You want to move to Optus? Brave

      • They have already been hacked. I switched to kogan yesterday and $&%^@/÷s are asking for card number in addition to the drivers license number. Its obvious what will happen next

    • +1

      Harvey Norman have them.

Depending on where you are, your reception could be better with Optus… or not.

But yeah, you are brave, I started with Vodafone then Optus and now Telstra.

I’m not going back to neither of the first two.

      • No choice. My Telstra plan is expiring this month. Not eligible to the jbhifi deals.

        • +1

You can port out your number for 30 days to Optus or Vodafone (post paid month to month or pre-paid) and then port in to JB

  • Is this a 5g plan?

  • Would this bring the Fold4 down to $1099?

    • +2

Essentially yes. But then you're stuck on a $89 x 24 month telstra plan.

  • Is this a standard Telstra plan that can have bundle sims added to it for satay pooling?

    • According to the people at the telstea store, no, but I'm keen to try in practice

Edit: the customer information statement about the plan explicitly says it is not shareable.

      • Thanks.

  • Quick question: can we add international calling to this plan? My understanding is that it doesn't come with international call credits

    • No - this is also the reason why I have not switched. Confirmed with both JB employee and Telstra chat that it not possible to add any type of international call pack to JB plans.

      • Also noticed with my Telstra/jbhifi plan of mine if i wifi hotspot my mobile say to my laptop the speeds are much slower then speed tests directly from my mobile,.. anyone noticed this or maybe i could have an issue with my 5G mobile

        • Could be your phone hotspot itself is the bottleneck.
Testing internet speed on the phone would always be quicker than getting internet to the phone, which then has to send it to your laptop before it's then speed tested.

      • Pardon my ignorance, but why do you need international calls when we've got so many calling apps these days that use the Internet?

        • If you need to call a business

          • @Quantumcat: There are apps where you can call landlines or mobiles. The rates are cheap enough and it works well. Rebtel is the one I use.
How often does one call an international business anyway?

            • @Ridiculous Panda: My partner needs to for his business. Thanks for the info on Rebtel! Had not heard of that before or knew you could do that

            • @Ridiculous Panda: Hey, any apps in particular you suggest? I'm curious to try for my friends living o/s (rather than using FaceTime audio which can be a bit dodgy when I'm in rural areas)

              • +1

@bangiebargie: Rebtel. But it will only work well if you have reasonable internet connection. I guess facetime will work the same.
Rebtel is only good if the recipient doesn’t have internet connection or you’re calling a landline.

      • +1

        Roaming pack would work though?

  • +1

Anyone using this as home internet. Please share your experience if possible. Thinking about replacing home NBN with this. My average usage with current ISP is 280 GB per month, just worried about dropouts as I am working from home.

    • -1

Yes but i have to hotspot every time which drains the battery. But you can data share at an additional cost and use other sim as a data sim. 5G works well for my use but may struggle based on location

      • +2

Incorrect. JB BYO plans CANNOT share data with other services. Can’t add a sim to share data.

        • I haven't done that so can't say from experience. It works well for me as i am the only one using internet and i dont stream much

          • @Royale with cheese: yeah with the JB plans, you can't data share. But i have been hotspotting (via usb for less heat+drain) when my wifi is down or if im not home.

    • -1

It is not as stable as NBN. I used a portable wifi modem as a hotspot for home use, it could sometimes be very slow and the modem needed a few restarts within the same day. Note that maybe it was because I have a 4G portable wifi modem without mods to remove the battery which has swollen.

    • As i stated above i seem to get throttled when using this plan as a wifi hotspot from my 5G mobile or like i said above the issue could be my 5G phone, funny cant remember how it was when i had simcard in my Telstra 5G wifi modem, been to lazy to swap sim over and test lolz

    • I just signed up for this today and am using the SIM in a Netgear Nighthawk M5.

      Speed test details are:

      DOWNLOAD Mbps: 94.46
      UPLOAD Mbps: 29.03

I had previously been using a Telstra business SIM with very infrequent restarts needed (less than once every couple of months). I expect this will be the same.

    • I hotspot this from my phone as 5G home internet. Replaced my NBN with this.
Been doing this for about 3 months now and its been almost perfect.
Runs at 5G 95% of the time and doesn't drain the phone battery as much as you'd think.
Minimal downtime, I haven't noticed much of a difference compared with NBN.
Netflix, youtube, browsing at very fast speeds.

      • Doesn’t your phone get very hot at all?

  • Do you think the good guys will offer this too? As they are owned by jb hi fi.

    • Yes, saw the same deal on their website, as well as subscription email.

  • We are looking to get an iphone 13 tomorrow. Do you think jb hifi will match the apple deal of the $80 apple gift card? We want to use it to get an apple watch.

  • Is this deal tomorrow only? Can you sign up next week and still get this deal?

    • +1

      Expires on the 28th

      • Thanks! So i can go in next Monday and it'll be ok?

        • yeah coz it's cyber monday.

  • Not the best deal, earlier this year they had this plan down to $79 per month with 300GB data

    • And $1200?

      • +3

They had $1250 off any Samsung S22 phone or $800 gift card during the $79 pm deal. I took a S22 128GB which was worth $1249 and returned it to a different store to get a $1249 gift card.

        • +1

          Wow smart

        • Wow. Where did you return it to and how? Didn’t know the stores just buy from you new phones like that.

          • @aeoz: So the deal said I could get $1250 off any Samsung S22 phone. So I opted for s22 128GB base model. When they process the phone, they load a gift card with $1250 on it and use that to pay for it and give you the invoice. I took that invoice and phone to a different JB Hifi store and returned it for a gift card refund.

            • @jedimaster: Thanks mate, what reason did you give the other store for the return?

  • Not great or bad deal either. 300GB?! If you can share the data with family members on prepaid with Telstra then it is worth it.

  • Geeze man I literally just signed up to the $69 plan from last week……I would have easily done this.

  • -1

Note that $89/month is subject to escalation based on CPI

    • +1

The jb plans don’t have cpi

  • Anyone know if i can add telstra one number to this plan for a smart watch?

    • Yeah for $5. According to Telstra chat

      • What smart watch is it?

    • Confirmed have activated a pixel watch on this plan

      • +1

Cheers. Bought a Galaxy Watch 5 Pro with the voucher and added it to the plan successfully. Also got an additional $10 port in credit applied for the 24 month period, bringing it down to $79 per month :)

  • I am still hoping for a decent 12 month promotion.

  • Umm what would one get for a $1200 jbhifi gift card lol id want a quick sale too 🤔

    • Pixel 7 Pro?

    • S22 ultra, extra 149$

  • Does the old trick still work? Sign up for a new number then merge the plan with an existing number so that you can keep the old number?

    • -2

I keep seeing people stating that, been lazy to go through the process with my current telsta/jbhifi plan well my old number/main number is with belong only $15 per month plus i got the jbhifi plan for the data and pissed of the s22 that came with it, profit of s22 paid the plan for 12 months and my belong plan has half TB of data accumulated which is stored on my mums belong plan who certainly doesnt use data lolz, so why i dont really care👍😆

    • Like to know too, if it still works

      • +1

Does still work did it on last promotion, you just have to call them up and do it over the phone.
Only small risk you might have is when they "free" your current number to merge there is a chance you might lost that number. But it's a very small chance

        • Dealing with telstra is an absolute nightmare.

          No one has any idea

  • Anyway to get it off older jb two year plan after one year only

    • Yes, just pay out contract

  • Who uses 300gb a month
Can this be used for wifi at home.
Like use a modem that works with a sim card

    • Can be used for wifi anywhere, (wifi hotspot from ones mobile or stick sim in a 4g/5g wifi modem if data is all needed) its great for those that dont have a family needing to share data,. like me i dont bother wasting money on the fixed NBN, so saving money overall and my large amount of data is mobile not fixed at home, plus bonus Telstas 5G speeds over 400Mbps

To save data on my 100gb Telstra/jbhifi plan with streaming services I have an Optus 5gb data plan (aka my home NBN) at half price special of $7.50 per month which is speed capped at 1.5Mbps when 5gb allocated data is used up, so far works perfectly at that slower speed for streaming services including streaming services on my Fetch Mighty 😀

    • I use telstra 400gb data plan as home internet. Typical usage 250 pm. Have gone over 400 only once. Thinking of getting this now.

  • If I sign up for a cheap Aldi/kogan/exetel no contract sim can I immediately port in or is there a term I need to wait?

  • Can these plans be switched within the 24-36hours of activation? Ideally to a plan that is cheaper?

    • you gotta pay a bunch of stuff for the difference. Not worth changing

  • When does this offer expire?

  • Has anyone signed up yet?

If so are you able to confirm if this is $99 with a $10 credit applied, or if there is a possibility to also get the port in credit on top?

    Thanks

    • +2

Signing up right now fam. It’s a $10 credit applied

    • Just chatting with telstra now

      "Thank you for the details.
Now I am going to apply $20 credit for 12 month for one time courtesy"

Give a try, maybe can get $20 for 24 month

      • How you ask them to get $20 discount?

  • +2

I went to the shops at 8am.. As its black friday they opened an hour early and i waited 30 minutes as each port is very time consuming… Entire process took close to an hour and port went smooth… Asked about extra discount but was not able to do it..

FYI: only sim is provided but esim can be set up on telstra app later (Wifi needed)

Bought a mac mini m1 512gb for 1256 on sale.

    • Did the same, JB did a Sim swap straight away but I couldn't download the esim over the Westfield wifi - went to Telstra store to troubleshoot and it worked via their wifi

      • yess same me lol… useless wifi

  • Sorry for being oblivious, but just wanted to know if the $10 port in credit applies just for one month or all the months, I.e. bringing the plan down to $29 a month?

    • +1

      Lol what $29 a month?

      • Think they mean $39 a month

    • Cooked

  • JB on Elizabeth st Melbourne price matched
    Telstra Pixel 7 for $749 :)

  • Ok successfully ported my existing number to my new plan.

Pretty simple process and did it in store.

To simplify it you need to ask for your old number to be disconnected so it goes into quarantine and then they can do a number swap on your JB plan. Whole process took about 20 minutes and in store staff were awesome.

    Well worth it.

    • Did you do that all in store? Or did you have to get the number disconnected before heading in? Seems pretty quick if so.

      Cheers.

      • +1

        All in store.

  • Signed up, got gift card, Tried to get Telstra online to bring my old number to my new plan.
The guy said no can do online, only done at store or via call center. They don’t open till Monday 9-5.
    Will try Monday and update

    • Refer above.

    • Maybe try some different agent?
I did it online not in store

  • Has anyone here successfully get a port in credit from Telstra Chat?

    • Yeah I have, got $20 off.
Here’s what I said to the agent:
“Hey I just ported over from my old carrier on my new $89 plan and was advised there’s a $20 discount.”
