  • CTEK rip off?

  • For those unfamiliar your car battery is most likely "Lead Acid" if your not sure just search it up on the manufacturers website and find the Safety Data Sheet.
Deep Cycle is more commonly found in commercial equipment or large 4WDS, Camping/Towing etc.

    • there are many types of compatible car battery in the market that ppl bought from stores / roadside assist to replace their original dead battery, other than the oem conventional lead acid battery
some ppl did this without knowing the difference or simply the battery came with their 2nd-hand car (previously changed by ex-owner)

some ppl fork out $ for premium optima agm battery to power their doof doof amps or pimped out car
agm battery mode charges at higher voltage on near peak

then you have this improved calcium ca-ca battery that doesn't cost much more than conventional lead acid battery, that often available easily from auto-stores or offered by roadside assist.
calcium battery meant to be charged at higher voltage vs. conventional lead acid battery

    This is a KickAss deal.

    Go-oloo or go home

  • those jumper lead cables look horribly thin

    • It’s a charger not a jump pack

      • yeah i should've had my coffee first.
still, do we trust the quality on this?

        • +3

They seem to make half decent products so I’d trust the quality, but I’d spend the extra $50 or so on victron. They’ve got models better suited to either portable use (IP65/67, fanless) or fixed. (IP22, 30A, Screw terminals) also have power supply mode and Bluetooth. Lots of good features the kickass one is missing.

          • @watts: nice.. thanks for the recommendation!

victron is my pick for chargers

    Hopefully there's enough Seeders

    • Haha i got that one

  • This looks too good to be true, and looking at the cable gauge to support 22A it probably is.

    Anyone have any experience?

    • +1

Zoomed in on a pic, looks like 18AWG and 105degC cable which is rated roughly 18A when you look at the charger specs it does say 22A “peak”

I may be mistaken on the 18AWG as it wasn’t super clear, but i would guess the rated 22A would be fine as current carrying capacity depends on air temp and cable length etc.
At least it uses 50A rated Anderson plugs ;)

Bought one of these many years ago, not this deal. Have been using on car battery. Top kit and handy to have around: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/454776

Bought the KICKASS 12V 20 Amp - 8 Stage Automatic charger over three years ago.
Have thourghly abused it since Sep 2019 when I bought it. Used for leadacid gel deep cycle, tractor batteries etc.
Left out in the elements ( no direct rain) and still works . Bought mine for $144 plus $12 for a large KickAss sticker to go on camper

  • The charger looks HUGE!

    • My victron ain’t no pocket size at amperage either.

      • Yeh ok but what’s it cost?

    • I have a 20A charger that’s 4-5 times the size of this without any of the features

  • From personal experiences Kickass is a trusted brand with quality gear in the camping world (solar panels, batteries etc) and I’ve had one of their smart chargers for a couple of years with no issues at all.

  • Was eyeing the Victron 25A charger. Cheapest I've seen is about $325.00 for the 3A difference. Will give this a try.

    • Is it worth the difference

      • is 3A or/and a prestige brand worth the difference?

Nobody can answer that for you. I’d ask what are you charging and are you in a hurry or/and can you anticipate a time where an extra 3A would make a real difference to you?

Some batteries wont take more than 20A in which case you might as well save a bit of money, unless you like having Victron on the casing.

    • It has Bluetooth tell history of charging I happy with mine

    • +1

you could go a bit down in capacity to the 15A Victron for ~$200, either the IP65 if you want portable or IP22 for fixed install. If you can live with 15A, which is probably plenty for most applications, I reckon its worth the extra $.

  • dang it missed out , back to 199

    • Its back to discounted price again

      • thanks friend

      • Back at RRP.

Great unit used a few times the week to keep battery topped up while camping. Also quickly charged up a neighbour campers car battery in their car no issues at all
