Google Pixel Watch Polished Silver Case / Charcoal Active Band, Bluetooth/Wi-Fi Only $448 + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ Harvey Norman

230

Lowest price I've seen outright vs. $549 RRP. Sure there will be some Boxing Day sales across the board, but if anyone wants to pick one up before Christmas - this is a good option.

The Google Pixel Watch (Wi-Fi) has a beautiful circular, domed design and new Wear OS by Google experience.1 Live healthier with sleep, heart rate and activity tracking on Fitbit2 and get things done on the go with Google Assistant, Maps, Wallet, Calendar and Gmail.

Have had mine since release in October, and while not thrilled with the band sizes (I've got big wrists) I've found the watch itself to be great. The small size bothered me at first, but now I literally don't even notice I'm wearing it.

      Concerns for battery life though?

Personally I'm waiting for at least the third generation.

        • +6

          Uh no.

          Battery life is a concern.

          • -3

@scuderiarmani: Battery life is dependant on a variety of factors. Those that complain about battery life in reviews use it differently to what you might, and their expectations on battery life might be different as well. I also expect upcoming updates will help to improve battery life. Each to their own.

@Trishool: Reviewers also often get cherry picked samples of the gear they are reviewing. They are often using it for a minimal time, not experiencing updates, bugs, etc etc that real world users face.

If Reviewers are often saying it doesn't last a day, quite frankly that stinks and it's not fit for purpose.

First gen Google products are very hit and miss.

Yeah and that's why you can't trust their reviews unless they're giving you a long term (1-3) month review. Otherwise they will be using it different to everyone else so their reviews should be taken with a pinch of salt at most.

@Trishool: But battery life is damming.

6 month later reviews on YT are often interesting. Especially in retrospect.

      • We will have a lot more watches to be reluctant about in 2 years time.

      • I've had it for about 2 weeks now,

I just charge it overnight, same time as my phone

Wake up at 100% and go to be around 10 and often it has 40 to 50% left

Need Google store to price match it so I can use my credit

Cheaper at OW as stated above, these will be <$300 soon

They're going to have to start giving them away just to clear inventory before canning Wear OS again.

  • +1

Cheaper at OW and this will pretty soon be even lower like the P7. Just wait for a bit.

Should prove fruitful for WearOS as have spoken to the guy behind KoruLab recently, and he knows his stuff.

  • I would wait till it goes down to ~$350

  • As an Android user, the value proposition for Wear OS watches is just not there vs. the price of Apple Watch and app ecosystem / features.

    • Can you elaborate?

I'm in Apple ecosystem and I would sooo think twice before getting a new Apple Watch. Mine is 4 years old and even though the battery seems fine, Siri has not been usable for the last 2 years and I'm not even trying apps anymore. These days I use it for notifications, payments, silent alarm clock (wibrates on my wrist) and as a stopwatch/timer. These functionalities shouldn't require charging the device daily.

      • I suppose it's dependant on use case. Also maybe Apple's newer watches* just haven't added any sufficiently compelling features? I haven't owned one before so mostly speculating.

I don't ever use voice commands except for car destinations. From what I've read, the sensors / metrics are much more mature on Apple, the syncing with phone is better and there are more better quality apps.

I was trying to find a good podcast app for Wear OS 3 but it seemed like options were pretty limited. My preferred app wasn't supported so I'd have to migrate if I want offline / syncing progress.

I would prefer a better battery life as well. I think the Google Watch is trying to appeal to smaller wrist size but I'd rather have the bulkier watch with better battery life.

I guess I'm probably biased as I still don't see a situation I wouldn't want to carry my phone. Having a backup payment device if my phone dies is nice but that's the only real appeal.

I feel like at the end of the day what I want is to have more time to focus and be disconnected rather that getting the notifications immediately I would have otherwise seen later.

  • Google’s mistake was making this watch too small, size wise it looks like it’s designed for people that are Ectomorphs or Mesomorphs with small wrists. They need at least 2 sizes - 42mm, 45mm or slightly larger. They also need to reduce the large bezels hidden by the Wear OS dark UI. In the past it feels like Wear OS users have just been beta testers or forgotten about update wise depending on the brand of Wear OS device you owned from hardware limitations. Hopefully Google can release a few more updates to iron out all the reported bugs, battery issues, app support and integration issues in the initial reviews of Pixel Watch so those users don’t have an ongoing beta tester experience.

    • Anyone buying a first-gen hardware product from Google is a beta tester (at best). And all Wear OS customers are beta testers, right up until they're dumped.

Honestly, anyone buying this and thinking it's a decent option in the market and that they'll get any kind of ongoing support is being misled.

From a first smart owners perspective both my wife and I have owned this (non LTE) since launch and really love it. I have nothing to compare it too but everything is smooth and works like you expect a pixel product too, and only been a couple of months and already getting software upgrade drops from Google. If you're invested in google home/assistant and Fitbit it's a great seamless integration.

Battery has been no issue - I wear it to sleep and charge it my desk while I work once a day and it takes 30 - 45mins to fully charge, usually with about 30% left when I charge it. Gestures to activate your watch all work flawlessly.

The bezel complaints is a completely non-issue for me - subjective I guess but I think it's the best looking watch on the market hence finally buying a smart watch. I've found most smart watches look too much like… a smart watch.

Spotify integration is great - with no LTE you can download your playlists so easy to go for a run without your phone. If you need to take a call from your watch conversation is clear both ends (Had to on a couple of occasion when phone was on other end of the house).

Biggest gripe is the lack of audio book integration. Would love to listen to books while running without my phone but audible is not available on Wear OS. Google's own audio book service not yet available on Wear OS. Spotify audio books are prohibitively expensive. The only other audiobook service that supports WearOS does not operate in Australia.

    • yeah as weary as i am with first gen google products i gotta say they've done really well with the pixel watch.

Lately I switched from apple eco to pixel. Pixel 7 Pro and this watch from my previous iPhone 11 pro max and apple watch4 44mm.
P7pro is good and don't have much hard feeling switching to android but this watch is $h!t. I cry sometimes how poor this watch is. Slow unresponsiveness and in shower the screen keep switching and messing with menu. Avoid this watch at this generation. Hopefully by gen 3 it would be something to look forward to.

    • The difference in experience between yourself and @Cunning Linguist is amazing.

  • +1

I've owned and used one of these since it's initial release and it's by far the best WearOS watch I've had.

Battery isn't a concern for me as I charge it daily any way, but if I forget to, I'll get two days of use out of it.

  • Used my Google credit from the Pixel 7. Spoke to them on chat and they have sent me an email to respond to once it ships to confirm the refund back to me based on the price match :) Thanks Op!

  • I desperately wanted to want this, due to Fitbit integration and sleek design, but as a long time Fitbit user I couldn't handle such limited battery life. Looks like I'll have to wait a bit longer

  • Previous Garmin user and originally didn't want to get this because of the battery concerns but it really isn't a non issue for me as I just charge it when I go to sleep

Love how seamless it's integrated with my P7P

  • Price back to normal now.
