It's almost as good as doing it yourself, for free, using etax from the ATO.

In fact, one of the most expensive accountancy firms I talked to knew almost as much about how to maximise my tax return as I did (from reading a few lines from the help files in etax).

It's handy if you still want to do all the hard stuff - collecting documents, working out amounts - but want to give $70 to someone else to spend the 5 minutes entering everything into etax.

    • If you use tax agent, you can delay your tax return till mid-May 2013, instead of by 31-OCT due date for the case that you lodge it by yourself. That's good if you know you will have to pay ATO extra tax upon lodging your tax return.

The drawback is however, for the next financial year 2013/14, ATO will flag you as possibly owing them money. It will then you a quarterly prepaid tax invoice until you lodge your tax return.

Or you can do it yourself and save $70

The difference is if you use a tax agent the chances of being audited is much much lower than doing throung etax, and some firms can claim some deductions you are unable to claim on your own (too dodgy to claim) such as homeoffice, travel, laundry, stationary.

Lol i am a registered accountant n a tax agent and i think it opposite lol… There are more chances of getting auditted via tax agent than u by urself because tax agents if doing alot of dodgy tax returns comes under greater scrutiny :) i do tax returns for $40 if its single income return any investments costs more :)

      • yeah. i agree with Manno. my firm was audited twice sspent bastard of a time in court. but we f-ing won.

      • which company are you from?

Tax return is your responibilty and you will sign for it, and pay for all the invalid claims the tax agent did on your behalf.
A serious fee for doing a tax return should be around $300. I always do mine, and I know how much time it takes to do a reliable job to claim as much as legally possible.

My tax agent does individual ones for $49.

Would you trust your tax return to someone on "mushydeals"?

  • Its $69 here http://www.taxspot.com.au/

Isnt this the normal feefor a tax return?

    Not a bargain.

Will also cost more if you have extra items. Misleading post.

  • How is this a bargain?

  • Other cheaper services around. No deal
