Long overdue? It's been 2 years. Slim versions have historically been released 3-4 years (4 for PS2, 3 for PS3 and 3.5 for PS4) into the life-cycle.
At best it will be released this time next year.

Maybe I will ask it a different way. Does the fat version become that fat with all the latest tech chips inside, and does technology progress so fast that 3 years later the Slim version is that much smaller with the latest chips?

I guess I just found the whole concept odd when they announced the updated PS5 normal version. Which reportedly shrunk down a lot of the inside parts but keeping the same outside body. I thought why even do that if not for restarting hype for the product and to drum up sales. I am always on the suspicious side of things.

What titles are out there that really demand a new console? I mean it's been out for ages and the offerings on both platforms are weak compared to previous generations.

Couldn't you save about $80 by buying $800 worth of gift cards and paying the $200 deposit with gift cards as well as the remaining $599?
The discounted gift cards are not available until 17th, you could do it if EB still have ps5 for preorder.

I was keen on upgrading from my PS4pro 2 years ago but couldn't get near one…since then I got a RTX3080 for my PC and hardly use the PS4 for anything. Now I can't see me buying a PS5 at all anymore shrug

With a growing list of playstation exclusives on PC, a PS5 is a tough sell.

I did it before they didn’t refund the $200 and I just pay for the remaining with gift cards.

Gift cards should be good to go straight away.
You can elect to either use the deposit you put down, or can get that refunded onto the card you use to deposit, and pay the remainder with gift cards.
Have bought around 5x PS5s this year using gift cards, saved a additional 5% or at the time as I got them on redeemyourgiftcard

Yeah would want to know what firmware is possible for jailbreak, I bought one before they increased the prices but not sure if early enough.
I think there is a partial jailbreak atm for Firmware 4.51 and lower. I'm guessing the newer builds of ps5 are shipping with a higher firmwares.

What's the benefits to jailbreaking it? There isn't really any ps5 exclusive games I want to play that much atm!
I traded in my original PS4 with EB (for the same price that I paid) and bought the PS5 Horizon bundle. The things I miss most about the PS4 are the theme changes and the ability to play games on external HDD (you still be able to play PS4 games on HDD but not PS5 games). Other than that, PS5 just does everything else better (faster loading time, better graphics, higher framerate, Dualsense…). You'll be able to reuse the same dualshock controller and external HDD to play PS4 games. In addition, you can buy the faceplate cover in other colour if you don't like the white colour look.
Cons:
. limited storage on the console ssd (824gb but in fact you only have 600gb of free space) though this can be fixed by adding another ssd.
. you have to re-purchase the PS5 version for some of the games (GTA5, Uncharted 4, Ghost of Tsushima…)
. huge and bulky.
. not many exclusive titles at the moment.
If you can sell your PS4 for a good price, I think it's worth upgrading. The longer you wait, your PS4 will be worth nothing.
I held onto my PS4 Pro mainly because PS5 is still not readily available. If my PS5 dies at least I can pull out the PS4P and keep playing on that until I can get a replacement PS5.
Once we can easily walk into a shop and buy a PS5 off the shelf then I'll look at offloading my PS4.
You know there's this thing called warranty and how they give you replacement yeah?
(a) my PS5 is out of warranty
(b) even if it's under warranty, if they don't have any stock on hand then they can't give you a replacement until they get stock.

Posted 12 hours ago and still plenty available for pre-order. Also saw it on the PS5 Stock twitter pages too so it does appear stock has finally caught up with demand.
Will probably get smashed tomorrow when everyone gets the 10% gift cards. But seems to be plenty of god of war bundles in store when I rang around. Not many are wanting to pay $905 for it though.
Hope no one complains about not being able to get a ps5 after this deal. Yes it is more expensive than before but cheaper than buying it off someone. The increased supply would have destroyed the resell market.
