AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D Processor $499 + Shipping ($0 MEL C&C) @ PC Case Gear

2130

One of the best gaming CPUs around, sensible choice for those already on AM4 platform. Even with shipping it makes sense. I believe this is the cheapest it has been but correct me if I'm wrong. Hope this helps someone 😉

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2022

AMD will need to reset the AM5 platform because at the moment, it is not a complete disaster but it it has fallen well short of Zen1-3

Once the AM5 X3D chips are ready, along with the mid-tier RDNA3 GPU's and some better priced B750 motherboards, that will be the time to move from the 5900X

    • Depending on what games you play, it is

Lots of good benchmarks on TPU

      https://www.techpowerup.com/review/rtx-4090-53-games-ryzen-7…

    • Same boat, the 1% and 0.1% lows makes me want to switch.

Would I notice a big difference in frame rates if I'm currently running a 5950x?

I'm mainly paying at 1440p with a 3080ti. I originally bought it for video editing but have since stopped video editing and only use it for gaming.

    • +2

Heaps of review sites (checkout hardware unboxed on YouTube).

I wouldn't "upgrade" to this if I had a 5950x.There is no doubt the 5800x3d would be better at gaming, it just doest justify it though in my opinion.

    • +2

You might get some better results but I would say just keep the 5950x mate, it's a way better CPU for everything else apart from gaming.

    • Thanks for the replies and perspectives guys! I'll just keep the 5950x!

  • +1

5800x3D vs 5950x vs 5900x vs 5800x https://youtu.be/6MRoYvFuoGc GPU used: 3070, may have different results with different GPU
Or 1440p fps all CPU chart https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel-core-i5-13600k/19.h… GPU used: 3080

    • Probably get a little more difference between 5800x3D and other Ryzen 5000 chips with a 4090 so things become more CPU bound… but still not worth upgrading if you have a 5600x or better in my opinion.

      • What about upgrading from 3800x?

    • The 13600K went backwards when OCed?

      • +1

        Yeah, may be overheating?

  • Can anyone recommend a good deal for a CPU Cooler for this? Air or AIO is fine!

    • It depends on your case, what is it?

      • Some crappy Lance-V RGB ATX Techfast thing but I might be grabbing a Lian-Li PC-O11 Mid tower soon.. also have to fit my existing 6900xt 360mm AIO in there

        • Ok so what motherboard has Techfast sent you? It sounds like you're pairing a Rolls Royce GPU and CPU with a 1972 VW Beetle motherboard, power supply and ram.

          • @Budju: Hahaha, hopefully not

MSI B450M Mortar Max (Will have to flash BIOS)
            750W Gold PSU
            Patriot Viper 16GB DDR4 4400MHz B-Die RAM

            • @essent1al: Oh, so those weren't from Techfast? I've only ever seen them sell trash.

              Those all sound good.

Because you've got such a beast radiator for the GPU, I'd probably be inclined to go air cooling on the CPU, because you can expel most of the heat from the GPU out of the top of the case without it affecting air cooling performance to the CPU.

I would suggest instead you go with the Lian Li Lancool III for the case, mounting the 6900xt radiator at the top of the case.

Then you can go a number of good CPU air coolers:

              -Noctua NH-D15
-Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4
              -Deepcool Assassin III
              -Scythe Fuma 2
              -Deepcool AK620
-Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 (only $55+delivery)

Or you could just go a 360mm Corsair AIO if you wanted marginally better performance, but it won't last as long and will cost more. Corsair have a good 5 year warranty on theirs, which includes damage to components if they should fail and leak all over your computer. I don't know what happens if it leaks over your $1000 graphics card after five years, probably bad luck. Due to trademark patenting of AIO pumps, most of the AIO coolers perform quite similarly.

I prefer air cooling, especially in your situation.

      Deepcool AK620

  • If only I'd waited 1 more day…

    • Ditto. Reach out, I am.

      • Mine got dispatched first thing this morning, tossing up whether it's worth the hassle, ill lose out on delivery and return then be waiting another 4 days

        • It's a 30-day-return change of mind policy, but find print says "retail or purchase price, whichever lower" and excludes sale items.

So if they won't come to the table I suppose I''ll wait and return it in a few days / next week when the sales done, and buy another now.

Let's see if they'll be reasonable.

        • They hooked me up mate! Reach out to em.

  • Bought one literally yesterday for $670, ouch. Going to reach out and see if they'll help a brother out.

    • +4

Why? They’ve been coming up at $549 and $559 for ages!

      • Because they weren't yesterday, and out of stock everywhere else?

      • +1

Good news anyway, they hooked a brotha up

  • I will not be buying this to protest PCCaseGear's flat $15 postage fee for literally everything, even a tiny microSD card :)

  • $519 at PLE now, though no stock.

  • +2

    Now this is podracing!

  • +7

Now Scorptec has dropped to 499.

    • Thanks! Went with scorptec to save $15

    • Crap! Paid for PCCG + shipping oh well, will expect it to come in a large box full of air bags

    • Apparently they were getting stock yesterday, hopefully it doesn't take too long to ship!

  • Hard to pass on this but I'm trying to. I'll stick with the 9900k until AM5 comes down and next gen X3D is a thing

  • Mwave has C&C stock for $509 which is the best in Sydney until Scorptec comes back in stock

I was going back and forth to sites that sells this in the past few days, contemplating and hesitating if I'll buy one then I saw this post this morning and without further thinking, I just purchased one. Hopefully will get heaps of improvement from my 3700X. Thanks!

  • I just wanna ask if this is worthy over 5600x in term of playing games through emulations (like Yuzu, Ryuzijn and RCPS3) ? Like how much of the gain cause 5600x kinda struggles with these 3 emulators

    • From what I read online, it can help a bit in certain situations, but the emulators you mentioned, especially RPCS3 which I run with my 3700x, won't really benefit at all from the V-Cache over raw CPU clock speed and more cores (To an extent). Maybe in the future, the Devs will take more advantage of the cache, but they're not the most optimised pieces of software and some configurations run better with only light multi-threading too, so YMMV.

      • Thank you friend. I guess i will hold until AM5 MB prices come down

  • +3

Those wondering re: speed benefit of the 5800X3D, check this handy chart from TPU

MS Flight Simulator not listed but also one of the biggest boosts from V-Cache

    • Where are the 1440p and 4K results? no one with a 4090 plays at 1080p lol

    • Great overall chart. Have you seen one from 1% lows? Microstutters are most important for me to get rid of

      • 6900xt / 5600x user here. Game at 1440p 165hz. Will this be a notable improvement?

        EDIT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81kAorV30Vc

        20 game averages: RTX 3080

        1080P
        189fps - 5600x
        204fps - 5800x3D

        1440P
        154fps - 5600x
        168fps - 5800x3D

        4k
        102fps - 5600x
        109fps - 5800x3D

        1% lows are similar improvements.

Tough decision cause some games have a massive improvement…..others have nil.

        • Always comes down to what you play, research that game specifically for benchmarks

Im upgrading from a 5900x to 5800x3d because I'll gain 8-15% @ 1440p in my CPU bound game.

  • +1

Mwave have it for $509 for people in Sydney that can go grab it.

  • mines arriving tomorrow, order Tuesday night

They clearly advertise their participation in the Uncharted game bundle but they never sent any code to redeem it via invoice or email. Sent them an email last week Wed about this and received an auto acknowledgement email but haven't heard a peep since. Their phones today also just direct to email. Did anyone else have any trouble getting the advertised code to redeem from AMD?

    • Came here to check, same with myself, got a 5800X3D and no coupon, sent a request as no other option available and still nothing, sent around same time as yourself.

      Have you since heard anything?

      • +1

After sending 2 follow-up emails/messages they did get back to me with the code. Seems like you need to continuously hassle them to get it. Like drawing blood from a stone lol
