  • The 69,420 iq play would be to actually get via tggc at $389 and pay via 15% off gc in store if you got some last deal.

Just a note I never managed to post on last night's XM5 deal: I'd suggest these kinds of price drops reflect the audio quality jump we can expect in next year's Bluetooth LE Audio headphones. Sony previously overly tuned to basic codec standards instead of LDAC, and to a perceived consumer want for bass to mask outside noise while listening during transit.

Now, with LDAC all-but being replaced by an affordable offering and big players ready to weigh in with proven quality non-ANC gear as well as the multitude of ANC tweaks in the offing via machine learning advancements, you're looking at a big audio quality jump in this space. Mic quality should also improve fairly dramatically too through increased bandwidth and audio processing.

The TLDR here is if you don't need to buy now, don't. Expect lots of news out of CES in 3 weeks.

The price drop was more than likely a price error that caused a knock on effect to the commercial site (and other sites like amazon) - the sale price was clearly intended for the WH-1000XM4 not the WH-1000XM5 - made obvious by what was actually shown on the promo email, and the quick patch up. These are still in high demand - most retailers still only allow 1 per customer. Congrats to those who got a good price, I doubt we'll see a price this low until the next model up is out.

      • It was going for $380-$400 during Black Friday, so it's honestly not a shock. If the hardware on this isn't capable of LC3 low latency, the price is going to crater.

        • Oh really - do you have a link to the past deal? Kicking myself if I missed those $380-$400 as I have been following the price of these since release and kept a really close eye over black friday.

Camel^3 shows lowest of $493 ($469 3rd party). Ozbargain history shows most of the best sales still around $450+. One obscure ebay plus deal was $409.

Good pionts @jasswolf. CES headsets will certainly be a big improvement, and I personally feel that Sony skimped on some features, however….

…For those who jumped on this deal no real dramas - you will easily be able to flip these for more than the $350 you paid and trade up for those sweet CES gains.

      • you will easily be able to flip these for more than the $350

sealed maybe…do people actually buy second hand headphones?

        • And the problem flipping sealed headphones is that at least half the market for them are scams/knockoffs. At least they'll have a legit receipt to go with them
