      They will throw your internet

We are a throw fast ISP.

    • +1

I signed up to these guys - surprisingly their technical support was really good.

  • Do I need to notify my current provider (Tangerine) to cancel current service or will the new provider(AusPost) do that?

    • Normally the current provider will do that, but Tangerine is one company that doesn't do pro rata and also likes to play dumb about it when you leave.

I ported out from Tangerine to Superloop more than week before my current month was up and it was all completed with a week to spare. Despite being out before the new billing period even began, Tangerine still charged me for the upcoming month anyway then made up some BS that I didn't tell them although I was clearly no longer a customer and even admitted it. Still didn't get refunded.

      So yes, contact them.

      • +1

        Lodge a TIO complaint?

        • +2

I should have mentioned that I did. Ongoing 6 weeks now.

      • -1

Why did you still pay your bill for the upcoming month then? If I were you I will just ignore/contest that bill instead of trying to get a refund.

        • +3

It was automated direct debit each month. No reason for me to assume they would be stupid enough to continue taking money from my account once I was no longer a customer.

I obviously contested it and they kept giving me the run around even after ombudsmen involvement. It's still ongoing.

          • @Freezies: Could you do a credit card charge back? That's been pretty helpful for me when services weren't rendered

      • Even More telecom doesnt do pro rata. I am trying to cancel it and they are saying you will be charged for full month if you do it after start of new billing cycle.

  • Serious question, why do these deals only last 6 months? Is there like a legal time limit on it or something?

    • +5

NBN Co funds the discount and they specify 6 months.

      • Oh! Thanks!

      • Seriously? Even though we have perpetual discount by churning?
Though my AGL discount is for 12 months.

      • Does NBN really fund the discounts? If so why doesn’t more ISP offer discounts like this? Only a small handful do.

        • +2

The discount is from the wholesaler (nbn) to the retailer (isp). There is no condition that the discount must be passed to the end customer.

          • @illusion99: yea nar, i dont think so. I havent read any discounts provided from NBN for 12/1 to ISP. Only if ISP can upgrade their customers, not for new 12/1 sign ups. Happy to be proven wrong

            • +1

@cloudy: Yes the NBN discount start from 50/20
It’s not a case of all discounts for every single offering is funded by NBN. It’s most likely a commercial decision by the isp to offer a discount for 12/1 and 25/10 to make it consistent with the NBN funded discount across all their product lines

  • so better than aussie?

    • +1

      They are Aussie (Post)

  • +2

OP, worth adding a third column showing ongoing price after 10% off.

  • Do you know if the "Must purchase by 9/01/2023" only for the addition 10% or for the 25% as well (i.e. 35%)?

    • its for 25%..10% is ongoing as its a family and friend offer. so after 9/01/2023 you will get 10% off only.

      • If I sign up now but ask connection date in Feb 2023, Do I still get both discounts?
Or the latest connection date is 09.01.23?

  • +1

Careful, they might leave a calling card when the internet is idle

  • does Australia Post Broadband use cgnat?

  • +1

I’m currently on TPG 50/20 NBN for $75/month and the price seems more than slightly ridiculous. Any ideas for the best one to switch to? It’s just me, I use Teams/Zoom and various video streaming services. No gaming.

    • 50/20 should be plenty for you, even 25/10.
We use 50/20 and it’s 4 of us plus kids play online . Upgrading to 100/20 with Australia post though.

    • I recommend Superloop, good price and good performace. Ive been through many ISPs and they were the best. No dropouts and consistent speed. Obviously it can vary depending on your area but they have a solid reputation from most. Im going back to them very soon.

  • +1

What’s the price per-stamp for email?

  • +2

If their nbn is anything like their postal service, no thanks…..

  • +6

Wouldn't trust em with their history of packet loss

  • Auspost was instant connection!

    • What do you mean by instant? And I’m assuming this was during the week (business hours)?

I signed up last night (Friday night) and only got order confirmation email so far. Nothing else…

What did you get after sign up?

      • Updating to this, pretty much if it's a business day then it's instant…
I signed up on Saturday, got a call on Monday morning (early in the morning since I'm in WA and they're calling from … Vic I think).
Ensured my NBN Blackbox was plugged in, then they activated it and had to make sure my modem was using "DHCP" (or "Dynamic") network type (with my previous ISP I was using PPPoE).

Then I'm up and running on Monday morning ready for WFH 😄

        • How is it so far? Im looking to sign up in Perth but read somewhere about somethingsomething (im not good with terminology) over East so online gaming wont be as good? looking to hop over from Exetel if its good.

          • +1

@MeesusEff: Gaming wise it seems to be alright though my usage usually falls outside of the ‘average peak time’ (which I am assuming is around 6-8pm Perth time). If I do play games it will be after 8pm and for games like Counter Strike Global Offensive, I get about 50-70ms which is the same latency I got with a Perth based ISP (Pentanet) with NBN so… it hasn’t impacted my gaming much. Bear in mind, I don’t play games every night and when I do, I’m not an aspiring eSports player… I play competitive but for fun too.

I think the only thing I’m having issues these days (and I don’t know if this is related to CGNAT or IPv6, as I wasn’t using this with my previous ISP) is my Pi-Hole on my network. I seem to get some latency-like issues when I have my Pi-Hole setup as my DNS so I just turn my Pi-Hole off.

            • @YeboMate: Thanks! My husband does like to play the shooting style games so lag/ping? Would be a deal breaker for him. But no harm trying it out, cbb churning every few months

              • @MeesusEff: Yea the games I play are shooters too and they’re very much latency dependent so yea, essentially for me (in terms of gaming) it has been the same experience as when I was with Pentanet’s 50/20 NBN.

  • I can expect it to be unreliable and the after-sales customer service to be terrible.

  • do they do a credit check ?

  • +1

So many good nbn deals atm… currently with AussieBB and Im comfortable with them (and also happy). Dont want potential disruption as I work from home hmm

    • I'm in the same boat… think I might stick with what I know though

  • This deal or TPG 5g 100Mbps for Perth?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/737754

    • +1

5G might have better speeds but it might be up and down. I have 4G right now (in Perth but my area doesn’t support fixed 5G) and it gets high speeds but there are 2 things that annoy me:
      1. My speeds are better during the day and worse at night. I’m speculating that at night more people are at home and this taking up more cellular bandwidth in our area or something (just speculation on my part).
      2. As fast as 4G is, sometimes the initial connection takes a while. So when loading a webpage sometimes will have a slight delay. This is on and off as well, so sometimes it’s all fine sometimes there’s these little lags. And it can happen ‘mid session’ too so it might be fine but then suddenly pages are taking ages to load, I wait about 30 seconds then refresh and it’s back to loading fast.

We were able to work from home (2 of us) with 4G getting around 2-3 signal bars (out of 5). We use Telstra sim (mobile broadband) and the Telstra 4GX modem.

      • Thank you for a great feedback. 5G supports my area. And it's much cheaper deal as well. I reckon it shouldn't drop less than 50Mbps even in evening if I'd go for tpg 100.

Any suggestions shall I go for TPG, Vodafone or iiNet. As all there have similar deal.

        • I wouldn’t know which one is better or worse.

  • +3

Just swapped across from Aussie as my 6 month promo period was finishing in 2 days. In total, the process from signing up to becoming active took all of 5 mins. So far getting comparable speeds to Aussie. Great result!

    • First time moving NBN from one ponvider to another. Do I need to inform the old provider or do they get notified automatically?

      • +3

FTTP will generally activate on the next port so in that case you definitely should. Other techs (FTTN/FTTC/HFC) the losing provider will be notified but it never hurts to give them a call when your churn is completed.

      • +2

You need to inform your old provider to cancel their service. Most are very quick and helpful, except for Exetel who trap you for an additional 30 days before cancelling your service

  • Austalia Post does everything like telecommunications services, stationary sales, the electronic item sells, and photo taking, but they barely do Postage Services at the movement. So funny.. , They lost my 2 parcels during the delivery within 2 months and Currently waiting for express delivery which has already taken 10 days so far.

    • +1

most of my parcels in the past 2 months get "delayed" and spend 1-2 weeks sitting in a sorting centre until i open a case and they mysteriously get it moving again in a day. now, if it says delayed and hasn't had any updates for a few days, i just open another case. express post has become so much of a joke they had to remove the "next day" guarantee.

  • Hi folks, if moving from TPG's NBN 50 Cable, will there be a need to buy any new hardware?

  • +1

How's the connection in WA? Could anyone in WA who is using/has used their service share some experience? I read from the other post that spintel is no good due to the lack of POP in WA.

  • +2

Just signed up on FTTP 1000 plan. Activated 1 minute after signing up, turned off the modem and switched to port 2 and suprisingly it's all working when I turned it back on.

    5 minutes swapover in total.

    Getting 650 /45

    • +4

Hi, do you need to change anything in the modem? Currently I am with exetel so I will need to switch in one month time anyway. It would be nice not needing to enter details

Edit: found the answer all good
      BYO modem settings for FTTP/FW/FTTC/HFC
Your existing NBN modem should automatically connect with Australia Post Broadband. If you do experience connectivity issues, please give us a call on 1300 196 916.

For advanced users, here are the modem settings you should use:

      DSL mode/interface type: Ethernet Wan
Internet connection type: Dynamic or IPOE or DHCP
      No VLAN ID
      Obtain IP address automatically
      Wireless router mode (TP-Link only)

      • +1

No config changes needed at all. Just swapping the port on the nbn box and power off and on.

    • Yes, activation is just in few minutes

  • Wow, I switched over within a few minutes. I wish they deliver parcels that quick. Now I need to call MyRepublic tomorrow to stop them from charging me.

    • I'm not impressed just because they can switch your internet service over quickly and start billing you quickly.
More importantly is how fast their internet speed is and how fast they can fix your problem if any arise.

  • +2

If you're using a PPPoE connection, make sure to switch to Automatic IP when the service switches to AusPost

  • Did anybody get an activation email after signing up. Seems like lot of ppl got activated immediately.

    • +1

I got email but I’m still Exeter. I asked to be activated on 29/12 as I needed to give Exetel 1 month notice.

      • supposed to be like a 5 minutes

        • I didn’t want it after 5 minutes. I got email straight away but I want activation in a month, since Exetel want notice

          • @fozzie: I'm in a similar boat, was the delayed activation all good with your signup? It didn't occur straight away?

            • +1

@Majosha: Correct, I’m still with Exetel atm. Will connect on 29/12 fingers crossed.

  • +1

switched from aussieBB to AusPostBB thanks to this deal - should be about $250 cheaper over the next year.

Connection was activated very quick, about 5 minutes on a weekend but I couldn't get it to connect. Had to wait until monday (today) to call support and they provided a username and password for PPPoE and then it worked straight away.

Getting good speeds so far - with aussie I was getting about 12Mbps on average, so far getting 20+ with auspost (fixed wireless, 7km from tower with lots of trees and stuff in the way).

    Holy Moly !!!
Was with Optus 50/20 paying over $95 every month as landline is extra $10 but doesn't include 13 numbers at 30 cents each.
Applied for Australia Post Broadband and 2 minutes later landline has been transferred to old number, and internet working with Optus modem router which Optus says was unlocked.
In shock because these days i hang on the phone for an hour when i call health fund or bank etc.
    Thanks OP for posting

  • If only the churn speed was as good as their delivery speed. I churned in under 10 minutes.

  • +1

Ok, so I was looking to sign up and get this deal including the 10% discount but code is no longer valid. Had a look online and read through the T&C's.

To those that signed up for the additional 10% off, please be aware that AusPost may do this as per the T&C's -

Point 5. Australia Post reserves the right to review the currency/validity of any APS/WFID Number used in relation to the Workforce Discount Offer from time to time. In the event Australia Post becomes aware that an APS/WFID Number is invalid, no longer current or has otherwise being used not in accordance with these terms and conditions, Australia Post reserves the right to:

    • withdraw the Workforce Discount Offer from any or all Australia Post Broadband services activated using that APS/WFID Number; and/or
    • seek to recover from the Australia Post Broadband service holder the amount of any discount(s) applied to the Australia Post Broadband service not in accordance with these terms and conditions.
    • Do we need to enter a APS/WFID Number in the signup process? I thought this was just publically avaiable…

    • +2

Its family and friends offer so you dont need to have APS number

      • -1

Weird, tried again with the order and inputting the code and it works again. And for the life of me I can't find those T&C's as they came up when the code was not working.

  • +1

I signed up and internet transferred in minutes. However, if you want your landline phone number ported over to AP DO NOT cancel your old landline service like i did, because i permanently lost my 40 year old landline number. At least i won't get the daily phone calls from scammers

    • +1

Sad that you miss the scammers. Hope you find em later haha

  • +1

Hope this helps a few people

I had a amplfi HD router (reset to default settings) that wouldn't connect, and an ubiquiti dream machine router that also wouldn't connect.

Port 1 was still connected with aussie broadband and working fine. Port 2 should have been connected with aus post broadband, neither modem would auto connect.

Spoke to someone, probably in the phillipines who was fairly helpful with troubleshooting. They had to SMS me a username and password for PPPOE and i switched it over in the settings and that worked.

You do not get sent/emailed PPPOE details by default and need to call them to ask for it

Up and running just fine once manually set to PPPOE with the password.

They seem to use B2B wholesale Pty LTD (whoever they are - I couldn't get many details) as their white label provider. Perhaps it's this company although that is BTB https://www.btbaustralia.com.au ?

Speed test at 725/45 once up and running.

    • Thanks - they've escalated for me. I tried plugging straight to my laptop, also ng on my Asus RT-88U.

      • Update: they must've fixed something on their end, because it was working fine when I swapped my cable from UNI-D1 to UNI-D2, didn't even need to restart the router.

  • +1

Also note, according to the whirlpool thread (and confirmed by myself), all IP4 routing is via Sydney or Melbourne. So not great if you are in Perth.

    • What does this mean in practice?
Does this only affect people who want the lowest ping and are currently paying for a static IP? Does this make any difference if the game server is offshore anyway?

I just tracert'd google.com with AussieBB in Perth and I see an entry for ext2.cgnat.otw.bne.aussiebb.net and my ping is 52ms

  • +1

I have signed up to Auspost NBN plan from Superloop, Spoke to Superloop whether they want to match the pricing and was declined.

    • I am now connected with Auspost NBN, speed and pings are good so far. Only time will tell.

  • +1

Should I go More for 12 months or this… humm

    • More gave me pretty reliable speed. 53/18 24/7 on their 50/20 plan.

  • Is anyone using Aus Post NBN in Melbourne? (South Eastern suburbs).. Any feedback?

  • +1

at least their support is easy to contact and you're not left waiting on hold for a long time. and they're pretty persistent too about calling you. nbn co just sucks for everyone to deal with.

  • After 4 years I'm churning from mate communicate. Let's see how it goes.

    • Are you moving because of speeds? They detoriated big time for me in Sydney, now with Exetel but will go Auspost at the end of the month.

FYI about cancellation, I got this from live chat:

Me: if I cancel on a day, say halfway through my billing period, does this get pro-rataed?

AP: Since our service is paid in advance, there's no cancellation fee since we don't have lock-in contracts.

Me: Would I get pro-rata refunds if I cancel part way through the billing period then?

AP: Thank you for patiently waiting. If you decide to cancel your service after signing up with us, we can open a ticket for a refund request. But I want to set the proper expectation that this is subject to approval.

Me: ok, so just to confirm, at this time the policy does not guarantee a refund if I cancel before the billing period ends if I have already pre-paid it?

    AP: Yes, that is correct.

    • I think most of the NBN provider did the same thing. You must cancel close to the end of your billing period which normally at end of the month.

  • Just cancelled my Superloop. Wouldn't continue my disocunt. Anyone know in short CGnat will affect gaming pings and latency? Mainly play Dota 2. Thanks OzB fam

    • +1

It will probably not make any difference to you.

  • If I purchase this and choose a later date to connect does the billing cycle start on that day?

    • when its activated / connected

    • I signed up today for the service to be activated around the 27th Dec, and credit card was charged today.
