          • @serpserpserp: Depends on your budget

            ax56u or ax58u if you're just getting started $150-200

            ax86u around $300 up to $400 so gt-ax6000 is a better deal

gt-ax6000 is a newer model to ax86u if your budget is $400

above that you need to think about getting wifi-6e or 7 (ie. axe11000, axe16000) or going for a ax11000 and that's too far above my budget to care I'd rather go enterprise gear or unifi above that

The $149 ASUS RT-AX56U is good value, as its a 4 core and compatible with merlin (if you want to run ad blockers etc on it)

    • +2

AX56U as main router with AX53u as mesh nodes is the perfect setup that won't break the bank

I think I'll upgrade my RT-AC68u to the AX56u as main router

  • I have not found any AC86U or any other Asus AC routers on sale.

Theres asus rt ax86u from amazon for $357.47 but need uk power adaptor to au, looks like cheapest option for asus with gigabit connections. ASUS RT-AX86U 5700 Dual Band + WiFi 6 Gaming Router, PS5 Compatible, upto 2250 sq ft & 35+ devices, NVIDIA GeForce Now, Lifetime Free Internet Security, Mesh WiFi support, 2.5G port gaming port, black https://amzn.asia/d/iSRlYSQ

    • Is the AX56u not sufficient enough for fttp gigabit connection as main router?

      • Not really for full speed

I got about 850mbit on the WAN port as of a few months ago before I switched back to the RSP supplied gigabit router

May have changed with new firmware but I haven't tried skipping straight to GT-AX6000

(Suspect it may be due to shared switching though since it's a budget router)

        • Good enough for me im on a 250/25 plan anyway hah

  • Wavlink wifi 6 ax1800 mesh router is on Amazon for $50

Another option and cheaper, to boot.

  • Cheers OP! 🍻

  • it's back in stock but price goes up back to $89.

  • Bought one around 2pm and it was still $65.

    • Congratulations! :D
      it's OOS again now.

  • Damn , how did I miss this.

    • Thats why you gotta stay up late and not miss out on the bargain bus =)

    • True ozbargainers check every couple of hours. Can't be slack of you miss deals. Lol

  • That much difference between ax1500 and ax1800 when I don’t even have any wifi6 devices?!?

  • Wonder if it will come back in stock

    • Yes back

      • Not quite the $65 price though.
        Retravision has it for $98

  • How good is this trend micro security really?
Can't be protective enough anymore these days with all the scams going around

  • Anyone have issues setting up up their ax53 as an Aimesh node? I reset it, tried hooking it up to Ethernet first, using the supplied cable etc but the app just won’t find the ax53.

    • You will need to update your firmware on both devices first before you reset the ax53u

      • Thanks - firmware is up to date on all my other ASUS devices. Any idea on how to update the firmware on the ax53 if I can’t get the app to recognise it?

        • Unplug your original router.
Plug your new ax53u as the only router connecting with the NBN box.
Connect a computer with the ax53u with an ethernet cable.
Use a browser to login to your ax53u
          Update firmware and reset.

          • @TanedaR: Thanks! Will give it a try - appreciate the support!

            • @Wisered54: Yep you'll need to update firmware first. You can also reset connect to wifi, update firmware then reset and add to aimesh
