Personally wouldnt even buy this for $19.

    • Last night I was trying to decide if the hassle was worth it and came to the same conclusion. Pretty bad reviews and specific use case.

      • +1

It has battery, so I plan to bring it to playground and picnic

    • +1

Yes but it does require dedicated software.
² You will need to install the WirelessWebcam Utility for MiniPTZcam. The PC and camera can only be used in the same network environment. The camera can only be connected to a 2.4 GHz network. If the network becomes unstable, the video may pause. Voice cannot be obtained with the camera. A microphone is required separately. Only available on Windows as of Oct 2021.

If you were thinking of using this on a work supplied laptop then check if work will allow you to install the software.

      • thanks. Was looking to connect it to a phone and use it as a webcam for when my kids call their grandparents. The kids usually move a lot around the room and go off camera many times while playing, so was hoping this would allow them to be tracked continuously.

  • Not a vlogging cam, just a fancy webcam

  • +2

Oh nice I'll use my perks voucher! Glad I held off from HN

    • +1

      Same…

    • +4

I wish I had done the same. Now I am stuck supporting HN in their unethical practices and paid $10 more for the privilege. 😞

  • +1

For $9 (after perk and cashback) its a great value for baby cam during travel

  • I got one for $9, worth a shot even if it's kinda shitty. Could come in handy for something!

    • Might come in handy for vlogging, who knows.

Direct link to the cashback claim site. Lets see how it turns out to be.

  • Amazing! $9 (with JB Perks) for this camera.

  • -1

The video quality is like $10 generic brand webcam, maybe even worse.

    • Can't be that bad, 1080p @ 60fps.

      • -1

Manufacturer can tweak the video resolution number to 8k 120p if they really want.

    • Not bad for $9

  • With battery option, I think it is better than buying those USB webcams or at worse a baby monitor :D

  • +2

    PTZ means Pan Tilt Zoom.

  • I have alot of ultimate gift cards to use.
    Can it be used instore?

  • damn………should have waited

  • It's pretty shit guys. Unless you have the trifecta of TCN Gift Cards at 15%, Perks $10 coupon and can get it from a store, ignore. The quality is pretty shit and no use as a webcam as microphones can't be used when using as a webcam !!

    • +1

Is it at least worth it for $19? I'm collecting from JB and I havent got gift card or perks coupon. And how in the world did this pass Canon quality control or why was it priced in the $300 to $400 mark…

If all other uses are redundant, maybe use this as a dashcam. Since most of those are average and not in 4k anyways.

  • Got one for laughs. Webcam quality is actually pretty decent and it tracks you in the frame which is absolutely hilarious with a pan range this large. 720p@30, but doesn't seem to maintain the 30fps limit, in ~15fps limbo a lot of the time. 2.4Ghz WiFi I guess.

    Other features seem alright.

    I'll take it for $20.

    • Can you tell us if the video stream can be accessed via RTSP, or if there's any ONVIF support?

      • +4

Not sure how to test for ONVIF support. Nothing on port 554.

Two ports open, 8080 and 49152. 8080 maybe for the video stream, can't tell. 49152 is for UPnP, supporting a schemas-canon-com:service:ICPO-CameraControlAPIService. Go figure what that's for.

EDIT: Taking a look under Wireshark and 8080 hosts a camera control API and the video feed. Uses Digest authentication.

        URL looks like http://192.168.xxx.xxx:8080/ccapi/ver102/shooting/liveview/f…

    • How did you get it to connect to your phones, android seems to be having problems. iPhone ?

  • +1

Anyone has a perks code they're not using?

  • +1

    $1 profit with commbank rewards.

    • What

      • +2

There's a targeted spend $x get $y back from CBA. The $ various depending on account usage.

  • Out of curiosity - did anyone receive one without plastic clear seal on the outermost layer.

I would have thought most products now come heatwrapped as a seal. Are Canon an exception or did I receive an open box return?

Very curious to hear from others that took the plunge.

    • No seals on mine.

    • +1

Probably because a lot of these major companies are going for recycle/no plastic in packaging sort of thing.

      • Thank you, to you both.

      • At least they show put a sticker to seal the box for piece of mind.

  • +2

Still has a $629 price tag on the box. :D

    It's US$499 at B&H.

  • +1

Mine is a dud, neither turning on or a charge LED coming on when plugged in

    • +1

What are you charging it with? Mine wouldnt charge with a standard usb to usb-c cable like you use to charge a phone but it will charge with a stronger usb-c to usb-c charger i have for an ipad. Also charges with my macbook power supply which has a USB-C plug.

      • Urgh… will test and report back, bloody only xiaomi usb c to c charger is at my work, will have to unbox this zendure kogan one

      • +1

Cheers, cycled through power banks and working with a Xiaomi Powerbank 3

    • Side of the box says it needs a 9v 2A USB charger, so I'm guessing a basic 5V one will not work with it. It's just a tiny sticker on my one, added as an afterthought no doubt.

  • +1

Just went through the process and JB was out of stock.

Worked out for the best as I was about to pay for postage.

Try Camera House. At time of posting they have it for $169 with free pick up or postage.

    • Yet, go to "All Cameras" and it's still in the sliding banner advertisement…smfh

    • Camera House - also now out of stock 😢

          • @S L: Not bahd

            • +1

@easternculture: If still not used and not planning to use, should do it,
              Ask for $250
You will at least get $200
              Good luck

  • Since its off their website now then I assume it's out of stock everywhere?

  • +2

I got one from JB yesterday and claim has been submitted.

This is an interesting little camera, which I try to connect via Bluetooth but it always said insert memory card and restart; then I try the web camera mode but it never comes back, now it almost a dead one as I don’t know if there is button for force reset.

The item itself has an obvious great quality when you hold it, you can feel it. Made in Japan seems.

But interface are too low end.

    • Haha, almost as if high tech stuff that costs too much to make are sent overseas. Domestically only making the cheap and nasty. :D

    • Yeah it should feel like quality as the mechanism for tilt and swivel itself should be quite expensive. Similar to the Echo 10 from Amazon but just on a smaller scale.

  • For those who bought the PICK, is anyone getting issues with the cashback claim website? It's showing that my session has expired upon just loading the page and I did try on two different PCs already.

    • Was fine for me. Try incognito mode

      • Thanks julz! I'll try it again, I didn't even think of that. Thanks!

  • +2

Bought this in the hopes of using it as a web cam. But I dont think I have ever fought so hard over crappy software to get this to work. I some how managed to get it to work once, and that was using a combo of turning it off, then on, holding the bluetooth button for a certain amount of seconds or something, and then it was seen on the PC.

Then after a reboot, I forgot what combo i did, and didn't want to spend another 30 mins trying to find out.

When it was connected there was a bit of lag, and lots of freezing.

Now a short summary of getting this thing to work once….

Do you press the bluetooth button just once? Or do you press and hold, but do you hold it long enough for the lights to begin flashing, wait are you pairing it again? What do you mean it now needs to connect via wifi. Oh the wifi password is on the box, lucky i didn't throw that away. Oh crap, can't update firmware, so install it via the memory card. So the firmware update requires you wait a couple of minutes? until some orange light isn't on, then you tick a box to click a big orange button to say you didn't press anything when updating the firmware…. Ok reboot and now the bluetooth can't be seen, is there some kind of reset? oh there is a reset if you power on the device whilst holding the power button and bluetooth at the same time….. oh stuff me….

Fingers crossed there is a firmware update that allows it to work via the USB cable, but I doubt that is going to happen anytime soon.

    • +1

Agree, not very clear on the processes. I also had a lot of issues connecting it as a webcam and finally figured out that the router's 2.4GHz channel had to be between 1-11. Once that was done, connected with no issues but video laggy. USB cable would be perfect especially as I'm far from the router.

Also had the same issue with finding a power source that would actually charge the camera. I ended up using my power bank on the 45w usb-c setting. Even then, the camera was not blinking as per the manual to indicate it was charging. When I checked a few hours later it was fully charged.

  • +2

So, it gives me kickstarter vibes. Really interesting concept, but let down in a number of aspects. I had read that it came with a memory card, but it didn't. Not a biggie. Then I tried to power it up - nothing. Eventually tried plugging it into my macbook power supply and that gave it enough power to charge. The manual says it needs 9V PD at 2A minimum. Maybe mine had trouble because it's probably been in a warehouse for ages and was totally dead. Anyhow, time to move on.

I then tried to pair it with my 'phone. Would finish pairing, then reach the final step where it asks to press the wireless button again to confirm at which point it would fail. Trying to reconnect would not work because the app would complain that the camera was already registered to another 'phone. Worked out how to reset the thing (turn it off, then keep holding down the wireless button when you press the power button). Went through the pairing process again - same issue. Tried connecting to the thing via wifi, and it wouldn't show up. Eventually it did, but it had a different SSID than the one on the box and the passcode was incorrect. Maybe I got a refurb or return, although it seemed to be factory packed.

Moving on. I thought - ok, maybe the issue with bluetooth is due to the app wanting location or other rights but Android is blocking it without warning…. so let's try an iPhone. That worked. It popped up a number of requests for access after which all good. After connecting to bluetooth it then automatically was able to connect to it via wifi. I'd prefer to use my newer android phone, but I'd need to reset the camera as it only supports one 'phone so that's a pain. Would be nice if it could support more than one device. Haven't tried connecting it to my wifi to use as a webcam - not sure if you can then perhaps connect to it via the app, but suspect not.

I then thought - gee, I wonder/hope there's a new firmware update out there. I went to do an update, and it told me the battery was too low. Checked and there does seem to be an update, so will wait and see if it makes any difference once the battery has enough charge to allow the update. I went to check the battery charge - no info. Discovered you need to pull the thing off charge to see the battery level. In theory when it is on charge and the battery is full, the indicator says "full" so there is that.

I then did a couple of test shots - not bad. Not great, but ok. Tracking seemed to work within reason. Internal microphone(s) ordinary, but what the hey. For the (incredibly discounted price after cashback) overall not bad for a toy but I really don't see them bringing out a V2 of this thing and I would have been super unhappy if I'd paid anywhere close to full RRP for it.
