  • Does this work with Android?

    • +3

The cable is generic, it should… although I haven't tested it myself…

        The cable is generic

        It's white.

        Thanks

    • Yes

The volume won’t be as loud but they work

      • +4

Work around is to use UAPP and volume is normal.

        • Does any USB Audio Player Pro android app work? Is there one that you recommend? Thanks!

          • +2

@able: I just use the one called USB Audio Player PRO by eXtream Software Development, been using it for over a year and it's good.

    • +1

Yes. No problems with my Pixel 5

    • Yes but not with iOS ;)
      Until the next iPhone.

    • They are very quiet on android, the Samsung works much better

  • +3

I just get a generic one from eBay for like $3-4 and it has been working perfectly fine for the past year.

    • My generic one from ebay not only didn't fit the 3.5mm bit properly, but it was awful sounding.

      • Mine too - I've got 1 cheapie, 1 that came with my Android phone, and the Apple one - Apple's sounds the best by far, and it's pretty damn cheap at this price.

The cheapie I bought of Aliexpress doesn't even sound correct at all :(

The Apple convertor is a great USB-C DAC!

  • Might be bit of a stretch, but would this work in a Switch Pro controller to get chat functionality?

    • No, would be nice though!

  • Awesome deal! Might be the best price/quality Apple product out there. Reviews are all excellent, especially when using iems, beating way more expensive alternatives.

Price match at JB and use perks to get it for $1.90.

    • Do they price match Amazon

      • Apparently the Brisbane store I asked to price match said they only match physical store price. YMMV

    • Tried and they price match but said that I can't use the perks voucher.

      • +1

try to add it in cart anyway, a lot of people managed to price match and used codes in the past.

      • +1

Price match over the phone, they can't stop you from using the perks voucher that way.

I just placed my order for collection 3 mins ago.

        • Did this and yep, works fine. Thanks

  • +1

how dafuq are you supposed to charge while listening though? this is kinda pointless

    • When iPhone gets USB C, the answer will be MagSafe. For iPad Pro, the Magic Keyboard has passthrough power.

    • +3

Do people really charge and listen to their phones?

      • +2

Yeah, I sleep with headphones on

      • Yes, thankfully my ROG 5s has a headphone jack and two USB-C ports.

    • +1

      wireless charging

    • +1
      • A larger / different dongle with USB-C passthrough and 3.5mm
      • Wireless charging
      • (Don't get dongle), buy the more expensive AirPods
    • Bro as if u haven't picked up some wireless headphones or iems on ozbargain

    • You can try this

      https://amzn.asia/d/5rFrmlS

    • FYI: People have been killed by charging while using headphones, when the charger leaked current.
When charging, use a bluetooth headset.

Having only one port for both is a safety feature.

      • Source?

          • @bargaino: Not exactly resounding support for that notion. Many of the stories seem to be low-effort reposts of the same story covered by this vice article, which was later retracted:

Correction: A previously published version of this story erroneously stated that electrocution was Mohd’s cause of death and that the electrocution was due to his earphones. The article has been updated to correct these errors.

Snopes didn't find any supporting evidence.

Obviously faulty chargers can be an issue, but at the point at which you're getting zapped with 240v when handling the charger, whether or not you're wearing headphones is likely irrelevant — especially given the chain of things that would have to go wrong within the phone for that kind of current and power to make it to your headphones in the first place.

            • @snep: The snopes article is for one particular report. There have been many others.
The common factor is badly designed chargers with poor isolation of mains voltage.
Getting a shock like that will rarely be harmful, but can be fatal in certain rare circumstances.
Headphones most certainly make a difference to the small risk. If you get a shock holding the phone you will probably drop it.
As the charger will not deliver enough power to kill by burns, the danger is in cardiac arrest, which requires sustained current.

My point is not to panic, but that not being able to use headphones and charge at the same time is a reasonable design decision on safety grounds. It will save lives.

              • @bargaino: So laptops should block you from using your headphones when the charger is plugged in? I think the correct solution is the one provided in the article you linked, which is to ban unsafe chargers from being sold.

                • @AwesomeAndrew: Easy there. I agree with you. Am just explaining their reasoning.

Personally, I hate it that my phone lacks a 3.5mm port.

  • +1

does not work on all android phones: my Realme 7 5g phone doesn't detect it properly and plays sound via speaker.
works fine on mac or windows laptop, though

  • They are very quiet with regards to volume..

    • Copy pasting the solution from elsewhere:

All you need to do to fix it on Android is download the UAPP trial, increase the hardware volume of the dongle through the app once, and it’s fixed permanently.

  • This have built in DAC (for Samsung phones and some other androids) ?

    • +1

I believe it is a DAC, like the Google equivalent for example

    • Yes built in DAC, quite good infact. But might have sound level issues with some phones. Can be fixed by changing the USB audio volume limit, see above comments.

  • dang paid $14 a week ago

  • +1

Works with Samsung S20+ though on the quiet side as has been mentioned.

      Here's the solution:

LOL who the hell still buys this?!

  • There are superior chi-fi dongles now, but they are harder to pick out of a crowd. This is a solid entry point for iOS/padOS devices.

    • chi-fi as in Hi-Fi from China?

      • Yes, that's been the common term for a while now. Most of the parts are manufactured there.

    • Suggestions to superior, similarly priced DACs?

  • Plug this into your charger to listen to electronic music ;)

  • I used this to plug my Google Pixel to my Car 3.5mm Aux port, The volume was so low, even at max volume.

  • I remember this got great reviews when it launched for the quality of the DAC and the great compatibility. So I bought one when I got my iPad Pro 11” in 2018. Haven’t used it since I opened it since I switched to AirPods for everything.
