This with game pass (shared from your account) for the kids is amazing value.

An Atari 2600 for the kids is amazing value.

      • +5

I had an Atari 2600 as a kid and have an Xbox Series S as a… bigger kid. Both amazing value ~40 years apart.

For anybody considering a series S please look at the specifications…
Spend the extra money it'll be worth it in the long run because the series S is basically a leap between consoles and you will not get the same experience as people on the series X
Random example I have not had one crash on the series X on the new modern warfare ll all my buddies on series S have.

    In saying that
If you're looking for something for the kids with game pass ultimate this plus an external is the go

    • +1

Nearly double the price? Might as well double it again and get a great PC for that price.

      • +26

This is how I justify all my purchases.

"$15 for a burger? That's half the price of the steak…"

Anyway, I now own several restaurants

      • -6

Just like a computer you pay for specifications.
series X has more than twice the usable storage of a series S
And has a lot more power

    • +1

Honestly, that’s just not true. You may be able to tell a difference up close on large TVs. But even though, this hardly translates into a gameplay difference. Let alone any less enjoyment while playing those games.

The Series S is what a console should be: affordable and focused on fun and simplicity. Go for a Series X if you prefer disc-based games or when you’re really into high-fidelity graphics.

      • -5

It transfers into a massive gameplay difference just like the massive difference between 2K and 4K LOL

The only thing these two consoles share is the processor

                                     Series X. Series S

GPU AMD RDNA 2, 12 teraflops, 1.8 GHz AMD RDNA 2, 4 teraflops, 1.6 GHz
        RAM 16 GB 10 GB
"this hardly translates into a gameplay difference."

        ahahahaha.

        • 😕

        • +2

Gameplay is more than 4k resolution, 60fps and high quality textures.

    • Random example I have not had one crash on the series X on the new modern warfare ll all my buddies on series S have.

Annecdotal. In the same vein, I've not had an issue with it at all on my Series S. Playing 1080p on my 42" TV and it looks great too.

Wait one cotton picking minute… is that an actual genuine deal on a current gen console i see!!?

    • +1

OzMSRP is finally turning… into… OzBargain!? My golly goodness me its been a while.

    • +7

But it seems people are actually able to get this and it isn't selling out or requiring a preorder, so my interest is at an all time low.

What's the point of having it if other people can, you know?
      🙄

Amazing deal, great pairing with game pass and as a xmas gift.

  • +8

I paid $450 for mine and couldn’t be happier. I simply don’t have the time anymore to get the value of an $800 console, but the S has served me well and is great to turn on and have a quick casual play when time permits. The ability to install Retroarch and have a USB stick full of roms connected to it is an amazing bonus, and the fact it’s legit and does not void warranty takes this up another notch. Game pass is also quite good. The only downside for me is that you’re stuck paying whatever MS charge for digital copies of games.

It's good to hear people enjoying stuff without people jumping on them for not choosing the other one.

Glad you're having some fun with games rather than pixel counting and analysing frame rates!

        • +3

I gave your original comment an upvote bro.

If it was me personally, I'd go Series X every day of the week because I prefer physical games and movies.

I'm just appreciating someone enjoying a gaming device as a gaming device. At the end of the day it's a distraction from the mundanity and hardships of life. If it achieves that goal and can create a bit of connection on top, I reckon that's pretty great.

          • @Ninternet: I totally agree with your opinion mate

I just don't understand why people freak out and start down voting when you give an opinion and advice ultimately.

Plenty of good things about a series s but anybody that says the gaming experience is the same to a series X is just ignorant to the actual facts.

            • @Sammy Boi: Remember, people are emotional animals that think.

Never the other way around. You and I included.

    • Lots of great classics for sale right now on Microsoft's store. Few bucks for some really great games. Just picked up black flag for a play through on my series x

    • Moving overseas so thinking I might pick one up with Game Pass. I've got a 4K tv but like you mention not sure the $400 price difference is worth it for me

  • +1

The real question is if the price goes even lower on the black friday? :-)

    • +2

Very good chance you can get this cheaper later in the week

  • Great console if you aren't interested in the cutting edge. AAA games look/run worse than PS5/XSX but it's great for the smaller GamePass indie titles and emulation.

    • -5

      " AAA games look/run worse than PS5/XSX"

Try telling that to some of the people above

      • +6

Shock the $499 console is weaker than the $749 and $799 console, have you ever thought that people are ok with less visual quality? there are more than one type of customer, don't need to get weirdly offended when someone points that out

        • -4

No the shock is the fact that people don't understand the difference and claim there isn't one.

The series S attracts all the sheep.

          Down vote away sheep

          • @Sammy Boi: I use a PC, and theres also a huge difference between a high end PC and a series X, doesn't make this a bad deal. Feels excellently priced for casual couch gaming via gamepass. Very tempted.

    • +4

If you have a TV that only outputs up to 1080p, you'll never notice the graphics difference. Here's CODMW2 running on the Series S, Series X and PS5. Very little difference between them:

      • It's call of duty it'll run on anything.
        Differently but it'll still work.

    Any deals for Xbox controllers?

    • Picked up a used xbox series s for $200 and I'd love a deal on a 2nd controller. All the used marketplace offerings are near retail price for some reason

  • +3

Being able to buy a latest generation console for little more than Nintendo Switch is outstanding value.
Plus you can use Game Pass with it… this is the best value in gaming.

  • Does anyone know how long warranty is for XBX controller? (Microsoft shop)

    • If the Xbox controller was purchased separately the warranty is 12 months.
If the Xbox controller was bundled with a console the controller warranty is 3 months (although most Australian retailers will help you).

      • I bought through Microsoft website, it came with the console.

I purchased another controller and it says warranty is 2 years. I filed a complaint with Microsoft see what happens.

If not will lodge a dispute with accc

    • +1

I got a PS5 from Amazon AU in 2020, 14 months later I was having issues with the original controller.

Amazon chat support gave me credit towards a replacement from the store, it wasn't guaranteed and I had to work hard to explain the issues, but Amazon didn't tell me tough luck and I treated the included controller as part of the 24 month console.

  • doh and i just bought some new $5 games for my nintendo wii.

    Also $399 at Microsoft Store.

Paired mine with 10% off corporates benefit microsoft store gift card and snapped up for $360 total.
