  • Another concern should be how snappy is the app on your smart TV… As far as I can see, it feels a bit slow on my LG c2

  • I use Plex and watch stuff via my friend's server/Plex.
Is there any use for me in getting a Lifetime pass?

    • Nope. Unless you want to be a good friend and gift it to them if they don't have it.

    • Not unless you wanna start a server of your own. Or just REALLY want tv series intro skipping (granted your friend also has plex pass and intro skipping enabled)

  • Jellyfin!

Any chance it’s cheaper to purchase from Turkey with a VPN¿

I don’t want to be rude, but you want others to read your comment and answer it. While you haven’t read others who have already given the answers

  • Anyone else using Emby instead?

    • I am, gave up on Plex when they sold out (I still have my lifetime pass), the android app was redesigned and was terrible to use, bugs were not been fixed and the forums were are nightmare, haven’t bothered to check up on them in ages to see if they have improved. Emby is great, does everything Plex does without the crap, so impressed I bought the Emby lifetime pass, and the forums are actually useful if you have a problem!

I am still surprised to see so much hype with Plex, they were the best once, but that’s long gone, with their focus on streaming content, unless that’s specifically what you want, I would make sure you check out the alternatives…

  • Noob question here
I have been using AirVideo HD to access my family videos from PC
Would like to change to other media server since AirVideo hasn’t update for years

Can I set Plex to not share to any except myself and family member? Or set password?
Not willing to risk my personal stuff being searchable via the internet

    Thanks

    • Yep! Not possible to have it publicly accessible, has to be manually shared to other users.

  • Anyone with cheekily acquired content have advice on how to automate subtitle renaming for movies downloaded? Separate sub folder causes Plex to be unable to read it, so it requires me to rename the whole srt file, and move it to the movie folder for Plex to read

    • If you're using Radarr and Sonarr to acquire content (check them out if not) you can also use Bazarr for subtitles. It'll automatically grab subtitles for shows/movies that don't have subtitles. It handles the folder structure and renaming by itself granted you download them through it. Can also manually grab subtitles through it if you want something else, and it uses metadata to find subs that will most likely be a perfect match.

    What's this?

  • while we’re on the plex subject, can someone recommend a 4k bluray drive that works well with both mac and windows (portable preferred or internal + case combo). I have number of my fav movies, shows and docos on bd/uhd discs and sometimes wanting to watch them on computer

Honestly ripping and compressing a bluray to a reasonable size and decent codec is going to take a lot longer then simply downloading the file already done.

Been using Plex for over 10 years. It's come a long way and been paying monthly to show support to the devs. Only been recently on a paid plan side just because I started sharing my server and for mobile streaming.

I don't know when, but I recall it being $99 at one point on sale.

  • Can't see any use for Plex as i haven't even touched my hard drives full of terabytes of movies in years. Any other good uses for it?

      Music?

Just delete them all and you'll feel free, haha.
Guess HDD fail eventually too, but probably some good stuff off get sick of streaming. Shows seem more popular than movies these days and can just stream most stuff anyway.

Plex offers a better experience then the other streaming services, it completely depends if you watch movies or tv shows though.

  • How do you get A$119?
Following the link or going direct to Plex site I get US$ prices, US$119 discounted to US$89, which today is about A$132.

    • You'll need to go to https://www.plex.tv/en-au/ and log into your account.

This should show up as AUD, once you enter the promotion code, itd drop down to $119.99

  • I just tried 5 minutes ago , I got the error message "This promo/gift code is invalid or expired."
