Chances of Coles doing a 15% for 2022 Wookie? Then again also need to consider availability so debating on whether to jump now

    • +2

When most ppl think there is no 15% coming, then it is the time, most of businesses will start selling them. Marketing strategy to make you spend more (than you want) : )

    • +3

I’m starting to have doubts that Ultimate gift cards will be 15% off in early December at Coles, especially since there are more participating retailers now, but you never know!

To be fair, stock for the “desirable” Ultimate gift cards during last year’s 15% off deal was basically impossible to find in my experience, so for me, a 10% off Ultimate gift card deal is good enough for me.

    • +2

      15% off TCN just announced
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/737790

  • +1

Does anyone know if there is a limit you can use on a transaction at jb hifi? Say 11 X $100. Thanks

    • +5

The record was 81 for TCN/Ultimate Theoretically unlimited

    • +4

I used 21x $100 at JB to buy apple GC

      • I thought you can’t buy a gift card with a gift card? Just want to confirm.

        • +8

I just did it recently on 12th Nov. Can confirm it works with using JB eGCs and Ultimate to buy Apple GCs

          Here’s the proof

          • @BargainsGrabber: Do you have Apple GCs at JB? Couldn't find them online.
Also, can we use Apple GCs to purchase Apple products at JB or are they restricted to be used only at Apple?

            • +1

@pstj: Yes, my local store stock Apple GCs and they’re only be allowed to be used at Apple stores and online

If you want to purchase Apple products at JB, you’d need to use JB GCs/Ultimate GCs

        • +5

I will caution you that you may run into the a JB Hi-Fi staff member who will be on their game and absolutely not let you use an Ultimate or TCN gift card to purchase any gift cards whatsoever, but those people are few and far between in my experience.

There is actually no policy anywhere to say you cannot use Ultimate or TCN gift cards to pay for third-party gift cards at JB Hi-Fi, but if the staff member is insistent you cannot use Ultimate or TCN gift cards or whatever reason, you are kinda stuffed.

I tend to find that swiping a card on the EFTPOS terminal arouses suspicions from some JB Hi-Fi (or Officeworks) staff members, so for physical Ultimate gift cards, I store them on my mobile wallet first and then pay from my mobile wallet.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Yep and no pin required if stored on phone even if purchase is over $200

          • +1

@WookieMonster: I managed to use Ultimate kids GC to buy 10% off Nintendo GC at JB during the last promo but agree YMMV

          • @WookieMonster: Well if you couldnt, simply buy the JB hifi GC online first then. You can always customise the value in each card and use the full amount in the Ultimate cards towards the JB GC.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: But you can buy a TV with pre negotiated price and pay with gift cards yeah??

          • -2

@WookieMonster: Grab his name and store name then submit a complaint to JB HiFi HQ. Use SNS account or shoot an email. You can buy third party gift card with TCN or ultimate gift card. Only thing yiu can’t buy with those gift card is JB Hifi gift cards. All Jb stores are informed about this through internal mail.

            • @ozizoy: So they allow a purchase of third party gift cards (ie. Apple, Netflix, etc) but won't allow a JB gift card.

          • @WookieMonster: Is there a way to add TNC cards to apple wallet?

          • @WookieMonster: How do I add physical Ultimate gift cards to my apple wallet? The instructions on the website say I have to enter the expiry date on the card but there is no expiry date on the card!

        • there is also this way, buying an item with ultimate gift card and return it later, they will issue refund in JB Hi-fi gift card form

I bought an iPhone instore with the previous coles Ultimate GC promotion, and the girl at at JB Hifi did not mind it one bit

I actually tried to use the Visa Ultimate GC online at JB Hifi first but the wesite kept saying the card number is in correct, 18 numbers required vs 16 numbers on the physical GC

    • I lost count at 100, buying a TV.

      • +2

I'm sure that staff member loved you that day :P

    • +1

Recently used 24 cards at JB for a new Macbook Air. Purchased online, no issues.

      • Did you use jb card or ultimate GC?

  • +2

Can you use Ultimate gcs on jb hifi online? I tried and I couldn't make it work

    • +8

There are two types the older Eftpos Ultimate Gift Cards (gift card number starting with a 5) and the newer Visa Ultimate Gift Cards (gift card number starting with a 4).
Eftpos cards can only be used in-store and not online.
As JB online can only support one credit/debit card per transaction you can only use one Visa Ultimate Card.

I feel like I'm doing Wookie's job lol

      • I had the new visa one which starts with 4 and has a 16 digit card num and a ccv. In the JB Hifi check out page, gift card field needs 18 digits and tried it on credit card fields and it still didnt work.

        • +1

The amount at checkout on JB needs to match the Ultimate visa gift card that you have

          • @BargainsGrabber: I had more than enough. Do I put it on the credit card field? What name do I put since the gc is not tied to my name anyway

            • +3

@Brakus: Yes, in the credit card field

              Online
              How
If a participating retailer offers online redemption, the physical gift card can be redeemed either by:
Entering the gift card's details directly into the credit/debit card section of the participating retailer's online checkout

Regarding the name, any name would suffice as the card is not linked to any names. You’d just need the CVV, Expiry date, and the Card Numbers

              • +1

@BargainsGrabber: Thanks for this. Last time it didn’t work but I’ll try it again

                • @Brakus: It could be JB fraudulent system that is happening then. If the problem still persists, best to add the card to your wallet manually via Google or Apple Pay, and then head in store and tap it at the terminal

                  • @BargainsGrabber: Yup. I have it on apple wallet but needed online purchase for online price match + perks

                    • +1

@Brakus: You can still do both price match and the perks code in store too. Doesn’t have to be online if the problem is with the JB fraudulent system :)

                • @Brakus: Did you get it to work?
I'm having the same problem. Bought the cards (visa version) yesterday and today sister-in-law is trying to buy online at the Iconic and it's not working. Found the expiry date to be 12/2029.
Do I need to wait up to 48hrs for activation?

                  • @BellaWii: I didn’t try it as as credit card. But yes, expiry is 12/29.
Try adding to apple wallet and if iconic has apple pay, use apple pay and select the gift card from the list of cards. Make sure the amount does not exceed the card value

                    • @Brakus: Thanks. If I'm buying something for $400 are you saying I can't use 4 Ultimate gift cards of $100?

                      • @BellaWii: I don’t think that visa/ the site has split payment facility. Think buying goods in store and your card gets declined bec it has insufficient funds.

You can split your orders if you get free shipping

                        • @Brakus: Thanks again. That's why people were talking about converting to JB gift cards, didn't understand at the time.
I wonder if I can convert to Iconic gift cards. Will have to investigate this.

                          • @BellaWii: Guess what, ultimate card has an online facility to convert your card to egift card. Found that iconic is supported. You can buy 400 iconic egift card using ultimate cards
                            https://exchangeyourcard.com.au/

Not sure if you can buy 400 and load up multiple ultimate cards or if you can buy multiple 50s or 100s iconic egift card. See if you can add multiple iconic gift cards in the site

                          • @BellaWii: Ok. It looks like you cannot go beyond your card value when converting to iconic gift card. Your best bet is to hope iconic accepts multiple iconic gift cards like ebay and amazon then you should be able to add it up to 400. Maybe try 2 gift cards and see it that works. If it does, do all 4

                            • @Brakus: If I can convert to a $100 Iconic e-gift card I should be able to add $100 credit to my Iconic account (that's what the Iconic gc website says) and accumulate $400 credit in the Iconic account to use. Fingers cross.

                              • @BellaWii: Good luck. Hope that works for you.
I can also see a voucher/gift card field below the payment options. Normally, sites like these should take multiple of their own gift cards

                                • +1

@Brakus: The Iconic allows you to redeem multiple ‘The Iconic’ gift cards during check out or add it all onto your account

                                • @Brakus: Success!!!
Used https://exchangeyourcard.com.au/ to convert my Ultimate gc into the Iconic e-gc and received the email instantly. Then was able to redeem 4 x $100 e-gc on the Iconic website for a $400 purchase.
Thanks so much Brakus for your help!

  • Anyone knows how to get discounted Harvey Norman cards?

    • +2

Your answer is in this wiki

    • +1

Ozbargainers shopping at Harvey's is frowned upon

But a saving is a saving so whocares

      • Lol. I wish someone else stocked the appliances I was after. They offered a $50 gift card on purchase which I went with. Can’t getter a better discount atm

      • If you can cause them to sell at a loss then its ok

        • rare but yes

    • You can ask price match in JBhifi with Harvey Norman, even more you can do price beat in Officework

      • No I actually bought instant pot pro crisp from them, not available at any other retailers other than Harvey Norman and domayne. And my sunbeam Luxe toaster I need to pay for those in a few days. Can’t find any discounted cards for them

        • +1

I saw last year Harvey Norman had discounted gift card/discount from Shopback. Keep on eye on Black Friday on Shopback!

  • Sad thing about them removing BCF, SCA and Rebel.

    • TCN Him cards have them now, better than nothing

    • +1

I still have not come across a single physical Ultimate Him, Teens or Kids gift card which has removed rebel, BCF and/or SCA, so you should be safe for now.

But yeah, it is a shame they have moved over to the TCN gift card scheme.

      • @OP -noob question if I get Ultimate everyone - does it mean I can use at any1 of the listed retailers, it is not tied to a particular retailer? Say if i 1st shop at JB and if funds are left then I can still use at EB Games or do i have to use all at JB?

        • +2

if i 1st shop at JB and if funds are left then I can still use at EB Games

          Yes, that is correct.

You can redeem the funds at any of the participating retailers shown on the Ultimate gift card website a many times as you like until the balance reaches $0 (or your card expires or is cancelled).

  • Am I right in assuming Wish gift cards won’t work for this deal ?

  • Does anyone know if you get your money refunded back to your ultimate gc if your order has been cancelled by JB/TGG?

    • +2

JB as in JB Hifi? you get refunded with a JB Hifi gift card instead

  • +2

    Thank you WookieMonster

In a nutshell, "Ultimate Home" would be the best choice for most of ozbargainers.

    • +4

      Why not Everyone?

      • Ultimate Everyone is the best by far.

      • Everyone wasn't on sale at my local BigW. Others were

    • I go for teens. I want it for Grill’d and option of other things

  • Aren't Coles and Woolworths both doing 20x point this week? I thought that is also equal to 10% discount. Don't know why people are so work up with Aldi deal 🤔🤔.

I would think most OZB would have jump on this deal for the Mastercard

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/730697

Then use it to pay for this

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/735201

    then happy Black Friday shopping……

    • +2

Read the comments, people aren't even receiving the points and have to spend hours chasing up.

Plus the points needs to be spent at Woolworths whereas this is instant cash off.

      • But if you do the Coles trick then its 10% off 10% right?

Not sure about the points issue, I did twice before. Once with woolies on Apple gift card and the other time with Coles Flybuys on normal gift cards. Both time the point came through, with the woolies one appears within 24 hours.

        • What’s the Coles trick?

          • @Thranrond: First rule of Coles trick we don't talk about Coles trick

        • You can use the coles mastercard anywhere, not just at woolworths.

          • @linkii: I was somehow not able to use my Mastercard to buy gift cards at woollies. Tried everything just didn’t work

            • @Meenas: Strange… were you selecting to pay with debit/credit card? I've never had an issue using Coles PMC to pay for gift cards at Woolies (have recently had the issue of not getting points though).

    • I prefer cash discount than stupid points.

      • Me too…. but I am not sure if you can even get one🤔🤔 Sure will be heaps of people going after it.

On the other hand no one give a damn this week and plenty of stock in both Woolies and Coles. If I have got the discounted master card, I will be sure stocking a few from Coles.

  • Is there a limit of how many you can buy?

    • +1

The catalogue did not state a limit.

I think the absolute maximum number of gift cards you can purchase in one transaction at BIG W is ten. However, staff can always decide to enforce a lower limit if they feel like it.

  • is it anyway to use EDR to buy these cards?

  • So i dont get it — Can someone help me understand ?

Why do companies like TCN and Ultimate have categorised cards which limit where the cards can be used?

What ever happened to the standard VISA gift cards that can be used EVERYWHERE whereever VISA is accepted..
Wouldnt this be a better option as a gift card to somebody ?

    • I think it's just strategy to show that they have a variety of products, but if you have a look closer at the list most of them are overlapped

      • But doesn't the old vanilla VISA gift cards allow the customer to use it literally everywhere ?
Say, Joe's Butcher down the road — just like a VISA credit card, or Debit card?

I still feel these newer companies GC's arent as freely usable as the vanilla GCs.

    • +1

Marketing / Advertising plays a part

Like all products it's not meant to be for everyone

Sure visa / master gift cards are more flexible but they always have surcharge and recently can be hacked too without needing pin

  • Can we do split Mastercard payment on the Big W self serve checkouts? I've still got 3 from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/703991

  • Does anyone have any experience using these at eb games? Is there a limit to amount you can use? Thinking about getting the kids a new xbox for Christmas, thanks

  • Any limit on single use at tgg?

    • +3

Instore: there should be no limit coded into the TGG checkout system, so you can use as many Ultimate gift cards in one transaction as you like.

Online: you can only redeem a maximum of 1x Ultimate gift card per online transaction, but you should be able to redeem it in conjunction with up to 2x TGG gift cards in the same online transaction.

Online via the TGG Commercial website: you can only redeem a maximum of 1x Ultimate gift card per online transaction. You cannot redeem any TGG gift cards on the TGG Commercial website.

      • Didn't realise you could use Ultimate gift cards on The Good Guys Commercial (albeit in a somewhat limited manner). Good to know.

  • Have these gift cards been hacked too? I thought some Ultimate cards were hacked.
I've only started buying gift cards recently. Still trying to get the hang of using them and remembering how many I got.

    • +5

There was a recent data leak and some fraudulent transactions on Ultimate gift cards, but that appears to be in relation to a reseller of Ultimate eGift Cards, and appears to have nothing to do with physical Ultimate gift cards.

I have not heard of any Ultimate gift cards being hacked through the similar methods used for Coles Mastercard gift cards, Vanilla Visa gift cards, OnlyONE Visa gift cards, etc. You cannot just use Ultimate gift cards at any old EFTPOS terminal or payment gateway; you have to redeem them at specific merchants, which would massively reduce the appeal of attempting a hack, especially since those specific merchants should have robust systems on their online payment gateways to detect someone trying to guess and check different gift card combinations.

Having said that, it is a bit like the lottery. The odds of you winning the Powerball jackpot are vanishingly small, but you always hear of one person winning the jackpot every few weeks or so. Similarly, although the likelihood of someone hacking your Ultimate gift card is small, you cannot rule it out!

If you find that someone hacks your Ultimate gift card, you can actually dispute it with Blackhawk Network (and this is enshrined in clause 6 of the gift card terms and conditions). In my experience though, Blackhawk Network customer service reps can be unhelpful a lot of the time, so I would not expect any transaction dispute to be an easy process…

I would be much more worried about a Coles Mastercard gift card or Activ Visa gift card or OnlyONE Visa gift card or Vanilla Visa gift card being hacked when compared to an Ultimate gift card.

      • +1

Thanks for the detailed reply :)

  • Does officeworks sell these cards and has price match/beat policy?
