Do you get any coles discount like the woolworths mobile?

    • +7

Just shop at Aldi and you'll save even more money.

This equates to $7.91 per month.

      • Unless you live in TAS

        • Or NT :)

    • +2

      nope but international calls

    • -2

Great value for GBs but terrible if you need reliable reception

      • I find Optus reception incredible, even in regional areas.

        • Depends where you are of course
The regions seem to be carved up between the big 3
Most (but not all) regions are covered by Telstra, less by Optus and least by Vodafone
I get black holes around Sydney with Optus but not with Telstra or Vodafone

          NSW Regional examples:
Merimbulla and Narooma almost exclusively Telstra - forget Vodafone
Forster/Tuncurry/Diamond Beach/Harrington are good with Telstra abd Optus but again not Vodafone

Fel free to post more examples

          • @HeWhoKnows: Even Telstra has black spots here in Melbourne, such as outdoors along the Yarra River walk in Burnley, Optus and Vodafone have a tower in this area so do not suffer the same issue.
The drive from Melbourne to Mildura, which is 600 K's is covered the entire way by both Optus and Telstra, which is mostly wheat farming and bushland.
Optus in Mildura itself has great coverage with both Optus and Telstra, equal to each other.
Anyway, it'll be different for everyone, obviously.

            • @SimAus007: Rule of thumb
If you have a partner then make sure you are on different networks to ensure you have the best overall coverage.
So Telstra + Optus OR Telstra + Vodafone
Also but lastly Optus + Vodafone

              • @HeWhoKnows: One of us is on Optus and the other on Vodafone, so we always have coverage (where we travel to). I can't remember a time where we haven't.
If there has been it must have been somewhere we didn't notice.

      • +1

Telstra has a huge blackspot in the concord - rhodes area. Slow speeds under 10mbps while optus was around 300 in the concord area

    • +1

The best deal this week came from Amaysim where their long expiry plans where 50% off whilst stocks lasted

And they didnt last long past the day they were posted

I got Amaysim long expiry 365 day 60GB plan for only $60 on Monday 21st
I think they were gone by Tuesday

  • +2

Is it $95 or is it $99 like it says in the picture?

Either way, I've been looking for something to replace the amaysim black friday deal from last year and so far this is looking like the best option!

    • +1

Same boat! So far this is the winner, but I’d recommend keeping an eye out here over the next week or so

    • +1

Same here hoping for boost or amaysim black friday deal but this looking good

    • -1

Catch on Optus is $150 for 240GB.

    • +1

Amaysim 1/2 price deals now out
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/738548

    • If you don’t need the extra 60GB then same 365 day 60GB deal with amaysim was only $60 (half price) until this Black Friday as highlighted in another post was a better deal but appears to have been pulled

  • New services only

Does this mean I can’t port my number in?

    • +1

      You can

    • +1

Generally that just means if you're an existing customer you would have to switch providers to become eligible.

      • +1

Thanks. The previous offer stated new ‘customers’ only which was pretty clear. But this offer says new ‘services’ only, hence my confusion.

  • +2

Good offer. A bit less than the Voda offer on special at Woolworths, that has 5G but no international calling.
Still waiting to see what Amaysim has for BF…

    • +3

5G is over rated it's not worth the extra battery drain.

      • at 350mps on 4G plus and 5G running on a line ball then no real premium…I am about 300m from a mast.

  • “New services only” - can an Optus customer port in to this Coles offer that’s “powered by Optus”?

    • Yes. I usually swap between Coles and Catch. Both ‘powered by Optus’. No dramas

  • +8

Obligatory warning. There is no support. I had to abandon this on a service as it somehow is a worse MVNO that the wholesaler Optus offers, I suspect QoS is being used in some areas.

    • I've been having no problems here on Coles Mobile over the past few months. I'm using it mainly in the Rockhampton QLD area.

    • Thanks for the warning. Seemed like a good offer. Will keep info given by you in mind

      • +1

It is a great offer. You get the full 4G coverage service on an Optus MVNo that you get from Optus retail apart from currently no 5G on the MVNo.

        • Thanks for info. Yeah, seems good.

        • +2

I would say "Only 4G". There's spots where I lose 4G but I have H+ but I get no internet, which sucks. So Coles is only really good where you have strong 4G, anywhere borderline and it's no good. It's enough to make me want to avoid Optus MVNos from now on.

          • +1

@Fantalia: You'll get the same from Optus retail too well on 4G any how.

    • I had to call support a couple of times during the year I was with them and found them to be pretty helpful, better than Lebara but not as good as Telstra.

  • From my previous experience, internet coverage is very very bad compared to Optus!

    • +3

But every Optus MNVo get the full 4G Optus coverage footprint. So i don't see how that can be. The same 4G access you get as if you were a retail Optus customer on 4G. It's just Coles Mobile doesn't get 5G yet.

  • +2

Would not recommend based on personal experience

Coles’ coverage is horrible on the Gold Coast. Mums been on this plan and has constant calling/mobile data issues. Better off foregoing the cost and joining another provider.

  • New services only*
I have ported out last month, can I port back in?

  • +1

Recommendation from personal experience, stay away from Optus. Very poor or no coverage at all in many areas.

    • +1

With the second best coverage it makes you think how bad Vodafail is in comparison!

  • I still have unopened 120gb coles sim card from this deal, still have receipt. Do they usually refund sim cards?

    • +1

That's change of mind on a mobile phone SIM card. I don't think you're getting a refund on that.

This person had the same idea trying to return a Coles Mobile SIM for a refund. And got knocked back as the system not allowing it. It was a long time ago but i can't see it being any different today. Coles don't refund SIM cards. So you're stuck with it i'm afraid.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/596098

      • Thanks for finding that. I'll see what they say anyway, worst case is no.

        • I think the system doesn't allow for a refund period even a few seconds after you buy it. It's like trying to return a gift card for a refund.

          • @hollykryten: Oh… I bought it on a gift card too ahaha

            • @CodeXD: Well from memory if my memory serves me right when buying the Coles Mobile SIM. The system prints out a Coles Mobile voucher code that you use when activating the SIM card. The card from say the $150 starter pack itself is basically free but it's the voucher code which you're paying for and which activates the actual service. Well so actually it's a prepaid voucher which you're asking to get refunded. They don't refund prepaid voucher codes for a change your mind. But it's the same thing when buying gift cards they are also not refundable. All prepaid vouchers and card stuff they don't refund.

So good luck trying to get a refund with it but i very much doubt you'll get it.

    • Go to the optus website and find a location where they have zero coverage at all.

Then tell them you live or work around there and say it's not fit for purpose and get a refund under consumer law provisions.

  • +5

Maybe if it’s not too personal, if you guys can add approximate locations it may help others decide if they should proceed with this offer.
    Just a thought.

    • Any street in Tyalgum , NSW 2484
      or
      MURWILLUMBAH NSW 2484

abyssal Reception … 90% no internet !!!! Calls dropping off … etc … etc …
Coles Mobile is well aware but will NOT refund or Credit … very patchy on the Gold Coast … 1 and 2 bars !!! On a Blue thick phone 📱

  • Just go ahead and buy it for your parents if they have Wi-Fi at home. Mine are usually getting 50% discount on renewal with data roll-over.

    • How do you get a 50% discount…I've seen just 20% on recharge / renewal

      • +1

        It's a targeted offer.

  • +2

I got this deal last year - legit great deal. I have been using it until now and it’s been almost a year. Can confirm no coverage issue in the Sydney metro area. Only contacted customer service to enquire about recharge discount and not service - was ok depending on which person u got.

    • could you please share if you travel on trains at all? if you do how's the signal like around Central - town hall area?
been using belong and there was big black spot around those 2 stations

      • Thanks for your question mate! I don’t really travel on train as I take the bus almost all the time. However I don’t feel like I would lose signal during the few times I walked past central or town hall station. I could be wrong although I found it generally quite ok. Belong uses Telstra though so might be different?

        • Thanks for your reply!
I definitely don't get signal in middle of the train tunnel between those 2 stations(but I can get signal within the rest of the train tunnel), I do however get signal within the station.
So I am thinking of moving away from belong.
The reason I ask you the question is so I have an idea of which provider to move to.

          • @OMGJL: I remember when I was on the train passing that tunnel I did not notice I would lose signal? I guess I just mainly listen to Spotify and that seems ok. Again it would be good if someone could verify this for you so you have more confidence!! Does this trouble you a lot - isn’t passing the tunnel quite quick in general? Also understanding it would not be ideal if there was no signal.

            • @GEE-SHOCK: It's all tunnel whole way through those 2 stations…Which means there is no network at all in between the 2 stations. So not getting signal is not ideal at all.

I use YouTube Music so I can have some songs pre-loaded, I need to make sure pre-open a few OzB pages so I have enough to read reaching Central.

              • @OMGJL: That is interesting as optus runs the network in the train tunnels

                • +1

@Quarter Pounder: In case you missed my previous comments, I am with Belong(Telstra MVNO) which have no internet access between those train tunnels…

                  • @OMGJL: My bad, that is strange as optus is supposed to manage other telcos too down there.

  • Used it once, good value, international calls - bonus. But couldn’t use the internet in the local shopping Center.

    • You probably also wouldn't be able to use internet there from other carriers too. Sounds like mobile signal can't penetrate the shopping center.

      • Agree ! I am with Boost which is the Telstra 5G network, no internet connection at certain places inside Garden City Shopping Centre in Upper Mount Gravatt Brisbane.

  • What if you already have this but haven't activated yet, will activating now get you the extra 60gb?

    • No i don't think so. Any bonus inclusions you get happens for at the time of purchase. So whatever bonuses that may have been happening when you purchased is what you were stuck with. However i think getting the included bonus expires after 30 days from date of purchase if you hadn't activated the service by then. After that you just don't get any bonus but the normal service amount.

So you only get this extra 60GB data if you're buying from when this deal starts.

  • +3

Last yr for black Friday picked up 365 day amaysim for $60

    • How many GB was it?

      • +1

60GB but i still have 30+ GB left as I am mostly on wifi, so don't really care about GBs, just want cheapest unlimited calling.

    • That's what I am looking for again this year

      • +1

60gb. I got a similar deal in December last year. I still have most of my data left as i use WiFi at home. This plan is fine for me. I was already with amaysim but if you ask them nicely on chat they usually give you the deal, or give credit so that it matches the deal in cost. I've done it a few times

  • Anyone know if the activate by (date) or within 30 days condition is actually enforced? Or putting it differently, is possible to activate past that date by say calling their customer support to ask them to do it?

    • The 30 days is just for the bonus inclusion. Activate after that and the bonus data is forfeit. But you should be able to activate after that date but you will only get the standard 60GB of data.

  • Do you know if smart watches work with these kind of plans? Like mobile on this with Optus network then separately pay for the Watch plan

  • Internet is slow 🐌

  • +5

Buy and activate by 29/11 is quite ridiculous. Only a week from sale starts to deadline.

  • Can we pay by Coles gift cards? Have a bunch to discard by next year

  • +1

Have this one from previous $120 deal. Call quality is not great, especially international, so I have been calling people up, then ask them to get on wifi so we can facetime… Postcode 4551.

    • +1

Did you get VoLTE and VoWiFi activated?. The call quality should be good. It just sounds like you haven't got it activated and it's falling back to crappy 3G for calls. You need to get on chat with Coles Mobile if you don't have VoLTE/VoWiFi yet. Just make sure your phone can do VoLTE first.

  • Good deal.. thanks, OP!

  • Coles do have wifi calling now which can help if you're in a fringe area.

I got this deal last year.

If I recall took me a full 2 weeks to port out which was a pain and then only gave me 60gb data.

Bordering on unusable data speeds in Canberra CBD Monday to Friday in the mornings.

Switching over to the Boost deal because of this and the stuff ups at the start.

    YMMV

    • +1

Bordering on unusable data speeds in Canberra CBD Monday to Friday in the mornings.

Switching over to the Boost deal because of this and the stuff ups at the start.

Funny you say that, I was at 2 Canberra meet up in the past week and everyone had issues with boost trying to sign into the event.

    • Funny that. I live in a QLD regional city area and Coles Mobile is great. It's even better in the CBD. Yet it's crap in the nations capital?. Well it's actually Optus because Coles Mobile is essentially a rented Optus connection. It's probably a bit over saturated with all the pollies and staff with Optus.

  • Gong to get this, with all the optus issues making people leave the network should fly

  • Note terms say activation after 29 November only get 60GB data (no bonus).

My current Boost yearly runs out on 15 December. Probably still worth it.

  • +1

Had pretty poor internet since switching to this, often slow and I feel speed limited. Have previously been with Optus direct and had better. Good for international if that swings it for you, but if data is your thing then less confident. (In Geelong)

  • +2

I have just ported out of Boost 365 to this 72 hours ago. Quick port in process to Coles from Boost, done in under 20 minutes fully activated, 4 bars inside house against Boost (Full Telstra) of 3 bars, speed test via Telstra speed test was Boost 10.6 Mpbs down versus Coles at 28.5 Mpbs, same server (Windsor, Melbourne). No issues with speed or connectivity at all, very happy customer. Located in Ringwood, Vic.

  • I have 107 GB left from last years deal lol, got a renew offer for $96
VoWIFI is great as Optus coverage is meh!

  • Avoid if you might need international roaming one day

    • buy a local SIM / eSIM

      • Won't work for me but thanks for the suggestion

  • Has anyone on Coles Mobile been successful in doing a conference call - ie. merging 2 callers?

    • I want to know the same

    • yep worked for me

  • Probably a stupid question.. but remember reading it on a previous post that coles mobile sim doesn't work well on new phones like iPhone 14 series.. any idea if that's still the case ?

  • Bought & activated this morning, came from boost network but a month before was with Coles mobile. I only got 60gb instead of 120gb. Had a online chat and they said they will investigate and get back within 48 hours. :(
