  • FHR or LHR ?

    • -1

If it came from mining as indicated it would be FHR

      • +3

LHR cards got a software unlock for relatively close to full hash rate, so can't rule that out unfortunately…

        • This is true, but I'm thinking these are probably older cards having worked a hard life in the mines, could very well pre-date LHR.

    • +3

      No difference for gaming

      • +1

yeah, why bother asking FHR vs LHR these days.

Where are all these reputable Shops getting these ex mining GPU's? (I have seen a few so far trying to sell off bulk ex mining GPU's)

Were their own staff/owners hording all the GPU's for their own personal Mining setups while leaving Gamers (real customers) out to dry?

    • +8

Maybe the store had their own mining operation?

    • +3

Intriguing. Perhaps the margins on computer hardware sales is so low that it is the route they took.

      • +1

I'd do the same too if I had a store.

        • +16

How many customer did they Lie to saying they could not get any cards?

    • +2

I know that in China, miners are selling their graphics cards in units of tons. So it can be one of the big supplier(s) who bought a batch and tried to sell to the retailers?

    • +1

My guess, people are bringing over containers full of ex-mining cards from China, then selling those to retailers (the supplier would get less profit per card, but would be able to offload them a lot easier than one-by-one on eBay etc).

    • I love random conspiracy theories that hold no merit on my deal hunting forums!

    • I think a fair few come from China, buying bulk ex-mining rigs or individual cards in bulk. Was reading in forums how people are buying and reselling on ebay for profits.
I'd like to know the fair dinkum condition is on these cards….. hours on, temps, voltage run at, how many crashes and stuff. I know most were run undervolted due to power costs and to keep temps down but you never know.
First thing i'd be doing is tearing it down to replace the old stock thermal pastes with some noctua nh2 or arctic mx5.

  • hmmmm , last pic shows some text on the board iteeslf "v20001" - most likely LHR

their last deal on the 3070 TIs for $557.07 was quite positive in the comments

Here's the biggest difference: "warranty lasts until January 2025" for the deal you linked.

The one here says 3 MONTHS warranty, is that even legal under Australian Consumer Laws?

      • +4

Yeah used things don't even require a warranty I don't think. Used cars must be 3mo?

      • +4

What @incipient said, second hand has no implied warranty or coverage under the ACL.

  • These trashes are sold by weight (measured in kilograms) in Vietnam.

    • +3

No worries, I would like 200kg of 3080ti.

    • +1

      Meme? or fact checked?

      • -1

        There you go.

        • That was a parody video btw

  • +2

Asked Metrocom about the warranty on these, they said that they don't have the original invoice, like they did the previous 3070Ti deal, but one example card was from April 2021, meaning warranty though April 2024.

  • +12

Avoid if can. Better to pay more for a real warranty and better history. Miners and retailers that helped them do not deserve your money. They are trying to make max profit for doing nothing from modern day Ponzi scam. Do not help these freeloaders make money off you. Let them keep their overused, flogged, and abused parts. They wanted to make money by doing nothing in return for it except for driving prices up, wasting resources mining. so let them rot with it. This is what they deserve.

      amen brother,

    • It's also even worse to buy an ex-mining card in Australia as the cards are usually mined outside in a garage or something, due to it being too hot to have them inside the house, thus they become absolutely filthy and accumulate a lot of corrosion.

      • +1

Take the heatsink off and throw them in a dishwasher. Couldn't stop laughing at a youtube video of a person doing it…. stopped laughing when it came out spotlessly clean lmao!

  • Buy something like this instead. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/743500

    • AMD is not for everyone though, some workstations can be useless with AMD
      For gaming, probably OK

    • +1

Problem is the RX 6700 is about 10% slower than a RX 6700 XT, which is already 20% slower than a 3070 (at 4k).

      • Price wise tho, the 6700 is slightly lower in cost close to the cost of this mining card, so comparing price not performance, its New, wont go pop and if it does you got a real warranty for long time.
If you really want Nvidia and more performance, I would still recommending buy new, just for the history and a real warranty.

        • I mean you can buy used, just make sure you have a copy of the sales invoice.

    • Slower card, not comparable.

  • hehe where are the previous HOLDers (like me too, but ended up getting an used RTX3090, probably mining too)

    • +3

Still HODLing on my 1060 6Gb, until RDNA 3 cards gets released next week along with specs and performance results. No need to rush to get these old mining cards, as prices will only drop further.

      • +3

I doubt they will drop a whole lot further any time soon considering the prices we're going to be seeing for the new stuff. Especially not in the mid-range.

        • +2

It's simple supply and demand, if people want a used mined card and were willing to pay what the miners demand then the price will stay there, if people stopped buying them then the price will drop further until they are sold.

Personally, I dont want to pay for used mining card for anything over 40% of MSRP.

          • +2

@binary101: I bought a $500 3060 (Asus Ko) a few months back and oddly prices still haven't dropped that low again from what I've seen. A few 3060s have dropped to sub $500 (though generally not as reputable brands from the deals I've seen), but general prices are still higher than that, even with a whole new gen of cards released.

The 3090 seems to have become impossible to buy new with production stopped, and prices I've seen are higher than deals a few months ago. It's a pity, because I'd love the 24gb of vram for work but the 4090 is just too nuts as the only other option.

            • +1

@CodeExplode: Hence why im still HODLing, this is purely speculation on my part but I hope that when RDNA 3 arrives, venders will reduce price on existing RDNA 2 stock which will hopefully also force Nvidia to bring down 3000 & 4000 series to a more reasonable price.

Again, im currently doing fine with mine GTX 1060, there are games that I want to play like MS flight sim and cyberpunk but i've got a big enough backlog to keep me busy for at least another year.

            • +1

I got an used 3090 at the day they have released 4090. I thought prices won't come down any more. Looking at used 3090 sold prices in Ebay, it seems that prices are going up. I got it also for productivity tasks / 24 GB and I don't game much, even I got 1080p 60 Hz monitors lol.

              • @bazingaa: Looking at ebay's sold listings now, there seems to be a huge range in prices 3090s are going at ($1000-$1500) which is hard to understand the reasoning for. It might have to do with blower fan style or not.

  • I'm tempted by these used 3070's and 6700xt's, but kinda hoping for a bigger upgrade from my 5700xt.
Where are all the similarly reasonably priced 3080's and 6800xt's?

    • There are none atm, there is a weird shortage at that price and performance range. Internet does not know why, by my googling. Internet does not know when prices will reduce post covid and post crypto. Invisible hand of economics says "eventually". It is being very invisible though, atm.

      • There’s potentially less made than previous generations considering the cost to manufacture and ship, so quite potentially we might not see a flood. The death of sli saw people offload their second card at a premium for example, 1080tis and under were at a premium during covid

  • Do any of these cards suffer from Crypto-Lung?
