Have this exact same model and i tell you what has saved me a couple times so far due to a faulty bluetooth unit causing an ever so slow discharge of my battery. Definitely worth having one even if you think you don't need it. Price is ok i paid $109 for mine about 9 months ago.

I bought one in 2020, got ripped off due to covid shortages etc, but just the other day my dad had a battery drain in his landcruiser, and this enabled him to charge it back up.
very handy to have. I do lots of short trips in my car so I charge mine up every so often.

  • Does it works with lithium battery?

Good charger for motorcycles too. Bought mine almost 4yrs ago for $80 specifically for MC's. I use it on cars as well.

My xms7.0 (7Ahr) is older and still servicing well, it's just not suitable for MC batteries because of the higher charge rate. Was $140 back then, both bought on sale at Repco.

They've risen in cost over the years so grab this if you like the brand.

I also bought quick disconnect leads for the Mc and cars so no more having to open the bonnet or remove the seat to connect the charger. It's hidden and so convenient.

Sure there are cheaper options out there but this is a product worth owning.

Edit: Looks like M8 eyelet leads come with it as standard equipment too.

Good charger that can also charge up those small AGM packs that are used in consumer UPS like Cyberpower if you need to using the MC mode. Worth having this charger, especially if you tend to only go into the office a few times a week and the trips are short. I have one of my cars parked at work at the moment, and when I do go in, I just plug the charger in to top up the car battery.

  • I already have a Repco charger that seems similar. https://www.repco.com.au/en/globes-batteries-electrical/batt…

Would the Ctek do anything different? I'd like to use it on a car in storage.

This one is fool proof too. I was stupid enough to connect it wrongly (positive to negative) to the car battery and luckily it didn’t cause any problems or damages.

    • Charge strategies would be a secret so some subtle differences would be in that, not that it'd matter, for your use case.

No, both will do the job you ask of it.

If you want to see the charging strategy get yourself a BM2. It's a Bluetooth battery monitor. I have one on a car I drive infrequently. It's interesting to watch what the charger is doing. Can data log a graph upto 2 weeks.

  • Do you need to disconnect the battery (from the car) in order to charge with this?

      no

the coincidence! yesterday pretty sure completely discharged my Koleos battery.
CTEK stayed on check - couldn't charge as no voltage i guess
Hooked it up to another battery for half hour to get something and fingers crossed whilst googling for a new battery thinking stupid waste $250+.
Luckily the CTEK detected some voltage and 15 hours later battery is full.
    Paid for iteself 2.5x

Unfortunately when you discharge a lead acid battery it also destroys the battery - so bear in mind your now-charged battery won't have a lot of life left in it !
You might get away with it if it only happens once…

      • ah I see. so essentially risky driving around with kids might not start
is there a way know if its damaged?
almost 3 years old so prob time replacement anyways.

        • You can usually tell when it's on the way out simply by the slower starter motor spin.

Pay attention to your start - when it's fast and quick, all is well.
A dying battery is often noticeably slower at turning the engine over.

But sometimes everything can be fine, and then a frosty morning arrives and the battery gives up.

  • A cheap option that'd probably still get the job done. https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-sat-31-…

    • Can anyone comment as to how this compares to the one OP posted? Thanks.

I wouldn't trust that, not on vehicles valued at $500, let alone 10's of 1000's of dollars.

I get it, it's cheap, but look at what you'd be connecting it to…

        • Thank you.

      • It'll be fine if you only need to charge a UPS or motorcycle battery.

        See my other post below…

      • I have this for 3+ years and have used it to charge a number of old (3+yrs and up) car batteries with no issue. Most were just top-ups but there were a few occasions where the batteries went completely flat in the car (due to lack of use of the car). Nice thing about the aldi one is that it comes with a LCD screen that shows you the actual voltage of the battery and a capacity gauge (so you get an idea on how long the charge cycle will take). as Nom said above, generally a damaged battery cannot be restored to health by just charging it with a charger like this (or the Ctek). The Ctek claims to have a highly effective reconditioning mode but I highly doubt it can work magic to restore a bad battery back to "as new" condition.

TLDR; if you just need a charger to keep the battery of a rarely used car full (and hence prolong its life), the aldi one will do the job. if you are looking for a charger that can restore/recondition a bad battery to "as new" condition, don't bother.

        • Thanks for the detailed response, mate. Appreciate it.

        • Are there any type of chargers that can restore/recondition a bad battery to a good condition?

          • @nudy: No.

There are chargers that have a recondition mode, which might get your battery working again.

    • Battery types – 12V: 1.2Ah- 20Ah

      My small car has a 60Ah battery…

    • the Aldi one charges maximum 20Ah batteries

    OK thanks.
