Xiaomi Redmi Pad (10.61" 2K, 4GB/128GB, Helio G99, Widevine L1) US$202.70 (~A$301.69) Delivered @ Xiaomi Authorized AliExpress

BFS22

On sale for a good price and cheaper than launch last month is this more budget friendly Android tablet from Xiaomi's sub-brand Redmi. If you're looking for general use, playing media like Netflix in HD and a bit of gaming, then this is a good option. Plus it has more premium quality control over some cheaper brands.

Featuring Android 12 (MIUI 13 for Tablets), Widevine L1 DRM for Netflix HD, 10.61" 2000x1200 display with 90Hz refresh rate & 400nits brightness, 4GB RAM, 128GB storage (supports MicroSD), MediaTek Helio G99 CPU, 8000mAh battery with 18W PD charging, 4 speakers with Dolby Atmos, 8MP Front & Rear Cameras, WiFi AC, Bluetooth 5.3 and USB-C.

The downsides of this tablet is that there's no GPS and the MediaTek Helio G99 is a weaker CPU than some Qualcomm counterparts. The Helio G99 however is more power efficient so it offers good battery life paired with the 8000mAh battery and can still handle games. In terms of reviews this one covers it well

  • @clear this or the Lenovo Xiaoxin Pad 2022 you posted on 24/11, is widevine main plus of this one over the Xiaoxin?

    • Yeah Widevine is certainly a plus. Now that the Xiaoxin Pad 2022 has been revealed to have no Widevine. What else are you planning on using it for?

      • will be used by kids to play games predominantly and surf net, no real HD content viewing.

        • This would be sufficient then.

          • @Clear: Sounds likes the xiaoxin would be sufficient too?

            • @crackman: If you don't care about updates or widevine the Xiaoxin 2022 is fine.

      • I bought a Xiaoxin pad P12 the boot loader is unlocked so no widevine L3 and also no global rom yet which i didn't know when i bought it, Its using software from the K10 pro. You can trick android into thinking the boot loader is locked but i have not tried it yet. Or you can lock the boot loader but it could brick the device i guess.
        Wait for the global rom.
The G99 is faster than the SD680.

I thought 6GB RAM is the new norm these days?

  • Good description, thank you.

  • No 5 gee

  • Are these better than the Lenovo M10 HD? Because Lenovo just know how to freeze

    • Which gen do you know?

      • 2nd

        • +2

Same RAM but a much more snappy CPU. Xiaomi tend to have more optimised software than Lenovo so it should outperform it.

          • @Clear: I've never had a decent tablet unless it was a Samsung S or A8… Everything just lags

    • 2nd gen Lenovo M10 sucks. 3rd gen is better which has a better chipset (Helio G80) and 2k Res. Andriod 12 with 3 years of updates.

      • is it also slow?

        • Nah it’s good. Can play FIFA mobile on it lol.

    Can you download more RAM?

    • +2

Funny you should say that. Android 12 does have expandable RAM where you can use a portion of the storage as virtual RAM. I'm not sure if MIUI in this tablet has it.

    • Yes definitely, but it depends on your download speed. The higher your download speed, the more RAM you can download.

  • Is this a good upgrade from my 2012 Nexus 7?

    • Is yours still going?

Had to give mine up when the battery started to bulge.

      • I was about to ask the same thing.. Lol

My touch screen developed dead spots yrs ago.
And got super laggy too, even after factory reset.

I hope my battery doesn't bulge, coz mine serves as a wall Clock now (plugged into charger 24hrs)!

        • Oh wow, yours is legit still going, nice!!

      • Haha nah I was just taking the piss. Mine died within two yrs of buying it, wouldn't turn on

  • This should be significantly more grunty than all those unisoc T618 tablets right ?

  • My 2012 Nexus 7 is still going strong!

    • I wonder why that is, that some keep going some dont. Should be exactly the same hardware, from the same factory?

  • Anyone here have experience using one of these to install Windows? I've seen some tutorials online but not sure if it's worth using as a cheap surface replacement.

    • If doing it to tinker. Sure why not but to actually use instead of a surface device. Dont do it.

  • Cheers Clear, another banger. I think this would be a winner, except for the lack of cover/stylus options - which is for some, myself included, a dealbreaker. Any good deals on the Pad 5?

    • The usual sellers for the Pad 5 aren't included in the sale. I'll look later to see if I can find others

  • BigW have Tab A8 for $379 go to OW or JB beat it by 10% for $50 or so more and better specs and device support why go with Xiaomi?

    • but officeworks have it for $347?

    • +4

Better specs? Are you sure? A8's T618 CPU is almost 50% less powerful than the G99, it has half the storage, smaller battery, no fast charging, lower resolution display, lower brightness and lower refresh rate to name a few. It does have GPS however.

When it comes to updates Samsung provide 3 years of major updates and Xiaomi 3 major updates.

  • Redmi Pad or the M10 Plus 3rd gen?

    • +1

      M10 has G80 cpu this has G99…
and im gonna guess lenovo has 60hz… this is 90hz screen…
      camera is better

i'm in the same boat - prob go for this

only thing is i havent ordered from aliexpress in a long time/not sure about delivery times/service?

      • My orders from 11/11 have been arriving the last 2 weeks. It could be similar with this hopefully. Then again it is close to Christmas.

        • Does your redmi pad comes with global custom rom? or official xiaomi rom?

  • Hey Clear, what tablet do you recommend around $400 for Netflix/light gaming?

  • Anyone knows the average delivery time to Aus (Melb) if anyone ordered?
