Dell G15 15.6" FHD Gaming Laptop: 12th Gen i5-12500H, RTX 3050, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD $1199 + Delivery ($0 C&C/in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

I wanted to buy a PS5 from JB Hi-Fi using the 19% BigW ultimate gift card deal. But by the time I purchased the gift cards, the PS5 was sold out and I didn't know what to do with the $790 worth of gift cards.

Now, after some research, I am planning to buy this entry level gaming laptop and then upgrade the RAM and SSD if needed.

Pros: 3050 at an affordable price.
Cons: 250 nits Display.

Dell sells a 16GB RAM 512GB SSD version for $1999. I believe you can upgrade the JB Hi-fi one yourself for an extra $160.

So, with the Coles gift card deal, you can get this laptop for $1020 and then upgrade it for another $160, eventually saving $819.

If you have a JB Hifi Perks coupon, it will be an additional $10 savings too.

This will be my first gaming Laptop. I am not even sure what games I would be playing other than AOE (my eyes are not too great at handling games anymore). Wish me good luck :)

  • Where do I find the 19% BigW ultimate gift card deal?

I have updated the OP with the link.

    • Sorry, I've looked through that thread linked above as to the 10% ultimate gift cards. Not seeing how you can turn that into 19%? Thx

      • Everyday rewards extra gives you additional 10%.

I have another dell gaming laptop with a 120hz screen. The screen is vivid and bright for gaming. There's no ghosting. Superb for gaming. I have got light bleed but after more than a year and it's only noticeable on boot

Even they are all 120hz same size, does not mean they share the same panel model. They can be 2 different panels. Unless yours is G15 2022, it is most likely not the same thing.

        • OK fair enough. Well mine would be the g15 2021. So if an earlier model did not ghosting, I would not think the 2022 would have. Panels get better with time (better manufacture etc) so it should be good for the g15 2022

Unfortunately the way it works is that the same series of laptops may have components sourced from different locations. It's a means of mitigating supply issues. Two people may have the same spec laptops, but it doesn't mean all the components will be from the same manufacturers.

        • OK. I get your point 👍🏾

  • What is the battery life on these like when not gaming? Suitable for a student?

This is a heavy laptop for school use at 2kg. Unfortunately battery life on Intel 12th gen laptops is very mediocre overall. This is due to the Intel CPU being power hungry where it reaches it maximum TDP very quickly and can result in thermal throttling. This simply taxes the battery and also reduces it endurance over time.

  • Be wary. Bought a Ruben version of these. Hinge exploded and broken lcd, trying a warranty claim through dell. Painful and probably won’t get, since they claim user abuse….
