This might be overkill though since most of the M.2 enclosures max out at around 1GB/sec and im sure any thunderbolt one would cost almost as much as this SSD itself.

Judging by threads on HUKD, looks like lots of WD (and Sandisk) products were priced extremely low. The heatsink version of this was £14, and the 2 TB sans-heatsink version was £20 (both expired now).
