For me it's mainly for the fitness and health sensors. I also am in the Apple ecosystem so it has a few handy features like unlocking my devices. I also enjoy wearing watches rather than not.
We bought one for dad as he is alone now and prone to falls. Watch let’s us know he had one, and it will contact 000 with location info if he doesn’t stop the alert. Much cheaper than the old subscription services that have have a pendant that goes around the neck.
For younger people, well it is a pretty cool gadget. And better than carrying your phone on a run. Automatically unlocking your Mac etc is also pretty cool.
Yeah ok. Seems like I won’t actually have any use for one at the moment personally. I wear a mechanical watch daily, just haven’t seen a use for a smartwatch yet.
Perhaps when there is a solar version in the future that only needs charging once a week or so, then it will become more appealing!
Yeah the biggest pain with smart watches is daily charging. I have a solar watch as well and that lovely fella charges itself while also having a perpetual calendar. Love it.

You need an Apple phone to go with it. In my case between the iPad and watch I rarely take my phone out of my bag when out and about. You can answer the phone on your wrist. There are apps like the weather and messaging. The fitness apps.

If you live in Victoria there is no stock but if you're in another state you can try I spoke to Officeworks and they said no stock in Victoria and they will not be getting anymore in because of series 8

I always get the cellular one… means you can leave the house with just the watch and still listen to music, take calls/messages, pay for stuff as well as all the top notch health features.

Just a few tips for anyone who wants to use the gift card method and go through JB Hi-FI, call them first to confirm that they have the Apple Watch you want and ask them to price match it and then put it asside for you. Most of the time they will gladly do this, just be a little nicer on the phone to secure the purchase. They won't be thrilled putting through multiple for the purchase, but it's definately allowed so don't stress.
The gift cards are indeed 15% percent off, meaning that if you buy $500 worth (enough for the price match and a screenprotector) then you buy it for $425. Warning, Coles have a policy of 5 gift cards per customer per day and for the ones on sale it is only $30-$50 and NOT the loadble limit one. This would mean that you have to sneak back in to buy it an other transaction or get someone you know to do it for you. Just make sure that you're also getting one that has JB on it as some don't and cards are refundable.
Other than those tips, thanks OP for the post! I've been eyeing one for the past year so this is great. The store I went to actually matched the Nike one for me (which is usually an extra 30 ish bucks).

I actually bought the ultimate gift cards to buy a series 8 watch today. But saving $295 on the series 7 is too tasty. But went to jb Hi-Fi and they refused to convert the ultimate cards to jb Hi-Fi cards. I was nice and let the young lady manager say that they are not allowed to bla bla bla. Looks like I won’t be able to the the 7 since there are none in store.

I got the price-match link after 5 PM and couldn't go instore to finalise the purchase. The link will expire at midnight and might not be able to get another one if Amazon offer expires.
Just go at a different time or go to a different store. I got 2 Apple Watches today and paid 800 with 8 gift cards without any issues. I guess it depends on the staff.
I think the problem is there is no stock instore, so I have to purchase online, but can only use one of The Ultimate Gift Cards online. So I asked to convert the x5 $100 GC to x1 $500 JB HI FI GC so I am able to purchase online.
Don’t tell them you want to “convert”. Just say you want to “buy”. Might help.
Can you buy something else that costs around $400 to $500, then refund it? Something not too bulky, preferably shrink wrapped/sealed, so that it's obviously un-used.
Since they can't reload your gift cards, they have to give you a JB gift card.
Alternatively, just go in and say you’d like to “buy” JB hifi gift cards. When at the payment counter, just say you’re paying via gift cards and ask the operator to help.

I guess the price match will only be valid till the end of today so you will not be able to use them. But for those who want to convert the ultimate gift card to jb hifi gift card, this is what I have done:
purchase sth at the same price in store and then return it immediately and then you can get your refund as JB HIFI gift card. Due to the change of mind policy, there is no way that they can refuse to return the product, and there is no way that they can credit the ultimate gift card back to you - so they will only be able to give you the JB HIFI gift card with the same amount.
I think you can buy the individual amount Jb hifi gift card using the ultimate gift card and then use the job hifi gift card to buy the item as you can use multiple JB hi-fi gift cards online ?
It depends. I was told that I cannot buy gift card using gift card due to their policy. But I also heard that there is no issue in some other stores.
@kehuau: I managed to buy 4x $50 gift card but the rest keeps on cancelling saying failed verification. Tried multiple name, email addresses, phone numbers, physical addresses, incognito but they keeps on cancelling so gave up for now.
