Apple iPad Pro M1 12.9-inch 128GB Wi-Fi (Space Grey) [5th Gen] $1449 + Del (C&C) @ JB Hi-Fi (PB $1376.55 @ Officeworks Expired)

270

Great price for the Apple iPad Pro 12.9-inch M1 128GB Wi-Fi and almost as good as capable as the new release with a much smaller pricetag. To save a little bit more money can even get a gift cards using Shop back for an extra 2%. I successfully got Officeworks to beat the price yesterday and picked it up for under $1350 after cash back.

Not bad considering that Apple is selling the M2 equivalent for $1900 on their website.

Not sure why the previous one says expired. This ‘deals on iPad pro’ has been going for a few weeks now. Unfortunately not many colour/capacity configurations available, and the discount is t overly enticing compared to original price (but may be when compared to the price increased M2).

This deal is for the price of it at Officeworks… When the original was posted Officeworks was indicating that they were out of stock so they couldn't price beat this but now they can't so not a duplicate.

  • OP. Did you managed to claim cashback after buying from Officeworks? How?
And do you think I could claim TRS with this purchase?

    • -1

I'm not sure about TRS but I don't see why not… Although the cash back is by purchasing gift cards from Shop back using the swap over gift cards. Only 2% but still not bad.

    • Cashback is from SB by buying GCs @ 2% discount.

    • You just have to declare it again on the way back in, and if its over the duty free limit ($900/adult, $450/kids) then you have to pay the GST again. So depends whether you’re travelling alone or with companions. Judging by your username, you would be over the limit

      • So if you're travelling alone, can you claim $900 of the $1400 ipad? Or would you not be able to claim anything? I didn't realise there was a limit!

        • You can claim anything on the way out, there is no limit to it. Its just on the way in, you need to declare anything you bring in that is purchased overseas or claimed GST refund before leaving. And if its over the limit eg. $900/adult, you will have to pay GST on them. If you travel as family, you can combined those limit.

Its hard for them to nail you on something you bought overseas especially if you removed the original packaging (because you can say that you brought it with you from Australia), and they normally won't crack down on this.. but if you claimed GST on your way out then they have it in their system and they can easily check for it. They do consider depreciation in value though. So if you claim a $900 products, it would definitely depreciate below $900 on the way back in.

          • @John: So if I buy this Ipad today. On way out off AUS I claim TRS. Does the Ipad still need be sealed in the box?
On the way back should I get rid off the box before entering Australia?

            • @Lone star: No it does not need to be sealed and in the box. And no, does not matter if you get rid of the box before entering, the iPad is what matters.

Good price. Been using my 2018 iPad Pro every day for the past 3 years and still going strong. Still super fast, and no comparable tablet on the market.

    • Yeah they definitely build them to last… With the M1 chip I'm sure this will be good for many years to come.

  • Are they as bad to watch media on as what I'm reading? People seem mostly upset about the aspect ratio.
For youtube and netflix, is it that big of a deal?

    • no

    • I watched the entire first season of Stranger Things on my 4.7-inch iPhone 7 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Strangely, your brain quickly adjusts to whatever screen size you’re watching.

    • No, I’ve used it almost everyday for that since the start of the year and it’s been fantastic. Nice screen and speakers. No issues with the aspect ratio either.

    • My partner got one last year with the intention of only using it for art but has ended up using it all of the time for media consumption. The screen and speakers are both really good.

  • This or macbook air?

    • This MacBook Air screen is average, not bright enough too, also has light bleed issues luck of the draw, also speakers are average
REF: Have had both currently Air 2 but selling it today.
Currently using a 11" M1 but if buying 12" or bigger I would get the iPad 12.9".

  • I got 12.9 but I sold it, just too big for my everyday consumption, got the 11 version and happy as ever with it.

    • Same had the 12.9" for a year sold it 3 months ago for the 11", I had one for 2 years before the 12.9, lucky I only dropped a few hundred after a year.

    • Appreciate this comment, been tossing up between 12.9 and 11

That said the mini led screen on the 12.9 is pretty awesome

        • Definitely 12.9 better display

    • Hmmm thanks I was eyeing the older 12.9 inch models on Apple's refurbished page which get sold quickly. I think last gen models were going for around $800 to $900
      , 2nd gen for $600 to $700.
Was going to pay with Apple giftcards from the flybuys deal but maybe I will just stick with my 9th gen iPad for now which is 10.2 inch close enough to 11.

Maybe the large display of the 12.9 will be ideal for a smart home control centre, I hear with the new widgets available you can have large to click icons for those features. Expensive for just using it for that though. I don't really have a smart home either.

Anyone uses the ipad pro for note taking? specifically Goodnotes and notablilty on the ipad? Wondering if 12.9" is better than the 11". Unable to decide…..

    • +2

For note taking, I would say 11" is better. 12.9" is much better for stuffs like photo/video editing or graphic related or watching movies, reading mags etc as the screen is much better compared to 11".

    • +1

I had the same predicament but ultimately went with the 12.9" due to a comment about being able to take notes while having a document open beside Goodnotes.

I was happy to take notes on my friend's 11" iPad Pro but having any other documents opened while taking notes made me miss my 12.9" iPad Pro for that extra bit of space.

Hope my experience can help in any way.

      • thanks mate - are u using goodnotes/notability on the ipad pro 12.9 as well?

        • Yeah, still using Goodnotes.

There was a reason I didn't use Notability but can't quite remember anymore.

The 12.9" is also great for media consumption and if you can afford it, I would highly recommend the 12.9".

If all you're looking to do is take notes, the 11" would be more than sufficient but then you should be asking whether you really need to be spending that amount of money on only taking notes.

  • are we going to get a sharper price over black friday?

  • Would love to see a similar deal on the Wifi + cellular version
