  • Good to see they have a motorcycle plan as well. Couldn't find similar plan with RACV which is just poor form…

Couldn't find similar plan with RACV which is just poor form…

Check out the Victorian Motorcycle Council. $50 per year for roadside coverage, and supporting an advocacy group to speak on your behalf as a rider.
      https://victorianmotorcyclecouncil.org.au/benefits

I'm a member of the National Motorcycle Alliance (NSW) which has a similar offer. The NMA coverage also allows you to list your car as a secondary vehicle for a small additional fee.

      • Any similar thing available in Western Australia?!

        • Closest thing I could find was Motorcycle Assist Australia - https://mymcaa.com.au/

But I'm in NSW, and a member of the NMA (NSW), so I can't say whether these guys are a good deal.
Luckily the Premium plan has unlimited towing, which, being as big a bloody state as WA is, would probably be a wise investment.

  • +8

The 5 star plan seems to offer more than my premium NRMA membership.

    • +2

You reckon? I wonder how long you’d need to wait for help

    • Same as AANT in NT. These guys offer a lot more

  • +2

Anyone has actually tried them and can comment on how they compare to RACQ etc for response times and availability for callouts?

  • +53

If your car needs more than 4 callouts a year should probably not be on the road at all

    • +3

So a flat tyre, flat battery, keys locked in car, and another flat tyre is not foreseeable in a year?

      • +17

        See above

      • +13

Sounds like you need new tyres and be more responsible about car maintenance.

        • +4

What system do new tyres have to resist punctures, please regale us with this new technology.
Sounds like you don't drive on public roads where chippys and sparkies have ute tray full of loose screws, rolling claymores.
And what about the 70yr old with MS that cant replace a tyre, or doesnt have a family member to help jump start?

          • +2

            @Brian McGee:

What system do new tyres have to resist punctures

            They have more tread.

            • +4

@jv: and that stops a 6cm nail puncture how exactly?

              • +10

@Brian McGee: Why are you driving on 6cm nails?

                • +5

@jv: Because some inconsiderate chippy didn't put them in a sealed and secured container and scattered them on the freeway.

                  • -4

                    @Brian McGee: Report them.

                    • +5

@jv: Aren't you proof reporting someone does nothing?

                • +2

                  @jv:

Why are you driving on 6cm nails?

Why are you such a grinch?

              • @Brian McGee: Some are also self-healing (I think they have tar inside)

      • +12

I've had two flat tyres in 10 years, always carry a small jump starter (never had to use it), never locked the keys in the car. Would take deal but don't need it.

I get where you are coming from, if all that happened in a year I would be questioning it.

        • +3

If it all happened for two years in a row, I'd be questioning it. But they say bad luck comes in threes, so four callouts allows for that and a spare.

        • Same mate, +1
Both occasions, someone else was driving the car.
I had a flat battery cos the left the internal cabin lights on as I turned them on manually but now, learnt from it and set it to automatic, so they go off once the door is shut. I have it, but never had to use it.

Will take it for my motorbike though.

      • Nope. 4 callouts is just excessive and shows a serious problem with car or owner.

      • What do they do for a flat tyre?

      • @Brian McGee refering to @cktftw's comment, the driver should probably not be on the road at all.

    • Who asked?

    • +1

I imagine it is more the distances and other extras that make the higher plan worth, less than the actual amount of call outs.

  • +2

    Is this an ongoing deal?

  • +1

how does this compare w ith RACV

  • +2

Pricing is very good. Currently wife has RAA cover here in SA. Might have to switch

  • Can anyone access their website?

    • I was about to ask the same question. Not working for me either.

    • I had to use incognito

    • Can using Bromite on mobile

  • +3

Wonder how long you'd be waiting for a Green Bean to arrive at midnight on a Sunday night….

    • +1

My car broke down on a Friday night at about 5pm and needed a tow. RACV said it would be an 8hr wait. I just got an Uber home and got the tow organized for Tuesday morning (apparently Mondays are crazy too). This was about a month ago.

    • +2

They actually seem to get exceptionally good reviews, don't think that will be a problem.

Awesome key features like 50km Metro and 100km regional towing,5 day car rental,Accomodation and Ambulance which I couldn’t find that cheap for $77 in any other roadside assistance company in Melbourne.
    Done..👍
    Thanks OP

    • Ambulance

The inclusion is very low and would not cover the cost of an ambulance ride.

      • No one should never face a situation where ambulance is required on road…🙏🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽

        • +2

So we should all face a situation where ambulance is required on road?

          I would prefer not to

  • Can i cancel my 24x7 cover bought 10 days ago and get this??

    • +1

      Cooling off period?

      • +1

Just checked. Its just 2 days

        • Did you pay by credit card? Don't quote me on this, but I've been told that anything purchased by credit card must provide a 14 day refund period.

  • Any comparison to AAMI roadside assistance?

    • Anything related to suncorp elicts a strong nauseous response for me, after some interesting experiences.

  • Anyone know if I can schedule a start date or does the plan start effective immediately after payment?

    • Most of them will be available 48 hours after you join. I guess this will be the same

      • Yep, I joined this morning and my cover starts on the 17th.

    • +1

ring 1300550279 You can join and also tell them when you want to start 24/7 plan

      • Awesome thanks, they were able to manually update the start date.

  • +3

careful. That link might have been infected with malware. My malwarebytes blocked it and there are a couple of AVs flagged it as malicious as well on virus total.
    https://www.virustotal.com/gui/url/0b0ad605bd89e730a95bbe9ba…

it could be their website got owned without them knowing.

    • Thanks. About to sign up to this deal. Anyway around minimising risk? Using android browser instead?

    • +2

      False positive most likely…

None of the proper AV's are picking up anything.

  • +2

    How long will they survive?

  • just service your car at MyCar and you will get one year roadside assistance for free.

    • Who is the service provider?

    • +1

Actually got a service there a few weeks ago and have that roadside assistance included apparently, but didn't really read into it, are they any good? Was just going to have roadside on top of that anyway. Have been with RACQ for over 10 years but price is getting ridiculous

  • Much thanks OP, signed up

  • +1

Thanks OP. Just signed up (calling) and asked if I could start when my current one expires (Feb23). They said yes. They were very helpful. I only want it for the higher towing limits. Got my current one for $73 in Feb22 so this was a no brainer for me.

  • anyone have an error when try to pay?
"Internal error. Error persisting business object ShippingAddress String or binary data would be truncated."

    • Yes same issue here

      • I had the same but I got it fixed. Do not use any special character and remove the repeated words from the address.

  • the 5 star seems similar in terms of offering and price with budget direct, im about to sign up with them too
    https://www.budgetdirect.com.au/roadside-assistance-australi…

    $76 online price.

    • +1

Is Budget also giving the following for $76?

      Accommodation Cover
      Limit $700
      ($140/night up to 5 nights)
      Car Hire Cover
      Limit $700
      ($140/day up to 5 days)

      • i dont think they do.

  • +4

Thanks OP. Goodbye $123 RACV renewal.

  • Planning a long trip in Jan and was going to get roadside assistance just in case. This might be a winner!

  • +1

    Is it good for rural?

  • I can't get past the sign-up stage, it keeps telling me I need to set up a different password.

    • +3

I did too. My issue was I had plus symbol in my password. Changed it to something else and it worked..

      • Thank you so much. Comma and full stop didn't work either. I used @ and it worked.

  • Is there a way to join this when you need it?

    • yeah, wait 48 hours after joining

      • +1

I think their average wait time for a call out service is around 48 hours as well so there is no incremental wait

  • What does "Lockouts Up to $70" mean?

    • I think it means the cost for locksmith to unlock your car.

    • I asked 24/7 Roadservices and they said:

'Its only applicable if you lock your keys in the car, we can get a driver out to assist you to gain entry to the vehicle. If you completely lose your keys you will need to contact a locksmith to have the keys replaced which is something we don't cover.'

  • +1

100KM towing in regional areas will not get you very far in many parts of Australia, especially if you have a major mechanical issue and need recovery back to a location with suitable facilities and available resources to perform the repair in a timely manner …

    • Still pretty generous considering what other mainstream auto-club is offering

  • So this is basically tow service insurance. A tow costs maybe 250 if you call around. Paying 44 pa to insure against a 250 event is meh. It's similar value proposition to applecare or a tiny contents insurance policy etc.

    • +3

@echelon6 - I like the way you think. But a bit of correction with the math.

Paying $44 pa to insure against 4 x $250 events. So $1,000, makes it more worth it.

    • +3

Not including evening / early hours towing. More like $400-500 dollars. I shht you not.

  • Just signed up. The website look weird. Under the memberships section, it shows nothing. But under profile section, I can see the membership detail.

  • the payment page is buggy, i enter my CC details in and click process and nothing happens
