You'd be lucky to get one…

Spoke to Jensen, he was so impressed with your insight that one of his team will be sending you a free RTX 4090, nice work

2.3kg? We have to stop using the word "laptop" for those.

    • 2.3kg just isn't that bad. It's very manageable. 4kg workstation/desktop replacements are where it's really a struggle.

It's a gaming laptop, did you expect a super slim notebook?

      • You use it on your lap?

        • +1

U got some weak legs then? Been using a laptop that weighs roughly 2 kilos for 3 years and never occured to me it was heavy, it's literally just 2 kilos you're complaining about.

Also the norm for gaming laptops isn't to be used on laps as far as I know, most people just put it on a desk.

      • It's a very low spec gaming laptop.

        • Gaming Laptop, it doesn't matter what the specs are since they are all very small and mobile compared to actual desktop GPU's and other parts. Gaming laptops carry a bunch of things regular office and work laptops don't.

          • +1

@LuslecGrace: More powerful gaming laptops that sip far more power like the Razer Blade (up to 3080ti+12800H) weigh less than this. Yes they also cost more because they're not using 4 year old chips.

Edit: various benchmarks put this mobile chip gpu at 60fps low settings for ps4 title games. With next gen games coming out right around the corner you'd struggle to run 30fps lowest settings on them (new plague tale for example).

            • +1

@JerraJones: While I agree on that, that won't change the fact that laptops made for gaming are and will generally be more heavier than normal laptops.

For anyone who is interested, you might need to watch this video

Yes faster card is faster, but that is price/performance at USA prices and even then they might have one off discounts to make it worth it. It depends if 20% more fps is worth it you over the price difference.

3060 laptops should be closing in on $1k soon.

    • I'd say 3050 is defo already sub $1k. 3060 still hovers around $1.1-$1.3k min.

      • any examples of this apart from the Dell Outlet?

        • Recent NUC Kraken with a full 140W 3060 was $1,200. The Nitro 5 with 95W 3060 was $1,099. Any Asus ROG with a RTX3060 seemed to hover around $1,400-1,600.

TUF to game on this one tbh

  • Some poor kid is gonna get this "gaming" laptop for Xmas

    • +4

Ehh, what do they care? They're not likely to play anything more intensive than Minecraft on it anyway.

      • -1

        They play Fortnite though

        • +1

Can't this GPU get well over 100fps at low settings?

          • @BROKENKEYBOARD: Low settings is no fun

            • @MuddyClear: In the eyes of people that have never had the ability to even game at low settings above 30 fps, 100 fps low settings would be a dream come true. Tweak it further then you got 60fps medium-low hybrid.

    • +2

Oops looks like the last two years I wasn't actually gaming on my laptop of identical specs, I was just "gaming".

Will have to get a refund, thanks for the insight.

      • +3

Yeah don't forget it's impossible to game on anything below a 3080! Ok! Sweet.

        • +2

          3080? Are you a peasant? Anything below a 4080 isn't gaming!

          • @LuslecGrace: 4080?! Pffftt may as well have been called a 4070. 4090 and a 4k 144hz monitor or you're not a gamer, you're just a noob

    • +5

Don't be that guy. Plenty of kids would be stoked to have a laptop with these specs.

      • +1

Some people aren't grateful to what they have while others dream of having even a fraction of it.

        Sadly he is that guy….

JB has the 3050 version for $1050 in the upcoming catalogue

MSI and Gigabyte might get close but once again, only Acer and Uncle Gerry are likely to do a 3060 deal for close to $1K

Funny how OzB's most disliked budget notebook brand and most hated retailer can combine and do a deal that everyone will be frothing over

  • Can I run a HTC Vive Cosmos using this? It says I need a GTX 980 or R9 or equivalent

    • Depends if that requirement is for minimum or is that recommended? Generally you can expect the 1650 to be 10-20% slower in average compared to a 980.

  • +1

At this price, why not spend the extra and get the Kraken M15?

    Better value and future proofing.

    • +2

You mean the $1300 one that's OOS and +50% more expensive?

    • +1

Because there is a $400 difference

Better value, yes, but a $900 budget is a $900 budget.

Personally if I were looking in this price range I'd probably pick up a Dell G15 with Ryzen 5 5600H, 16gb ram, 512GB ssd and a 3050 for $919 from the outlet and live with what the scratch/dent cosmetic damage is.

I'd buy it more as a internet surfing machine more than a games one. I wanted this laptop last year, was almost going to buy it…. but opted for the 2021 version instead (better videocard, bigger battery, better cooling etc). Asus and the TUF brand cop a bit of flack, but their systems are decent.

  • This say not available online, and it's OOS in Brisbane. Anyone find stock?

    • +1

Stock still available in VIC at some stores. But most is limited.
