AmEx Statement Credit - Spend $500 or More, Get $150 Back @ Microsoft Online

1620

Seems Microsoft upped their cashbask from $100 to $150 for $500+ spending on Amex card, so basically 30% off their online stores. First 40000 card saves only, offer expires 31/12/22. FYI, I used similar offer for Microsoft gift card earlier this year and got the cashback.

Can be combined with Xbox Series S 512GB Console $399 Shippped @ Microsoft Australia after buying gift cards.

    • +2

Damn I really need an amex

    • How does it work? You buy MS gift card using AMEX on MS website then use the Giftcard to buy the XBOX?

      • Yes. After buying gift cards go to redeem.microsoft.com

  • Can I buy gift card to get the cashback?

    • +2

T&C not excludes gift cards purchase, so should be safe. Last time i bought 5 x $100 gift cards in one transaction.

  • Can I buy $500 (Microsoft Gift Card – Digital Code), then use these gift card to buy Xbox S ?
How many gifts per transaction ?

  • Anything good to buy?

  • +4

It's not 30%, better remove that from the description

    • Huh? 150/500 = 0.3 in my mafs

      • +2

Only if you buy something that is that exact amount…say you buy a 1k item…

        • Ah I see … fair enough

        • Basically you can load $1000 gift cards in your account, so if you go the gift cards ways, you save %30 for iitems under $1500 if you have multiple cards enrolled.

          • @couger: So gift cards just load onto the account balance? I'm asking coz I was wondering if there was a limit on the # of gift cards you can use. But if it's all just going into account balance then it sounds like it doesn't matter.

          • @couger: Is that the max one can load in gift cards - $1000?

So if apply 8 x $100 cards to cover an Xbox series X I shouldn't have any dramas?

            Ta

  • Anyone else having processing issues purchasing the gift cards?

    • Yes. Very frustrating.

      • +1

I had to ring them up to fix it, she couldnt get it to work either over the phone, so she escalated it, rang me back later in the day and processed the transaction.

        • Cool. Does that count as a phone transaction or did it still trigger the AMEX offer?

          • +1

@clx: Yeah good question, its something I'm a little concerned about. However by the sounds of it they processed the transaction online using my account, I already had items in cart, credit card saved so I didn't have to read them out credit card info etc, they simply processed the cart on their end.
It just says "Microsoft" on transaction, and it's still in pending stage so can't tell if I get the credit yet.

            • +1

@donkcat: oh cool! sounds like you're ok then. I've had mixed experiences with phone transactions but the recent ones I've had (Pet Circle) worked fine. I just called them and the phone operator was so lost. She said the initial escalation says that there is suspicious activity on my account and I'm banned for life from purchasing from their online store. Lol wtf - no common sense. I asked to speak to a manager and that's when she escalated this for further review and says she'll call me back.

              • @clx: How'd you get on? Have any luck with the phone call back? It's a strange setup indeed. My transactions have now gone from pending to completed and amex credit still isn't through

                • @donkcat: is this the error you got?

We're having trouble processing your payment and we'd like to get it sorted out. Get more information.

Followed by an identifer code. Got it twice.

                  • +1

@scar4ace: Yes that's the one. Tried 2 different AMEX across 3 different accounts, different everything really.
Phoning seemed to be the only way to fix it
Have $150 amex credit gone through now

                    • @donkcat: Do you get $150 credit for phone order?

Can you share the number you rang?

                      • @Ash-Say: Rang 1800 267 785

I had the items in my account in the cart ready to go, AMEX already saved. It seems she processed that on her end (I didn't have to read out credit card info)

              • @clx: Hey I had the same thing happen with the account being "banned" from purchasing - despite nothing suspicious ever occuring. Did you get this resolved? Im trying to figure out what to do as it was my personal MS account that this happened on

                • @TimmyShooterB: Nope. I just gave up. So many calls to them. So many call backs and they couldn't resolve it. Basically, it's flagged as suss and they can't explain why or override it. There's no magic they can work on their end to override this.

                  • @clx: Same here, Microsoft can go f themselves with this Bs. Not getting any of my money

    • same here

  • holy cow Amex where were you this whole time?

I've been checking for this every day!

    • What are you buying?

      • +3

pardon my English, but doesn't this mean that Xbox X costs just $599 now?

        • Sure does.

          • @Sterio: checkout is going through xbox.com - do you know if this still qualifies for the AMEX cashback?

            • @unfunkable: good question.. my statement shows transaction as "MICROSOFT" and I am pretty sure I ordered via Microsoft store, not xbox.com

            • +1

@unfunkable: I just checked, what I did is order via microsoft store, not xbox.com.

here's the link this way you're not going to xbox.com

        • Looks like Xbox X is out of stock at MS :(

          • +1

@scar4ace: dammit! I just got promised a delivery tomorrow in the chat. hope it's true

            • @shabaka: Let me try on chat. But I suppose when you tried checkout online the Xbox X was still in stock? You should be good then fingers crossed.

  • Thanks OP!

I want to buy an Xbox Series S + a red wireless controller. They have an offer for a 3-Month Xbox Live Gold Membership (Digital Code) for $17.95 at checkout, which will take my cart to >$500. Can I convert the Xbox Live Gold to Gamepass Ultimate?

    • If you already have gamepass ultimate, it will convert the live gold, i done that one year ago.

  • Dang it… bought my Series X with the $100 off last time…

    • Will this work with xbox site too? Because, the purchase link goes to xbox.xom

      • +1

        use this link

this way you buy on microsoft.com

        cashback worked fine for me

  • I keep on receiving following error at checkout. How to rectify this?

Something has gone wrong at your end. Wait and try again.

  • Can I use MS giftcard to buy Office 365 subscription from MS Workplace discount programme?

    • +1

nvm, tried and only take paypal or credit card

  • I guess two people could 'go in' and get two series S's for $325ea which is great value!

  • Also, I'm confused by the gift card route people are going? Is it just to get to the $500 threshold? (Eg, buy $500 gift cards on Microsoft with amex to only really pay $350. Then use $400 of the $500 to get the series s? So get a series s and a $100 Microsoft/Xbox gift card for $350….?)

    • Yes, thats the way.

    • Thank you for patiently waiting, I was able to confirm that It seems our systems identified something a little out of the ordinary with the payment for the purchase of the console and gift card and for your protection, we stopped the transaction.

The workaround we can do about this is to simply separate the transactions for the console and gift card. Shall I try to complete your repurchase for the Xbox Series S?

      from MS CS

      • I think I've been having this same issue, 2 separate accounts, 2 separate AMEX cards and yet it won't process the transaction? Did it work for you doing separate transactions? Thing is I even tried 1 $100 gift card and it failed to process so not sure splitting will work.

  • Is this the cheapest way to buy an Xbox Series X?

    • seems to me that way. got one

  • Will gift card purchases be eligible for the cashback?

    • +1

Im 99% sure its ANY $500 purchase from the store and you will get the $150

  • Is this the gift card people are talking about here?

  • Just purchased an Xbox off the Microsoft store..

Activated the amex offer prior but haven't received an email to say it's been tracked.

Anyone experience this in the past ?

    • Don't you have to buy the gift cards from MS store first? Xbox sells on xbox.com right?

      • I purchased off this

        https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/d/xbox-series-x/8wj714n3rbtl…

        Anyway see what happens

        • Oh. Thanks for sharing that. $600 for an Xbox series X is a great deal. I bet if you Amex has the transaction, it will be credited back in few days. Happened to me with sony last time.

          • +1

@amazonaddict: I got confirmation from AmEx that I "used my Microsoft offer" after purchasing from that link

  • i can not check out, anyone got the same issue ?

    • I have the same issue. :-(

  • +1

Finally got this deal on my explorer, now to patiently wait for an xbox series x deal :)

    • $600 for a Series X seems like a pretty good deal to me. What sort of deal are you waiting for?

  • I can't find where to put the xbox gift card code at the check out

  • Is anyone else having issues signing into Amex on the app and on their website?

    • Seems problem at amex end, can not sign in too.

      • Okay now I'm able to sign in on the website but not the app

  • Good deal but it's time we all cut back on material desires!

    • yeah now I need a new TV dammit

      • Need is a strong word, do without it!

        • it's ok, I am replacing one thing with another, so I am not technically spending, might even come out in positive after selling what I got now

was eyeing those OLED TVs to leverage the best out of Xbox X but thought nah even $1600 is too much to drop on a TV. especially something so finicky like OLED.

so I will grab a different deal, something around or below $1k that will still be 55", fully leverage Xbox X and not cost a lot of hard earned cash

  • Is Xbox X in stock? If you order now, how long will it take to get an one? Also can we use gift card loaded into your account to buy an Xbox?

  • I have trouble saving the offer on Amex, or should I just purchase it off the Microsoft store and the offer would apply by default. How does this work, sorry I am new to this. TIA.

    • you should save the offer first (will show saved), then purchase to redeem the offer, otherwise Amex will not honor the cashback.

  • Did anyone try it out yet and get amex credit?

    • +1

I got Xbox X, arriving Friday

and $150 credit from amex already in my account

      • Nice did you go with the buy microsoft digital gift card online approach (using Amex), and then use those Microsoft gift cards to purchase the xbox?

Or did you buy the xbox direct from microsoft with Amex card?

Only reason I ask, is if you have two amex cards with the deal, and went the digital gift card approach, then in theory you could get $150 back on each card provided you purchase $500 worth of vouchers per card. Such that, $1000 worth of vouchers for $700.

Then buy the $749 xbox with the vouchers, and have $250 vouchers remaining to buy other stuff from store.

        • +1

nah, I didn't bother with gift cards route. just purchased Xbox X outright and got my $150 credited back

  • can't use Cashrewards can it?

    • Yes you can get cashback from cashrewards.

      • It's 8% cashback tonight which pushed me over the fence for an xbox one s

        • do you get cashback for buying gift card?

          • @RichardF89: I didnt buy a giftcard. Cashback is still 8% on consoles today.

            • @shreddov2: but I only got tracked $5.98 cashback

              • @RichardF89: Mine was 31.92 for a series s purchase of 399. Did you use Cash Rewards? Its still 8% today.
