Had the pepper steak version of these pies and they weren't too bad microwaved to start with then crisped up in the oven.

  • Very nice

Will go very nicely with my chico rolls.

    • +3

Perfect to dip the chico rolls in
Just rip the lid off the hot pie and go for it.

      Chiko.
Chicos are those chocolate jelly babies.

      • Used to be! Cheekies now. Red Skins lollies are Red Ripperz. Coon cheese is Cheers.

          Cheers ya cheeky redskin

Good pies but showing as full price for me in QLD

    • Just googled it and they are showing up as $4

      • Thanks. I’m getting a range of prices via google but some are ‘free out of stock’ but they are actually in stock near me. Might have to check in store. I liked the pork ones when I’ve had them previously.

Gotta grab a couple for watching Messi's last World Cup game

Never seen these in my life not available in NSW that's for sure.

    • +2

Yeah they’re not available here. They should call them state pies.

      • They look good. But the 25% beef looks pretty average.

Bought some in Coffs Harbour a few months ago
That said -nothing very amazing about these pies.

( bought as single packed pies)

      • +1

Seems special order or something, my coffee truck guy has them, I put them on the same sort of level as the servo pies you get, gets the job done but nothing to write home about.

    • They had them in 8-packs in Costco (4 flavours). Not bad. Prefer their pastry to Herbert Adams (although to be fair HA is frozen), and easily better than the Garlos or whatever that other brand is called.

      • +2

Whaaat, Herbert Adams pies are way better!

        • Wasn't saying that they're better or worse. Just stating my own personal preference specifically regarding the pastry :-)

I like the thin and flaky lids of the National ones, with better crisp and crunch when cooked in an oven rather than microwaved. And the base is also thinner so there's a higher filling to pastry ratio, but admittedly that makes them structurally weaker, meaning they sometimes falls apart.

    • My local has them, but just the singles at $3.50 each.

    • Definitely bought mine in NSW. You must be short-sighted if you have visited every store in NSW and still couldn't find any.

  • Ive bought them at perth costco

  • +6

    these are average at best
    bought once never again

  • I love these pies.

If only we could get them in NSW..

    • You can in the freezer section not fresh unfortunately as Garlos owns NSW

    Is this National Panasonic

  • Have these got chunks of meat in them or just mince?

    • +1

Chunks. Not big chunks, but I prefer it that way, rather than having to chew through a giant gob of meat covered in scorching hot pie sauce.

  • I've eaten a lot of pies in my time, and these are my favorite. The curry chicken pie is the best curry chicken I've had.

  • +1

Yes some odd comments in here (preference I know).

National pies are right up there, if not the best, for mass-produced pies in Aus IMO

  • +1

They are OK. The Aldi Herbert Adams Knockoffs are better by far.

    • bought a pack for the first time to try last month
first pie had a huge inedible fatty gristle chunk….wont be buying again

    • I have to agree. Both the chicken and camembert and the sous vide beef are very good. Have bought heaps of worse ones at rated bakeries.

  • The chicken and camembert ones are decent.

  • I'm over the goverment tryhing to pressure brain-wash us into eating more meat, I demand more vegetarian (not vegetable) alternatives!

    • +2

get with the times…its all about insect & bug based diets these days

      • That could be classified as vegetarian.

      • +3

Shut up and eat your bugs bigot!

  • +1

these or linda mccartney vegetarian sausage rolls…?

    • +1

      Chiko rolls.

      • and a couple potato cakes. bang on.

  • The one with cheese is really good.

  • mrs mac pies are pretty decent if you dont want to use an oven

  • +1

It is a pie that NSW rejects :)

  • +1

    They are crap now
They changed for the worse when they got the National (No pun intended) distribution deal

As a native Asmanian they were my Pie of choice since forever but now they are Crap Sadly
