    89*24= 2136

    2136-1200= 936

    936%24 = 39 per month

Try your luck with $10 to $20 credit via Telstra Chat.

    ———
Technically 1200 JB GC can be purchased with 1080 only as 10% off via various gift cards.

    • For the uninitiated (ie. me), when do you try and get the extra credit (port in offer?)? Before you go to JB, or after you've bought it but before you activate?

      • After and after to your last sentence

    • +2

I bet this is already a $99 plan with a $10 per month port-in credit so I wouldn't count on getting "another one".

    • actually $1200 JB Gift Cards can be bought for $1020 right now from Coles - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/737790

… well, by 3 "customers" that is

      • +1

The picture looks like $50 denominations - can you buy $100 or $200 at 15% off? Otherwise you'll need 24 gift cards to get $1200, with a limit of 5 per customer, so 5 different customers..

    • 15% off with TCN at Coles ATM if you can find them

  • +22

    2yrs tho.. damn…

    • Agree. Very foolish to lock in for 2 years.

  • Is it still possible to just create a new plan and then move your existing number onto this plan?

    • I want to know this also. Any tricks?

      • +2

You could spin it up as a new service; port your number to Telstra as a pre-paid service to get it on their network and then request the numbers be swapped on your two telstra services.

There's no reason why this isn't possible, but Telstra are the WORST and super incompetent

        • +1

I tried this with the last deal from JB maybe ~6 months ago, Telstra outright refused to swap the number from my existing expired plan.

      • +1

Its a massive headache. I made sure to get it promised by the sales person in store at JB before initiating. Still ended up taking 3 seperate trips to Telstra stores, 2 times talking to online chat and on the phone with jb for about half an hour to get it over the line.

I would not recommend it, ive just churned onto kogan this time for 6 months and about to switch back again when a good deal comes up

    • +1

A few “pundits” will tell you that they did it.

But for the other mortals, JB/TGG ask at least 30 days with a different company like Optus/Vodafone, and only then, you can take the deal.

Edit: I just read your message again, and yes it seems that a lot of people have been successful doing that.

      • I did it a few weeks back for the $800 one

        • What did you say? How long did it take?

          • @Fligugigu: It took a while. Mostly because you have to change over both numbers. Apprently they are not meant to do it.

      • “Pundit” my ass.

It’s a routine request if you know the magic words.

        • +3

          What are the magic words?

      • I was on boost, switched to amaysim, next day went to JB Hifi and they had no problem porting me over. Also please do call telstra beforehand and get the port-in credit recorded, its a pain to try to get it after, which I managed to ($20)

    • +8

Yes it is possible. I literally do this every year, but only for the 12m plans
Sign up for a new plan and number,
Go to Telstra chat and ask them to transfer your new plan to the old number.
Ask them to cancel the old plan.
      Profit with gift cards.
This pays for a new phone outright every 3 years.

      • So you end up with the new plan but on your original number? Do you have to hold both for a certain amount of time?

        • Nope, I come home from JB and jump straight onto chat. While on the chat ask for the $10 port in credit too

      • Going to try my luck, thanks!

      • Can confirm that, I’ve done the same last year.

        • Same here, worked for me and 2 other family members.

          • +1

@eccaz: Sorry I'm really dumb and new to this. Can you please explain exactly how this works and what to do?

      • And you're already on an existing Telstra plan when you do this?

        • Any time. I don't cancel the old one at all until time of chat.

    • I did this last time (about 2 years ago), not sure if they've cottoned onto this trick though so ymmv…

    • Successfully done it the last two years for both me and my partner.

  • Damn, literally just signed up for this plan, and I think I am just outside the 7-day price protection.

    • I signed up on the weekend for $99 p/m with $1200 GC

      What's the 7day price protection

      • I signed up on Sunday too. This feels like it’s just the $10 port in credit guaranteed, but would be interested to know if anyone manages to get a further reduction/extra gift card to the $240 value etc.

I actually managed $20 port in credit but for the first 12 months only

        • wow thats a good deal to get the $20 off

        • So the same deal as this

        • @CecilTheChair How were you able to get the $20 port in credit? What team did you speak to?
Have been trying to get a port-in credit of $10 or $20 and both sales and retention team are acting dumb like its impossible. :/
          Thank you

          • +1

@loveyou3000: Just Telstra chat. I just said JB hi fi said I could get port in credit. It sounds like some are lucky and some not so try a few different agents.

  • Is it possible to cancel and pay early termination fee?

    • +2

Doable but need to repay prorata GC value. It shows up in termination fee screen.

  • Damn, I just signed up to the $99 deal for a $1000 gift card yesterday. Kind of annoying

    • -1

Call them and ask them to match this

  • Rip me who signed up to $99 p/m w $1200 GC on the weekend.

    • Rip

    • -2

What , Did someone die ?

    • -1

Cooling off period? Return the gift card. Signup again?

  • If my phone is close to 3yrs old and i just pay $30 a month prepaid (optus), would this be a good deal/value for upgrading phone?

I'm incapable of figuring it out xD

    • Only if you want to be out of pocket $9 more per month and need to spend $1200 on a phone.

      • Still , there is some good phone deals right now . Spend most (gift card) , and keep some for a rainy day ✔️

    • +20

If you're currently on Optus for $30/mth, over 24 mths it would total $720.

With this Telstra/JBHiFi offer at $89/mth, over 24mths it would total $2136.
However, when you factor in the $1200 gift card, it would bring down the 24 mths total to $936, which is equivalent to $39/mth.

Therefore, Optus $30/mth vs Telstra $39/mth (after factoring in $1200 gift card).

A few other things to consider:

      • How's the Optus v Telstra reception in your area (home, work, cafe/shops/parks that you regularly visit)?
      • How much data do you get with your Optus as compared to the 300GB with Telstra?
      • How much data do you actually use per month?
      • Can you afford the extra monthly payments?
      • Do you have something in mind right now that you want to spend $1200 with JB HiFi? e.g. a new phone/tablet/computer/TV etc.
      • +2

IMO $1200 gift cards are worth $1020. Apparently it's $46.5 per month.

        • What makes you say they're worth $1020?

          • +5

@Lightnight212: Because coles have 15% off Gift cards that allow you to use at JBHIfi

      • +9

@viewfinder Mate you're a legend, you answered everything. Truly appreciate this and the time you took kind stranger. <3

      • Optus would be 4G, correct? While Telstras certainly 5G

    • +1

Also, keep in mind you are locking yourself up to this deal and excluding yourself from another deal that may come up in the meantime (cheaper deal with smaller GC / 12 months only etc).

  • +1

Seems quite good a deal for single person, young couple or a small family not with extensive video streaming.
    $1200 JB Gift Card = $1080 cash (10% off).
The remaining equals to $44/month for 300GB Telstra data for 24 consecutive months.

    • How do you get 10% off Jbhifi gift cards?

      • +2

        Sell em at 10% discount

        • Where can we sell the gift cards?

          • +2

            @thinkpanther: Ozbargain classifieds

            • @Nuggets: I just got some TCN at 15% but if JB guys are going to not match other retailers, i will be selling em there too. Just have to be cautious who and how you sell to or buy from

    • -1

      *200GB
If im reading it correctly its 200GB + 100GB bonus, and the bonus ends at the end of december
      based on the website anyway
      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/jb-mobile-instore

I mean 200gb is still good, but the add is false advertising. It always annoys me when companys get you in the door with one price/deal and then when you go to pay they explain no its something else, should be illegal

      • You're reading it wrong. The 300 GB is for the life of the plan. But the offer expires end of the year

        • Oh right I guess that makes more sense than offering only one month of bonus data for a 24 month contract.

  • Anyone know what the early termination fee would be?

    • Whole gift card + $480 something, so total $1680 something

    • It's covered in the CIS

  • +3

im guessing the days of the 12 month plans are over?

    • Still offered just with less voucher credit $69 12 month you get $300 card instead of $600 for 24 months

    • +1

This has always been a 24 month plan.

      • The first jb hi fi voucher deal was 12 months, in which I partook

  • If I already have boost mobile but want to start a 2nd plan with a new number for work, will I still get the $1200 gift card deal?

    • +1

Yes, I have 2 different Telstra numbers under the same account.

      • Thanks ckria:-)

  • Any specials on the 12 month plans?

  • can you port from telstra pre paid?

    • +1

Port means coming from a different provider. See the fine print under the banner

  • +1

Miss the $89 12 months plan with free S21

  • How come the JB site says giftcard ends on 24/11/22??? When it hasn't started yet

  • whats the $69 plan?

    • You do 6 and she does 9. Natural contraception plan

      • +6

You should get your head out of your arse !

        • Lol

        • +1

          Or hers

      • -1

I'm 12 years of age and what is that?

  • Count me out this time, i'm sticking with my s20+ and a boost prepaid card for like $10 a month

    • For most people yeah, it's a bit overboard but I was already in the market for a new phone and the min cost of the $89 (now $69) plan is about:

      69 x 12 x 2 = $1656 - $1200 GC = $456 / 24 = $19 per month for a 300GB plan - it's a very good offering/

  • Any Optus deals? I am already with Telstra
