Seems the demand has dropped a lot recently

    • +19

Should be expected after 2 years and 3 days.

      • +35

1/4 of a consoles lifecycle and still can't walk into a shop and pick one up….

        • +1

Understandable given the recent couple of years don't you think?

        • +9

This kind of made me think, what's the upgrade cycle like for consoles?

Release of PS6 likely to be in Late-2028, a Pro-version is likely to release in Early-2025. MS probably to skip Pro-version, but bring the next-gen console earlier in Late-2026. Not sure if this Crystal Ball is broken 🔮💔

          • @Kangal: I doubt there will be pro versions of either current gen console. That's normally dependent on the cost of the hardware coming down and there's no sign of that happening any time soon. In fact the cost seems to be going up.

PS4 Pro launched at the same price as the original PS4. So far PS5 has gone up $50 since launch, while MS say they're losing something like $200 on every console sold. I can't see either one of them cramming significantly more performance into the current price level, and I doubt there's much appetite for an even more expensive console, especially with much of the world seemingly heading into recession. It's not like there are a lot of games that are really making the most of the hardware in the current PS5 / XSX consoles anyway. The vast majority of games are still being released for the previous generation with upgrades for the newer hardware.

    • +4

Or supply chains are starting to return to normal.

      • +5

Or more like the market has been filled up?

        • Only if they end up store shelves can that be claimed.

    • +42

Them tagging on $50 killed my interest in upgrading to a PS5. They can keep that shit, I'll just stick with my PS4 pro.

      • +5

Load times on Elden ring was worth it alone, still playing the PS4 version on the PS5.

The new VR will be worth a look too.

      • +1

Mate the ps5 is def worth it, I've had it since day one and I traded my ps4 for credit on it etc during preorder. If you had one you'd pay $1000 for it knowing how much better it is than the PS4

        • +12

I've had the opportunity to play the PS5 at my mate's house and while it's a great console, I won't pay $800 for it, let alone $1000. I'm happy with my pro until I can get it cheaper or they release a substantial console revision.

          • +2

@Deditus: Maybe not if your existing console is a PS4 Pro. But I can confirm its night and day going from a PS4 slim to the PS5

            • +2

@CottonC: just the controller on its own is enough to upgrade to PS5

          • +3

@Deditus: This, but with a PS4 Pro and a Series X. Not worth $900 for the Sony exclusives when I have access to everything else.

      • +2

My PS5 is basically a glorified Pro at this point. 90% of the games I've played have been the PS4 games with enhanced patches and smoother framerates.

      • -1

Such a stupid hill to die on, the upgrade is well worth the price of admission.

        • If you have a series x and PS4 pro. Not really,

          • -1

@Griffindinho: The comment I am commenting on didn't mention a series x matey..

            • +1

@doobey1231: Yeah, but if you have either of those consoles. I would wait until for a PS5 Pro version.

      • +1

        PS4 pro… hah. I'm still on the PS3!

      • They didn't just tag on 50 cause they like good red wine? Cost of fuel, transport… everything is going up. Their supply chain is going up, so the customer pays.

    • +3

The stock has improved a lot, Sony has a forecast of more than 18 million ps5 consoles shipped for the fiscal year 2022.

    • +6

Ive had the PS5 for months.. not many exclusives titles so really theres no need to hurry if upgrading from PS4

      • +1

I see. The only games I play just FFVII remake and genshin impact both runs ok on PS4 pro. But not very smooth. Not worth $800 for an upgrade

        Will wait for ps5 pro

        • I've owned mine a year now and I think Ratchet and Clank might be the only PS5-only exclusive I've actually played. Probably not my wisest purchase but at least the RRP has only gone up which makes me feel better about it

    • +2

Maybe everyone starts feeling the impact of inflation.

  • +15

These use to be $749 a year ago

    • +8

      That was a year ago…

      • +9

I'm sure if the Switch randomly increased by $50 it'd be a different story

Honestly half the hype for this machine is coming as a result of its scarcity

        • +6

          +1

I've got both the PS5 and Series X, and while I appreciate the exclusives, I feel like the Series X has the real next gen features in Quick Resume and being able to download games you don't own from the app so that if you're still a disc user, you can cut down on the wait time until you can play the software.

        • well it did..

    • if you could find one

    • These use to be $749 a year ago

Sony announced a $50 increase in August

      • +2

So are price increases at RRP a bargain?

        • Are you new to ozstockalerts? Pull up a chair we’ve got Xbox Series X consoles coming in hot at $749 any minute now

          • @ripoffmerchant: Xbox series X has been in stock ready for immediate delivery on the Microsoft store for months now. $675 after gift card cashback

    • +1

a year ago woolworths essential chips 1kg were $2, they are $2.7

      • +2

Only $2.70??? Are they taking preorders????

        • Good luck finding any stock. You basically have to just walk into a Woolworths and cross your fingers they got them in recently. The scarcity only seems to be increasing demand and there's barely and exclusive flavours

      • If we only knew a year ago to post it as a deal.

  • Anybody actually receive their preorders yet from the batch 2 weeks ago?

    • I did, last Thursday.

    • I got a text message last week to tell me it's on the way however it hasn't arrived.

      • I was the same as you, got a text that it was on the way then nothing else. I just got a call from EB games saying that mine is there and they are about to on-sell it as I have not some in yet and said it has been waiting there a week!

    • @OCD Completionist ordered last night around 11pm and got a call 12pm today to pick up console. I said to the guy - “wow that was quick” he said what do you mean give me a sec, comes back and says sorry you are the last one on the list and erroneously I started calling from the end. We will call you in 2 weeks and hung up - FML - lol

    • +1

Blame Sony for bumping up the price everywhere but the USA

      • -2

You should research how global currency markets work.

  • Broden does not approve this post

  • +1

I guess this counts as a deal as it's not bundled with a $120 game…

    • Havent seen the console by itself for ages and considering you can buy the games from the bundles cheaper if you buy this, then I woukd consider this a deal compared to them.

  • +1

    Buy now regret later.

    • +16

Hopefully you'll be too busy to comment here on deals you don't care about when you get said GPU….

    • +2

Since when does PC's play PS5 games?

    • +1

Invest suggests that in the long term the item would be worth more.

  • At what point are these notifications irrelevant now?

If you haven't got a PS5 by now, and you wanted one, well…. That's on you.

    • +6

At the point where you can walk into a store and buy one.

      • +4

        Put your name down.

        It's not hard.

They've had preorders up for hours and hours lately.

    • +4

The people that say "until you can walk in and buy one" aren't really interested at all.

      • Exactly.

The only ones I can sympathise for are younger people who've not had the money, access to their own money etc etc.

Otherwise, it's been 2 years. Even in the USA stock is significantly improving.

  • -2

the PS5 market needs our lord and savior Muzeeb

  • +12

    Rrp isn't a deal

    • +1

      OzPSA section required me thinks

    • -2

Wrong for a lot of items. If we lived in a world where supply and demand were in equilibrium I'd agree. In instances where you can walk out of a store with an item you purchased at RRP and immediately sell it for significantly more secondhand then RRP is a deal.

      • Not anymore

    • Compared to the bundled deals it is.

  • +19

    $800 PS5….Nah…
    $3000 RTX4090……….Yeah

    • +9
      • +3

        Winner in a real life.

      • +1

Wait… the PS5 is an absolute monster of a unit… and the GTX4090 comes in an even larger box?

        That's insane.

      • +1

I would rather bang the girl than getting those rubbish

        • +1

How many fps with the girl ; )
