  • Any bulk deals on the Shelly 1 Plus?

I assumed the Shelly 1 are not officially approved for Australia, but the Shelly 1 Plus is? Trying to avoid issues when I ask a sparky to then install these.

    • +2

Thanks for reaching out! Yes there will be deals on the plus range later in the week.

  • The Shelly 1 WiFi Switch, looks really good for some 48V DC switching I want to do. I have seen lots of cheap aliexpress AC only controllers, this looks more versatile. Anybody had experience with these?

    • +1

Look up the forums. Shelly is very well-regarded and has some very powerful features. You can run everything locally which is a must in Home Automation.

  • +1

Such great devices… I used one for for my garage door opener and it works a treat.

Anyone know if it'll eventually support matter?

    • Do you need a sparky to install it for your garage door? I keep seeing people in America installing everything without a sparky, which seems concerning, but then saying for garage doors it's OK without one? How did you install yours?

      • Different voltages in the US, so it's less dangerous. The Shelly 1 can work on 12v, so you don't need an electrician for your garage door.

        • Yeah, I know US has 110V instead of our 240V, but playing with electricity always seemed crazy. But awesome to know the Shelly 1 can be installed without a sparky, thanks!

      • +1

No, no sparky. Although, you'd probably want some sort of basic knowledge of electronic circuits, just to understand how the Shelly relay works and how to connect it..

I just installed it on the OSC (open/stop/close) DC line coming out of the garage opener.. that's normally used for the hardwired push button switches. it's not 12v.. measured it to be ~38v DC.

        • Awesome, thanks for the heads up!

  • Great deal on the Shelly 1 - I've been following it for a few days and saw it was buy 10 get 1 free, so an extra 2 free is great! I'm not sure if we'll manage to get a sparky out soon enough for a quote to capitalise, but I hope we can someone out next week!

We're trying to decide if we should go with Shelly 1 relays with dumb switches or go full smart switch. Out of curiosity, has anyone seen a glass panel light switch (like the zigbee one that OP sells) that doesn't have an on/off indicator? We're thinking of maybe going with dumb glass switches and Shelly relays, but are worried that the indicator could go out of sync if you turn the light on manually from the switch, right? At least with a normal switch it's not the end of the world if it's out of sync, but it would be a little weird to see the light be off while the indicator is on, or vice versa?

Also OP: If I have a 2 way switch (I have a room with a switch on either end for one light, so it can be turned on/off from either end) will I need 1 x Shelly 1 Relay for that, or will I need 2 and have one behind each switch?

    • Hello Mate! The new range of Zigbee switches we have (All white and all black) has the blue off-status indicator removed as we found it annoying at night, especially in bedrooms. The red indicator is only on when the light is on, which is great when you have multi-gang switches. For the 2 way, you set one switch as a dummy, then set the devices to mirror each other in the Zigbee hub.

    • +1

For shelly 2 way you only need one relay connected at the switch that has the wire going to the lights. The 2-way switch is wired as normal.

      • That's good to know about the Shelly relays. Makes it easy to figure out how many I'll need for sure then :).

  • Can someone help me understand Shelly1 Vs Shelly1 Plus? I thought the former was not technically certified in Australia? Just trying to work out by choice to purchase

    • I thought the plus had overvoltage trip and Bluetooth, the rest is about the same

      • Yes, the plus range includes Bluetooth for easier set up.

    • They are both certified for use in Australia. Otherwise, we would not sell them.

  • +1

check this video mate for the difference…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYrcVueKZIA..Looks like shelly plus 1 is younger bro (latest version) of shelly 1 with few differences.

  • As part of renovation, I am thinking of buying shelly device for my home to automate all led downlights in rooms with dimmer, ceiling fans, designer lights in living & dining room, double garage door, external up/down lights. It will be new installation of all lights & ceiling fans (need to buy all lights and fan as well)..Can anyone please suggest which relay I should buy i.e shelly plus 1, shelly plus 1 pm, shelly plus 2 PM? its quite confusing..Thanks in advance for your help

    • For lights we always suggest the shelly dimmer. Now for the relay devices it will depend if you have a neutral wire at the switch, if you do, we would recommend the Shelly 1pm plus (1 relay) or 2pm plus (2 relays) if not then the Shelly 1L

      • Can you elaborate on defaulting to the dimmer for all lights? Futureproofing reasons in case you want to install dimmer lights in the future?

  • I have hubitat and for some reason zwave not working fine at my home (perhaps due to some of the metal beam around the house and it created a faraday cage effect, unsure), but zigbee and wifi works fine.

I wonder whether you sell in wall zigbee relay for 1-4 gang light switches? AFAIK shelly is wifi, right?

    Thanks

    • Yes, Shelly is wifi. We have Zigbee in wall dimmer modules and the relay module should be here by the end of the month.

BUY 2X OZ SMART ZIGBEE DIMMER SWITCH GET 1 FREE
      Regular price $129.98

      • Thanks for your reply; I noticed with "OZ SMART ZIGBEE DIMMER SWITCH" hubitat is not written as a compatible hub?

        • +1

It hasn't been tested yet. If you are willing to give it a go, we have a 30-day change-of-mind return policy. We don't have one in the office to test, unfortunately.

      • I’m interested in the oz smart zigged dimmer.
Just wanted to know as the smart things are new to me.
If I wanted to keep everything in my Philips hue ecosystem and I just wanted a few bedrooms to have dimming function. Will i only need a sparky to install 1 of these dimmers per room?

Want to stick to zigbee (local) as wifi has always had lag for me as it needs to relay commands through an app which is usually cloud based and latency is based on the server.

  • Offering any deals on the Switchbot Hub by itself?

    • +1

No sorry only in the packs

  • +3

Can you do something smaller…say buy 4 Shelly 1 get 1 free.

13 x Shelly 1 would be too many for most people I would think…especially for a first purchase.

    • +2

Sure, bookmark our Black Friday page for updates. I have a feeling that a smaller shelly package deal will be coming up.

      • Thanks, I'm keen to try a few but can't yet see a use for 13. It would be great if there were small packs of PM ones.

      • I've been checking regularly but nothing seems to have changed since the original post 4 days ago.

I'll check once more later today but if nothing has changed will purchase the Shelly 1 modules elsewhere as can't afford to wait any longer.
