insolvent".

Tl;dr: credits on account will NOT be refunded as it is deemed unsecured creditors

    • To be honest it was just deliveroo's exit liquidity. I bet the terms and conditions of the gift card exonerate them from any liability

  • The only way anyone with a Deliveroo GC in their shopback app sees their money again is if shopback cop the loss. They won't get anything from Deliveroo so if they refund our money, they will be stuck with the debt.

My question is, who was permitting promos and upsized cashback knowing that Deliveroo was about to go under?

    • As a retailer of Deliveroo GC, shopback might hold certain amount of GC sales before paying Deliveroo back (eg. 30 days)
there might be a small chance where those recent sales of GC might be refundable if those funds are not being handed to Deliveroo yet
But for GC that sold several months back the chance are low

      • +1

Hard to prove without looking at individual accounts that giftcard purchased a while back are not used yet.
Hopefully not the case with recent 25% cashback promo

        • +1

Agreed with you. I hope ShopBack will go extra mile for us who have been supporting them, I hope Shopback will look into all of our account in Deliveroo. Let wait and see, I think our only hope is ShopBack to help us, I will not hope anything from Kordametha. Yes, I have about $450 gift card in Deliveroo account. Life Lesson learnt from this experience.

          • @fishandchips: I'm a bit paranoid now, and start withdrawing balances from SB and CR.
Turns out SB only allows up to $300 per day for withdrawal. CR is ok to withdraw $450ish in one go

Delete Credit Card detail used for Deliveroo Subscription!! I could not do it using my iPhone but I have successfully deleted my Credit Card using Android phone. I borrowed my son Android phone, install the Deliveroo App, login, go to Payment method, delete credit card details, Manage subscription pop up, click on it, direct me to Deliveroo plus, and go from there. Hope this help you all.

  • -1

I hope for those who are requesting a charge back can withdraw their cashback benefits and shopback will not freeze their accounts. Obviously this is not an issue if you do not have a huge balance and nothing pending.

    • +3

I hope for those who are requesting a charge back can withdraw their cashback benefits and shopback will not freeze their accounts.

So you want people to literally make money from this? Someone buys $100 deliveroo gc for $100, gets $25 cashback. Then chargeback $100, profit $25. If they managed to use their $100 gc on deliveroo then they will be profiting even more. Shopback is the one who will end up losing.

      • -4

Why NOT??? All the companies declared bankruptcy took all the money.

        • You shouldn’t be taking extra from Shopback. They are trying to do the right thing and get us savings. We don’t know the truth behind their knowledge of the company problems. To be fair I’ve had 20% off Deliveroo before so 25 is nothing unusual or excessive.
I’d give the $25 “profit” back to Shopback.

          • +2

@HereToSave: I don't know how charge back works and have never done this before so not sure if shopback and/or the credit card providers would ask for evidence. It doesn't make sense if the chargeback is processed without any due diligence. Can't say for others but I would be happy for shopback to keep the cashback amounts from my balance. This is all hypothetical and everyone is different but I cannot just sit and not 'try' to get my money back.

Before you get your pitchforks out - Deliveroo is the one to blame but we are all victims here (incl. Shopback if they were not aware of this).

            • +2

              @smarter_fool: Exactly.
Shopback needs to issue a statements and advise its users what they are doing and the best course of action.
Just be straight up and transparent.

          • +3

@HereToSave: Happy for Shopback to take even 25% (don't think I ever bought at 25% but it might be too hard to figure out everyone's cash back percent) of my remaining deliveroo balance and pay me the remaining 75%.

Or happy for them to just trade my deliveroo balance for door dash credit (thereby negating the cashbacks)

            • @CheapBrah: I would welcome this whole heartedly. Great idea!

              • @smarter_fool: Agree, would be happy with that and assume door dash can justify it as promotional activity as there are a lot of Deliveroo customers looking for a new service.

  • This is why you don't buy gift cards from crap businesses.

Just got this email from ShopBack

    Hi there,
Yesterday, and much like the rest of you, we were surprised to learn that Deliveroo had gone into voluntary administration. ShopBack was not aware of Deliveroo's intention to exit Australia and we are equally frustrated by the lack of communication.

That said, we are committed to finding a resolution for our customers, and have teams working round-the-clock to determine the best course of action. In the meantime, we thank you for your patience.

We ask for your kind patience with our customer support team as they continue to work tirelessly to help address your concerns.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected] if you have any further inquiries, we would gladly be of assistance.

    Best Regards,
    Team ShopBack

  • Sounds tentatively positive… I hope they can help us.

  • +1

Filed a chargeback claim last night with CommBank. I just got a reply that they will refund me the full amount of the gift cards I got (which I’ve loaded into my Deliveroo account but unused). But now it gets interesting because I already got the cashback from ShopBack buying those gift cards before this circus started. Does that mean I’m double dipping?

    • +2

Yes, also a bit unfair to chargeback when they're trying to find a solution. If they washed their hands of it then by all means chargeback, but so far it seems they're going to try find a solution.

      • Agreed, ShopBack have said they are looking into the matter and do their best to help us. So would wait for that outcome first before filing any chargebacks.

      • +1

I understand. I have no problem with ShopBack requesting the cashback amount be reversed but I don't know if that's possible?

  • +17

Hey there OzB, just repeating the update here for you all:

Yesterday, and much like the rest of you, we were surprised to learn that Deliveroo had gone into voluntary administration. ShopBack was not aware of Deliveroo's intention to exit Australia and we are equally frustrated by the lack of communication.

That said, we are committed to finding a resolution for our customers, and have teams working round-the-clock to determine the best course of action. In the meantime, we thank you for your patience.

I will ask for your kind patience with me as well as our customer support team as we continue to work tirelessly to help address your concerns/needs here. I will keep you posted as soon as we have more information.

    • +4

Please do have our backs. Like your name suggests :(

    • I knew Deliveroo wouldn’t tell Shopback, just like they didn’t give us any notice and straight up cut us off and left us hanging with our credit and gift cards.

Thanks for the update GYB :)

      • +6

Yep, we sent out the same info here on OzB and to our users via email to avoid confusion.

      • +7

how dare shopback plagiarise from shopback

    • -3

      How many teams?
      Why more than 1 team?
Is it efficient to have more than 1 team?

    • +3

Thanks for your efforts and communication. Just putting it out there that while this may be a bit of a no-win situation for Shopback, it seems hard to believe there could be a worse solution than letting it just go to chargebacks.

That would be highly unfair to those who didn't pay by CC or who have a CC with a bank that doesn't "have their back".

I'm saying this as someone who paid by CC and whose bank has already confirmed they will provide a chargeback on this if push comes to shove, but who doesn't want to lose their Shopback account.

      • +1

Hey mate, thanks for reaching out here, I was able to provide a bit more of an update here.

    • I’m assuming that it would assist in the process if we all didn’t initiate chargebacks on our credit cards en masse while you guys are trying to sort this out?

Regardless, hopefully this will be sorted out ASAP and shopback announces what the resolution is going forward very quickly because otherwise there will be a mass of chargebacks happening before time runs out on being able to initiate the chargeback.

      • How long typically you can request a chargeback?

        • +1

          (From consumer VIC website)

          Time limits

There are time limits on making a chargeback claim that vary from 45 to 120 days from the transaction date. Check your card provider's time limit and submit a claim as soon as possible.

Keep all forms, emails, documents or web pages you have filled in, read or received. You may need them to support your claim.

The card operator may reject a chargeback request made outside their time limits.

          • @ozvictor: So plenty of time in theory for Shopback to give us some options

            • +5

@smarter_fool: Less if you purchased during the previous offer in October.

      • Just bumping my update here in case you miss it mate.

        • Thanks mate, appreciate the update. As I bought $2000 in deliveroo gift cards during last week’s promo, I’m especially keen to make sure I can try and get some value back. Will hold off on initiating chargebacks for now.

  • +5

In order to break even, I guess I will cook for my next 78 meals…

    • you don’t already cook your own meals? 😳

    • Or have noodles? For like 20 meals.

Hi all, thanks so much for your ongoing patience here, I'm happy to be able to provide some more updated information on this for you. Our teams are continuing to investigate tirelessly to find the best possible solutions and gather all the relevant info to be able to exact those solutions, including clarity on each ShopBack users' pending Deliveroo Gift Card balances. As ShopBack cannot identify the remaining balance of the gift cards ourselves, we will need to contact either the Administrating company KordaMentha or Deliveroo AU personnel for further assistance, which may take a short while.

For now, as we are working hard to be able to provide our own solutions, we ask that chargebacks for these pending amounts are avoided, as this might further complicate this issue whilst we are investigating.

I will continue to update you on our progress in resolving this, and can't thank you enough for your patience with me and the wider team here at ShopBack.

    • I have $446.21 unused Deliveroo vouchers, I have not chargebacked from my credit card and I have also not claim from Menulog as I will do the right thing for ShopBack. I hope I will not lose all $446.21. I knew some people have about $1100. So hopefully ShopBack will come out with the good outcome. Good Luck Everyone and ShopBack.

      • same here, haven't chargebacked mine and probably can't claim on menulog as most of my voucher is still in the form of unused gift card in my Shopback Account. Have $300 worth of it and can't be redeemed at any merchant now.

      • How did you get so much in vouchers .. and for the people with over $1k …

      • +1

Don't think taking up the Menulog offer has any bearing, it's just a menulog promo.

      • +1

I am the lucky one with 1,100……. I bought them in the 20% off sale less then a week ago planning Friday night dinners for the next 6 months. Tonight was supposed to be pizza night with the kids…. Sadly not.

        • Sorry to hear that mate..I got 600-1000 for uber trips to the airport haha

Was using them before my deliveroo of $300

      • I can only wish I “only” bought $1100 worth of gift cards…..

    • Apologies but can I ask why no chargebacks.

Wouldn't that save your team time and energy?

      • +4

Shopback will end up copping the loss even though Deliveroo is to blame

      • +5

Shopback has to refund the full cost of the gift card plus pay a fee to their payment processor. Unnecessary and unfair given that they're not the ones who screwed everyone over

      • +2

Every chargeback costs the merchant a fee, normally about $30.
Plus with to many chargebacks their merchant fees increase, or they could lose their merchant account.

Aside from that there is no real valid reason to make a chargeback as Shopback have provided what you paid for, a Deliveroo gift card.
It's not Shopbacks fault that you cannot use it.

        • +1

Ah I understand. I thought MasterCard covered it and the hours required by shopback would be more costly

When you do the chargeback i just said didn't receive item but I did it last night

I could cancel it if it helps?

    • +1

I will give ShopBack until Wednesday 23 Nov 2022 to come up with solution, until then I will proceed with dispute or chargeback with my credit card company for my unused $446.21 Deliveroo credit. Hope to hear from you soon ShopBack.

      • sorry don't know how to link to specific posts but if you look in page 4, he has listed a process to obtain a refund.

        • +1

You click the timestamp on the post and you can copy link

  • @gotyourback, I understand you guys would be under the pump. I am trying to add Deliveroo gift card (purchased from shopback) to my account but it keep saying "use does not meet condition for the voucher". has shopback disabled the gift cards sold by them or something?

    • similar situation with me. I have $300 gift card that I haven't redeemed to my Deliveroo account… Technically if this can't be applied to the Deliveroo Account, this card is considered faulty and should be possible to refund I think… The argument is that that 'gift card' could just be a random alphanumerical combination that doesn't work.

    • Are you using the right link/code?

      https://deliveroo.com.au/account/vouchers

      • yap. that's the one

      • +1

It's weird that Deliveroo would even leave that enabled.

    • Hey mate, cheers for your patience with me here, I've updated here on the process for cards that have been redeemed, for users such as yourself who have not added the card to your Deliveroo account, Send through the first two points to myself or our customer care team so that we can locate the card on our end. @hoaemhuff FYI :)

      • Thanks Gotyourback !

I just slide you a DM with the details of my card that has not been used. I also have about $76 in my Deliveroo account which I sent in a follow up DM. Thank you very much for your help in this!

      • Has the process changed?

I just received an email back from Shopback which advised:
        • Open the ShopBack app. Note down the voucher codes of all your unused voucher.
        • Open the Deliveroo app or site. Under accounts, enter the voucher code(s) and take a screenshot of the unused amount.
        • Submit a claim form here with the voucher details and upload the Deliveroo screenshots.

If I am understanding correctly, then I now need to redeem the $100 voucher that I had not redeemed? And seems need a google account to go to claim form.

        Thanks

        • +1

          I'm confused too about this

  • +17

Hi there OzB community, I hope you all had a great weekend, I'm here to finally give an update on the next steps for us to be able to help where we can with this issue.

ShopBack are willing to do our best to get refunds for any remaining balance on Deliveroo gift cards purchased from us, less any Cashback amount earned, paid or pending.

This may be a bit of a process, so please read the following carefully before reaching out. To be able to look into each and every case here, we will need a bit of information from affected users to investigate. To move forward here, I ask that you reach out to either myself via DM, or our customer service team via email at [email protected], with the following details:

    1. Your ShopBack email address.
    2. The date of purchase for the gift cards, if you're able to locate and/or the supplied expiry date of the gift card (to be used to identify the card on our end)
    3. Lastly, two screenshots from the Deliveroo app, one showing the remaining balance of the card, and the second with the validity period of the card as listed by Deliveroo.

The last can be done by either uploading the screenshots to OzBargain Files or via Imgur and send me a link to it in your DM. If you'd prefer not to upload there, you're welcome to instead reach out to our customer service team instead where you can send the screenshots as an attachment to your email.

Again, I really can't stress enough how much I appreciate the patience and understanding you've shown us during this period, this has been a tough one for us to navigate, coming as a surprise to us, so I appreciate you waiting on further updates and having faith that I've got your back.

    • I noticed that going into gift card purchases doesn't actually tell you when you purchased the gift card? Or am I missing something?

      • +1

Update: Never mind, turns out I just needed more info! If you head to the Purchases tab in the app, you can click on the documents icon in the top right hand corner to take you to your order history. That'll give you better insight into the date of purchase. Thanks!

Yeah unfortunately the bits of info aren't in the same spot, the purchase date will be in your Cashback Overview under the tracked line for the purchase. I understand it might be a bit difficult for some who purchase gift cards regularly to find this info, as the Cashback Overview doesn't state what merchant the card is for, just that a voucher purchase was made, so if you're not able to source both, the expiry will do. If you can though it would be super helpful and save me a lot of time. This is going to be a pretty manual process for me so any help would be supremely appreciated, but I understand if it's not possible.

    • I still got unused Deliveroo Gift Cards which are still lying inside the Purchases tab in Shopback App. Does it mean that I first need to apply these gift cards in my Deliveroo account and then share the screenshots of applied Gift Cards to you?

      • Check my insight on this here mate.

        • Thanks mate, just DM’ed you!

I have got $50 ($20 + $30) worth unused Deliveroo gift cards, not yet applied to Deliveroo account and still in my Shopback purchases tab.

    • Sorry, but step 3 doesn't make sense when you haven't redeemed the gift cards onto Deliveroo.

      • hey mate, addressed that here

        • got it. thanks mate

    • +1

Hi GYB, for step 3 can we provide the screenshots from the Deliveroo website? We ordered Deliveroo using the website and don't even have the Deliveroo app installed.

      • Any browser-based screenshots can be very very easily edited as evident from the menulog deal

        • I would think any digital screenshot, whether from pc or phone, can be edited though.

But sure I will install and get a screenshot from the app if that website screenshot isn't acceptable.

      • +1

Ideally the app here just for consistency on the process on our end, but let me know if you run into any trouble with it.

    • Hey @gotyourback, thanks for the update!

I'm putting together the information now, but I've noticed that the expiry dates listed on the Shopback receipts don't always correspond to the expiry dates listed on Deliveroo? Is this discrepancy acknowledged by Shopback?

      • +2

Hmmm, I'm sure it's fine, include all the detail that you can here. I'll check in with the team to be doubly sure.

      • Has anyone else noticed this? Shopback's expiry date doesn't always correspond to the expiry date listed on Deliveroo.

If this is the case, then expiry date can't be used as a valid form of matching the two cards. Would be good to have a few more data points on this to confirm.
