Didn't use discounted gift cards, I herby revoke your OZB license.

      • +10

Discounted gift cards would have revoked the 10% cashback and the $30 Commbank cashback.

Please hand in yours good sir, I'll see you off

        • +4

Not if you collected a coles visa gift card at 10 percent then bought a woolworths visa gift card to buy a coles myer gift card at coles and then used that gift cards to buy more coles visa gift cards (essentialy creating an infinite money glitch) until they run out of visa gift cards, then go online to buy TGG gift cards at a further discount with your truck load of visa gift cards you spent an entire week accruing.

I hereby revoke your internet usage license and banish you to the dark ages.

    Just be careful with these..

seems the new firmware locks out 3rd party ink and cartridges.

If you get one don't do any firmware updates..

    • +13

The ACCC should look into this, if that is the case.

Also, they should acknowledge this if it is true, so that people can factor this in before purchase.

      • +4

yeah I have an older mono and was looking to upgrade and was reading this thread

        https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/35qvkyx3?p=9

A new set of 4 colours genuine toner is around $550

But to be fair the devices are pretty solid. I've had 0 issues with my older ones printing wireless from Mac/iPad, scanning etc..

A new set of 4 colours genuine toner is around $550

          You flagged the problem.

I have a black and white laser MFC and a colour laser that is used like once or twice a month.

Even at $100 for a set of colour toners it is not as economical as $15 for a 3rd party MFC black.

I think it only blocks the ones which existed at the time of the update's release, so if the cartridge was manufactured after that and has an updated chip it'd probably work.

    • All those printer companies are doing the same. My previous Epson ink-tank printer has almost half full of ink but the printer says other parts are no longer usable (over a year and a half) and stopped working. The replacement Brother ink-tank printer works well but the eBay replacement inks are not recognisable and stopped working.

The only possible home office choice is getting a new printer once the previous one runs out of ink or cartridge.

    • +1

How new are we talking? Was it a recent update?

      • +2

December/January from memory, their support wouldn’t acknowledge it was because of an update but also wouldn’t troubleshoot until after I sent them a photo of the unit with the toners visible…but guess what happened when I replaced the toners with genuine ones…it all worked perfectly

Printers are a mature product. there's been no advances in the technology that would put the price up. They should be falling in price. The world is changing so people increasingly don't need them. But printer manufacturers are trying to maintain their cashflow by forcing customers to buy or subscribe to their ink. By doing that they are just accelerating the demise of their industry by making people pay more for less, resulting in even fewer people wanting to pay it.

can this printer scan 2 sides or just 1 side only?

    • +4

One side. It also doesn't stitch the scans if you're doing it from the printer, it only works with the brother iPrint&Scan software.

    • Just about to ask same question, anyone know if this does duplex scanning? just come through the fine prints and doesn’t mention anything about it.

      beat me to it… thanks

    • +3

This one only does single side scanning.. You need to look at the 3770 for duplex scanning

      • +6

single sided scanning is a deal breaker in 2022

        • +1

Agree! And to be honest, that iPrint&Scan app is terrible to use too.

Few days ago trying to scan a form for medicare, it was painful to scan one side then another, then more painful to combine 2 PDFs together and have to sort out the pages…it was killing me

It is 2022, duplex scanning should be a basic function!

          • +1

@RooBun: I'd say I scan as much as I print these days.

I've had duplex scanning for the past 10 years, would shit me going back to manual double sided scanning (or printing for that matter).

    • yeah, you need to checkout either 3770 or 3750 (officeworks only).

I was in the same boat but in the end I just bought 2750 from officeworks with price beat from shoppingexpress ($279).

    • my oki 363 does duplex scans.

says it's got Automatic 2-sided (Duplex) Print

    Downgrade my Brother MFC-L3770CDW
    Steps to take:

Download Bradmin Professional 4 here: https://support.brother.com/g/s/id/smb/pro4/pro4-b-function.…

    Download Firmware Files from https://mega.nz/file/pqpVQLBS#ZeGGNVY0DooiVYSWnEo1DYbyhSJyFB…
Inside are a few folders. You'll need SUB1 and Firmware3730 Folder

L3730 and L3770 use the same Firmware

In Bradmin Professional 4 change the Password of your Printer (righthand side), default should be "initpass", else its on a sticker on the backside next to "PWD" (mine had no sticker)

Rightclick on your printer and choose Send File.

Send the SUB1 file first, wait until it is finished.

    Send the Firmware File next.

Everything should work with D00KJY_T and D00K1_F (Firmware T and Sub 1.58

    To Note:

    D00K1_A equals 1.54

    D00K1_H equals 1.60

The main Firmware Files have their names inside their filenames. It's the last letter.

Always be careful when messing with the firmware, there is a possibility you can brick the device.

I got everything from that pdf from https://www.docdroid.net/KVWD9DB/so-pdf

The downside is this may void warranty if they decide to investigate the firmware

      • Please, explain how?

        • If it is a warranty return repair and its discovered that a 3rd party firmware has been installed. Go buy a new car and flash the ECU and take it back for warranty repair. Get ready for a rejection.

          • @vinni9284: It's not a 3rd party firmware, it's just rolling it back to an older one?

    • what for?

      • +4

new firmware prevents you from using any form of aftermarket toner, it will show no toner on the lcd display

        • So the same toner started working again after the downgrade?

          • @Ryballs: yes, the new firmware blocks non-genuine toner, you can try move the chip from old toner to new, it will show empty toner because page count is high and will require you to monitor the quality of the prints

    Extra $20 off with SudentBeans

Just an FYI - I bought one of these, it broke on the third print and Brother wanted to send out a technician to fix the issue. I sent it back for a refund.

Specifically, the printer would not calibrate correctly. Pages were printing way out of format. Despite four hours of total troubleshooting, with and without Brother, i felt like the device was too fickle to keep.

    • +1

Possibly bad luck. I have two of these within my extended family; good value for money and working fine.

The colour image print quality might not be the best but good value for money with plenty of after market toners at reasonable price.

    • +1

ive got the 3750 and its well built and robust, no issues, maybe yours was built on a friday

  • Just called to place an order over the phone. Was sent a quote for only $339 for some reason. Paid with 4% off gift card too. Not too shabby.

    Super cheap!

I have had this printer for approx 12mths now. Firmware is up to date, and I use third party toners with no issues.

This printer does print random yellow dots which is annoying AF.
"They are unique to your machine and can be used to identify where documents are printed. There was a government leak a few years ago where this exact feature identified the machine and who printed it. It is a security feature to help track classified documents and prevent counterfeiting among other things. There is no way to get rid of them"

  • Thanks. Got one!

  • Is there a code used fo this? I'm getting $449
